Adding a Southeast destination for designer toy makers and collectors, *Assembly Required brings designer, bootleg and art toy artists from around the country, to present and sell their work.
Asheville’s premiere designer toy expo, *Assembly Required, is presented by Unboxing Asheville, Morgan’s Comic’s, 103.3 Asheville FM and Appalachian Pinball Museum. Focusing on this artistic movement, designer toys are a form of lowbrow pop art. These toy makers pull inspiration from a variety of subversive segments of culture, as well as subcultural elements, including (but not limited to) comics, tattooing, street art, and everything related to toys of the 60’s through the 80’s.
Echoing production methods of traditional toy manufacturers, designer toys are usually intended to be displayed as collectibles, rather than to be played with. Toy makers mediums range from resin to vinyl, from plastic to plush; with molding, and production techniques such as kitbash, sofubi and bootleg (recently coined ‘Artisanal Action Figure’, by New York Times writer, Rich Juzwiak [11/23/18]). Juzwiak interviews such artists as the Sucklord and Killer Bootlegs, both of whom will be present at *Assembly Required.

This Sunday the half marathon training group will meet at Bent Creek Hard Times Trailhead for a long run. We meet at 8:30am sharp… so arrive early if possible so that people on a time schedule can meet their following commitments. We’ll have all level of pace groups, so don’t worry what speed you run…Danny with Chi Running guarantees that you won’t be running alone.

The Asheville Marathon Training will begin on Sunday, October 28th! It isn’t too late to join in on the training group and program.

Sunday, March 10, the Brevard High School Shooting Team will be working with Mama Bear’s Food Truck and also selling baked goods at the Forks of the River Taproom for a benefit. The Asheville Wing War is the most entertaining and exciting way to discover the best restaurants and chefs in our community. Our national event production company pits restaurant vs restaurant in a head to head competition and you get to be the judge!
A production of All American Food Fights, the Asheville Wing War has become one of the area’s most notable and exciting food events. On March 10 from 1-5pm, up to fifteen restaurants will prepare spicy traditional wings or specialty wings of a variety of flavors and serve them up piping hot with a side of live music and ice cold beer.

Want to learn about Girl Scouting? Please join the Girl Scouts of western North Carolina + Asheville Outlets (AshevilleOutlets.com) Sunday, March 10th from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. for the 2019 Girl Scout Week Kickoff event. Activities will include learning how to tie knots, how to market apparel & footwear items, prepare food and develop outdoor skills, and more! Plus, an on-site Girl Scout Shop, games, crafts, a display of Girl Scout uniforms from the last 70 years and a celebration of birthday cake at 3:00 p.m. Girl Scouts, community members, including prospective Girl Scout families, are all invited to attend. The event is free and open to the public.
Girl Scouts is open to girls ages 5-18 in grades kindergarten through 12th grade. Western North Carolina is home to over 100 Girl Scout troops and is part of the Girl Scouts Carolinas Peaks to Piedmont council. Chalwa is based out of Asheville, NC and plays original High Country Reggae. The band consists of a diverse all-star line-up of local musicians from bands such as the Asheville Horns, Hope Massive, Josh Phillips Folk Festival, Biodesiel, and the Everydays. Ever since they hit the scene in 2006, Chalwa has toured throughout the southeast US and Jamaica. The band has shared the stage with reggae greats such as Midnite, Groundation, The Meditations, Bambu Station, SOJA, Pato Banton, and many more.
