Tonight! The Get Right Band featuring Opal Strings in Asheville
Jun 2 @ 8:00 pm – 10:30 pm
Ambrose West

You are cordially invited to an intimate evening with The Get Right Band featuring Opal Strings.

WHEN: Sunday June 2nd, 2019
WHERE: Ambrose West 312 Haywood Road Asheville, NC 28806
GENRE: Indie-rock / classical
TICKETS: Advance $10 / Day of Show $12 / VIP 1st 3 Rows $15
DOORS: 7pm
SHOW: 8pm
SEATING: Seated Show
AGES: All

The sound of The Get Right Band featuring Opal Strings is unlike anything you’ve heard. Let’s start with the instrumentation–violin, viola, cello, electric guitar, electric bass, drum set, and vocals. Let’s talk about genres–indie rock, classical, funk, reggae, Americana, psychedelia, soul, jam, spoken word poetry, and probably a few other things we’re forgetting about. The songs–raw, personal, global, witty, dark, uplifting. There’s probably something in there for you.

The Get Right Band is a psychedelic indie rock power trio from Asheville, NC. The band is built on the musical brotherhood that guitarist/vocalist Silas Durocher and bassist Jesse Gentry have formed playing music together since middle school. Durocher, who is a trained composer and has been commissioned to write for symphonies and chamber groups, has guitar chops that can soothe or rage and a charismatic swagger as a frontman and a singer. “Durocher has an impressive range and rich clarity to his vocals—think a more soulful Dan Auerbach” (Connect Savannah). Gentry’s virtuosic bass playing “catapults from elastic to nasty” (The Mountain Xpress). With the addition of Jian-Claude Mears, a drummer with “precision, passion, and an inescapable momentum” (Live For Live Music), the group’s sound has become an unstoppable force.

Opal Strings are known for their polished precision and fiery intensity. They are dedicated to bringing the art of chamber music to the people by performing in all kinds of venues, from schools, bars, and art galleries, to street corners and concert halls. Their members have performed with the Asheville, Greenville, and Charlotte Symphonies, Free Planet Radio, and Sirius.B.

The Get Right Band brings a danceable groove to the material and the emotive strings bring a sweetness and a depth–and then sometimes they switch roles. On one song the ensemble might lean into the gentle melancholy of nostalgic love and on another they might dive into a funky, dissonant world of musical exploration. You will hear an endless blending of genres and you will hear genreless music. You will hear intricate compositions, improvisation, poetry, beauty, pain, healing, and everything in between.

Come with open ears and open hearts.

New Works by Amy Massey Opening Exhibit
Jun 3 @ 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm
Wedge at Foundation

Join us for the opening exhibit introducing our June artist of the month, Amy Massey.

Amy Massey is a visual artist and bodyworker living in Asheville, NC. She grew up in Pittsburgh, PA and received a BFA from Columbus College of Art & Design. The allusive dynamic of human relationships and the energetic healing nature she has come to know through her work as a massage therapist are prominent themes explored throughout her paintings. All of these works are created with the intention of tapping into a space that feels nurturing and sacred. The work presented in this exhibition will be a play between two main bodies of work.

The first, Dimensions of Intimacy, is a series of surreal, dreamlike landscapes interwoven with an intricate layering of geometric patterning, done in acrylic on canvas. These paintings evolved from an integration of experiences both lived and dreamed, each image holding a reflection of a place that is both physical and emotional in nature. The goal of this body of work is to explore the sensations we glean from different environments, and to explore the symbolism of space in terms of the relationships we develop with ourselves, others, and the world around us.

The second series, Portals and Passages, consists of looser abstractions of delicate, ethereal vignettes, done in gouache on watercolor paper. The inspiration for these works is subtle and energetic in nature, and comes from a deep source of intuitive seeing. The resulting images are like portals, welcoming the viewer to draw inward and rest within their vibrant, meditative essence. They serve as a doorway for those seeking the unseen, looking for that unshakable interconnectedness of all things.

Bardic Alchemy at Triskelion
Jun 4 @ 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm
Triskelion Brewing Company

We’ve been talking to the folks from Bardic Alchemy, a Celtic Rock band from Asheville and they’ve agreed to play at Triskelion as many Tuesdays as they can come down to the Brewery.

Bardic Alchemy is a brand new element in the Celtic Rock world. This trio, based in the mountains of Asheville, North Carolina is comprised of multi-instrumentalist Connell Sanderson, guitarist Nick Marcone and percussionist and vocalist Tyler Watts.

Bardic Alchemy is best described as a psychedelic trip into a musical world that is heavily inspired by the Celtic musical traditions…run through various effects pedals. Everything from soothing, mellifluously reverberating whistle melodies supported by groovy guitar lines and thumping djembe beats to high energy dance tunes on the Scottish and Irish pipes to three part vocal harmonies and even improvised pieces, Bardic Alchemy is a surprisingly dynamic and unpredictable musical journey.

So… Tuesdays… will now be…

Celtic Rock Tuesday!
