? Instructor Sharon Saltzgiver is a dancer, choreographer, and performer. She debuted as a tapping kangaroo at 4 and later earned a dance minor at Bates College. Selected to perform a solo at an ACDF Gala performance, she was also picked as a member of the African Dance Company while studying at the Amercian Dance Festival at Duke University. Sharon performed at venues around Boston’s North Shore with Exit Dance Company and Greg Cole’s African Dance and Drums.
In her own words:
“I dance because it is the language of my soul and my spirit’s power source. Dance is a wellspring of vitality and health, a primal connector of mind, body and spirit through the fusion of music and movement. It’s not about putting someone else’s moves on your body but exploring how your body is asking to express its voice through the choreography.
Through dance you practice authenticity of movement so your physical presence embodies your true spirit. You enter a room truly expressing your essential being and power and divine grace. “

The newest album from North Carolina roots songwriter Andy Ferrell, At Home and In Nashville, is aptly named, for it points to a long lineage of artists traveling between their homes in rural Appalachia and the neon lights of country music’s capital, Nashville, Tennessee. Born in Boone, NC, Ferrell grew up in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains, the birthplace of Appalachian traditional music and the home of the great Doc Watson. Growing up in Watson’s shadow, and with a folk guitarist for a father, Appalachian roots play a large role in Ferrells surprising about his new album is how far he has reached beyond these roots. On this album he focuses on country songwriting with a bittersweet edge, much like his heroes Hank Williams and Twnes Van Zandt. Recording the album between Nashville and Boone, he blends old-time roots and folk songwriting with a more polished country sound that verges at times on Paul Simon-esque balladry. Sweet pedal steel rings through his sound, mixed in with rich vocal harmonies and songs that look to the hard truths of a working man’s life as much as to the vagaries of love.

Yacht Rock Revue
Show: 9pm
Doors: 8pm
$15 – $18
Ages 18+
Tickets & Info: www.theorangepeel.net/event/yacht-rock-revue-3/
The Yacht Rock Revue is everything the late ‘70s and early ‘80s should’ve been: massive sing-along soft rock hits, tight bell-bottom jeans, impeccable musicianship, polyester shirts, glorious vocal harmonies, sunglasses at night, breezy dancing and sax … lots of sax. “They’re a trip down memory lane that skips all the bad neighborhoods,” according to Robbie Dupree. It’s pure Escape (The Piña Colada Song.)
From Hall & Oates, Kenny Loggins and Michael Jackson to one-hit wonders like “Brandy” and “Baby Come Back,” YRR brings stadium rock energy to the music you love from your dentist’s office. Hundreds of songs – many of which would be the original artist’s encore – keep audiences guessing what’s next. But they know every word, and Toto’s “Africa” has never sounded so good.
The Yacht Rock Revue has defined and popularized a genre that was a fringe guilty pleasure when the group played its first show as a basement bar band in 2007. Fast forward to 2018 and it’s just like quinoa – a few years ago nobody knew about it but now all the girls love it. Yacht Rock has a dedicated SiriusXM channel and YRR sold out Atlanta’s 6,500-seat Chastain Park Amphitheatre. A national tour partnership with Live Nation and the SiriusXM Yacht Rock Channel has the Yacht Rock Revue primed to reach a record number of soccer moms in 2019.
YRR has gone far beyond the “tribute” category by regularly joining their heroes on stage: John Oates, Eddie Money, Little River Band, Pablo Cruise, Gary Wright, Robbie Dupree, Matthew Wilder, Elliot Lurie of Looking Glass, Juice Newton, Ambrosia, Starship, Bobby Kimball of Toto, Player, Jeff Carlisi of .38 Special, Steve Augeri of Journey, Al Stewart, Albert Bouchard of Blue Oyster Cult, Rick Derringer, Walter Egan, Bill Champlin of Chicago and Denny Laine of Wings have all played their hits with YRR.
Yacht Rock Revue has set sail on music cruises (of course) with Train, Weezer, Kid Rock, Kiss, Heart and the Zac Brown Band. From the Playboy Mansion to the NCAA Final Four, Santorini to Costa Rica, Cabo San Lucas to London – these guys are the captains of smooth, internationally.
YRR has won accolades ranging from “Best Place to Get Drunk With Your Dad” to “Best Overall Music Act in Atlanta” to “Best Place to Start an Extramarital Affair,” and has been name-dropped by the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Pitchfork, the Guardian UK, Spin, TimeOut New York, Billboard, MTV.com, and (probably) your mom at her last cocktail party.
Yacht Rock Revue Feature in Atlanta Magazine
“Yacht Rock Revue has created a musical movement that has spread across America. They’re exemplary musicians who really know their stuff… I mean, they really know our stuff.” – Robbie Dupree
“I thought they were kind of goofing on that music and that era. But as it turns out, they’re actually really passionate about it and they do it very seriously. And they turned out to be great guys.” – John Oates
“I’ve had more bras thrown at me at Yacht Rock Revue shows than usual. And that’s a lot.” – Peter Beckett of Player

The annual One Lap of The Mountains will be held on Friday, June 7. This exhilarating driving adventure is a technical rally as opposed to a timed rally, designed to give drivers a chance to enjoy the scenery while staying together as a group. Event organizers plan a different course every year on roads chosen to provide the ultimate mountain driving experience.
One Lap of the Mountains VII is scheduled to roll on Friday morning. You are invited to join the fun as forty lucky drivers, with their passengers, drive beautiful mountain “less traveled” roads and experience the comradery the One Lappers from past years have enjoyed. One Lap of the Mountains will begin on Pine Street in Kelsey-Hutchinson Park, also site of the Saturday event, Cars in the Park.
A complementary continental breakfast will be available to all participants beginning at 7:30 AM. Because of the logistics involving rest room stops, sight-seeing stops and restaurant seating, we will depart in two groups of twenty-five cars each. The first cars will depart K-H Park at 8:30 AM sharp and the second group at 9:00 AM sharp. Pre-register if you plan to participate as One Lap has become so popular it fills up quickly. Please designate your preference as to the 8:30 AM or 9:00 AM departure. We will do our best to accommodate your wishes, but spots will be assigned on a first come first serve basis. One Lap of the Mountains 2019 will be capped at 50 cars.
The first driver’s meeting will begin at 8:00 AM sharp for Group #1 and at 8:30 AM sharp for Group #2. Each driver and one passenger will receive a HMF hat. Drivers will also receive a 2019 HMF poster. Instructions for the day and detailed drivers log will be handed out and covered in the driver’s meetings.
One Lap of the Mountains 2019 registration is $150.00 per car and includes the driver an one passenger. The charge for each additional passenger is $25.00 which includes a HMF hat. The continental breakfast is included in the registration price, but participants pay for their own lunch.
Awarding of points to those One Lap participants who also show their driven car on Saturday was a big success last year and will be continued in 2019. All “interesting” cars are invited to participate in the One Lap, but please be advised that we will be navigating very mountainous and curvy roads. Make sure your choice of wheels is up to the task!
This year’s route will encompass an approximate total of 150 miles of the back roads of western North Carolina. There will be an organized lunch along the route where you can order from a menu. If all stays on schedule, we should return to Highlands no later than 4:00 PM, and in plenty of time to rest up and prepare for the Friday night Welcome Party and Parade at The High Dive Tavern.
