Our greatest need is for advocates who provide emotional support on our 24/7 crisis line and offer hospital accompaniment to survivors of recent assaults. Take crisis line calls during assigned shifts
Assist callers in crisis and provide clients with appropriate referrals to Our Voice services or other community agencies.
Go to the hospital with survivors after a sexual assault
Respond to hospital accompaniment calls within 30 minutes and provide all survivors of sexual assault information regarding options and procedures.
Take a minimum of 2 shifts each month
Volunteers will be able to sign up for shifts through the schedule on our online portal. Shifts are weekdays 5pm-8am and weekends/holidays 8am-8pm or 8pm-8am.
Participate in continued education at least once a year
Continued education trainings will be offered twice a year and advertised through email and our online portal.
Complete a 20 hour advocate training prior to taking shifts
This training is a requirement in order to maintain advocate privilege. We ask volunteers to commit to a minimum of 6 months on the crisis line following training.
Bring your laptops and fully-charged cellphones for this in-person phone bank session! We will be making calls to increase voter participation throughout Buncombe County during these regularly scheduled phone banks on Monday evenings and Tuesday mornings.
If you don’t have a laptop, we have several at HQ, so just be sure to bring your email login information so we can get you started. If you already have an Action ID User ID & password, bring those as well. (If you don’t have one, we’ll help you get set up with one after you arrive.)
After making calls at HQ, you’ll be encouraged to continue making calls from the comfort of your home afterwards.
We will have plenty of refreshments on hand, and we hope you’ll keep coming back, because this phone banking community is growing and having lots of fun!

Join us for weekly workdays in the Sand Hill native tree nursery. Tasks vary and often include repotting, weeding, mulching, and other special projects to improve infrastructure and function.

Come on by for night of spoken word presented by Dark City Poets Society at Oak and Grist Distilling Company. Everyone is welcome to share a few poems or just sit back and drink for a good cause.
The event is free and $1 from every classic cocktail will be donated to Friends of the Black Mountain Library.

This free community fundraiser, open to the public, will be hosted by Mosaic Realty, with each gallery highlighting a different local nonprofit. Democrats need to be more actively messaging and to overcome the makers of fake news with the truth! Join this ongoing group of writers working together on Letters to the Editor and Opinion Editorials. We’ll discuss the issues we care about most deeply and craft a plan to respond to events as they occur in real time. The group meets every other Monday for writing, responding to one another’s work, scheduling submissions and exploring media outlets across the state.

Bring your laptops and fully-charged cellphones for this in-person phone bank session! We will be making calls to increase voter participation throughout Buncombe County during these regularly scheduled phone banks on Monday evenings and Tuesday mornings.
If you don’t have a laptop, we have several at HQ, so just be sure to bring your email login information so we can get you started. If you already have an Action ID User ID & password, bring those as well. (If you don’t have one, we’ll help you get set up with one after you arrive.)
After making calls at HQ, you’ll be encouraged to continue making calls from the comfort of your home afterwards.

The 90-minute show will be filled with Barbie’s poetry, ranging from pieces from her children’s book, Roasting Questions, to adult material she seldom performs. Also included, excerpts from her autobiographical play, Death By Sparkle: Or, What Happens When You Drink Window Cleaner, and monologues from her inappropriately hilarious alter ego, Princess Kratilda.

We’re excited to be approaching this year’s GRINDfest: the celebration of BIPOC business and entrepreneurship. It’s going to be bigger than ever!!!
This event is an annual effort to bridge economic gaps so that local BIPOC folks can serve as many customers as possible. Together, we collaborate to support various makers, producers, artists, businesses, and entrepreneurs that work very hard all year to prepare to serve festival attendees.
