For 45 years, this free event has brought the joys of the season to visitors of all ages and will continue the tradition this year with even more exciting activities such as a children’s craft and play area, entertainment throughout the week, photos with Santa Claus and, of course, the exquisitely decorated Christmas trees and wreaths that will be available for purchase.

The festivities will officially kickoff with Candy Canes & Cocktails Preview Party and Silent Auction Tuesday, November 20 at 6 p.m. Attendees will have the opportunity to purchase silent auction items, beautifully decorated wreaths, and swags, and bid on their favorite Christmas trees. This spectacular event is sure to be a night of fun and festivities with plenty of hors-d’oeuvres and signature cocktails.

Breakfast with Santa will be returning this year on Saturday, November 24 at 8:30 a.m. and another session at 9:15 a.m. With a friendly visit from Santa, delicious pancakes, and fun activities, this event is sure to be a wonderful family-friendly occasion. Breakfast is $15 for adults and children.

When reflecting on the current state of the environment, it seems that we have entered into times of seismic sorrows. Carbon emissions, water pollution, fracking, and changing climate patterns all point to a troubling reality with serious consequences for human and non-human populations. Through weavings, installations, sculpture, and print, artists Rena Detrixhe and Tali Weinberg (Tulsa, OK) explore the complex relationship between humans and the planet, offering insights, expressing grief, and creating space for resilience and change.

In Time of Seismic Sorrows is curated by Marilyn Zapf and organized by the Center for Craft. The Center for Craft is supported in part by the N.C. Arts Council, a division of the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources.

Avoid the Black Friday crowd, and enjoy some fresh air at the WNC Nature Center! Featuring 60 species of wildlife native to the Appalachian ecosystem, several engaging children’s play areas, a gem mining sluice, domestic livestock petting area, conservation gift shop, and much more!

We will be presenting three live animal education programs (11:30am, 1:30pm & 3:30pm). And we will host two free family-friendly wildlife walks (12:30pm & 2:30pm) on the Center’s grounds: pre-registration required at the Front Desk upon arrival.

Inspired by REI’s #optoutside campaign where they are closing their stores on Black Friday AND paying their employees to take the day off, I am offering Green Friday and Green Saturday forest bathing sessions. This is the time of year when self care is really important. Forest Bathing is the perfect addition to your self care routine.

You will awaken your senses and connect with nature as I guide you in a forest bathing session. Known in Japan as Shinrin Yoku, we will spend 2.5 hours immersed in nature, reawakening our senses, and disconnecting from our busy minds and lives. You will have a chance to slow down and deeply connect with the forest, yourself, and others. We will end our walk with a tea ceremony using foraged plants from our walk, and some delicious snacks. The Haen Gallery, located in downtown Asheville, North Carolina, is proud to present their 12th Annual Lynn Boggess Exhibition. The exhibit will run through November.

Lynn Boggess is one of the most unique and noteworthy American landscape painters of the 21st Century. He resides in West Virginia, a state whose diverse mountains, forests, and rivers provide abundant inspiration for the artist’s plein air paintings. In place of brushes he uses palette knives and trowels to thickly layer the broad sweeping strokes and exquisite fine detail that capture all the colors of the seasons in rushing rivers, snow covered hillsides, and thick forest vegetation. Mr. Boggess’ work is recognized internationally for its incredible three-dimensional texture, rendered solely in oils. These remarkable paintings combine elements of Abstract Expressionism and Photorealism to create a style that is totally unique and original.
