We are currently looking for help in the Box Office and Front of House. The hours of operation are Mon-Thurs, 10 AM-4 PM. Let us know if you’d be interested!

WNCSource’s Bargain Hendo Thrift Store closing sale

Bargain Hendo Thrift Store

Bargain Hendo Thrift Store will be permanently closing its doors on December 13th.
• WNCSource operates the small thrift store which is located on the corner of King Street
and 2nd Avenue in Hendersonville.
• Bargain Hendo first opened in December of 2020 and was meant to support the programs
and services WNCSource provides in 4 western North Carolina Counties. Unfortunately,
low sales and competition from other local thrift stores has made the store less than
profitable.
• But don’t worry, starting Thursday, November 2nd, Bargain Hendo will be open
Wednesdays through Fridays 10AM to 4PM and Saturdays from 10AM to 2PM with some
incredible bargains and sales to clear the shelves.
• Bargain Hendo’s last day is December 13th

Old Farmer’s Ball Needs Volunteers

We love contra dance, and nobody gets paid for making the dances happen. We all just pitch in. You can too. Here’s how it works:

  • Help us OPEN or CLOSE, and dance for free all night long! It only takes 30 minutes to an hour.
  • Help us at the DOOR, and dance for free half the night AND another whole night!

ALSO – if you want to volunteer on a regular basis, e.g. work the early door every 3rd Thursday, tell us and we’ll set that up!

The Volunteer page on the OFB website has a convenient, easy-to-use sign-up form for each of our dances.

Kayla Birstein is our volunteer coordinator. If you have questions or ideas about volunteering, contact info is on the Volunteer page.

Volunteer Opportunities

Early Host: Arrive by 7:15, greet the sound tech, band, and caller. Get into the safe, take out the starter money, count and fill out pay-out sheet. And advise/supervise volunteers.

Openers (3 people needed): Early Arrive by 7:15 pm, check in with Early Host, sweep the hall, set up chairs, make sure the bathrooms are clean and stocked.

Early Door Person (2 people needed): Arrive by 7:30 check, in with Early Host, work when needed to take money at the door. Alternate with your other door people and Early host to switch off who sits and who dances. Goes ’til 9:00pm.

Closers (3 people needed): Job time: 10 minutes. Break down the hall, put away chairs, tables, sweep the floors, empty and take out trash. Check in with the Late Host to make sure everything is done

Late Host: Arrive by 9:30, check-in with Early Host, the pay-out form should be filled out. Dancers should pay full price until first contra after the waltz break. Count the money, do the payout, supervise breakdown and close the hall.

26th Voorhees Family Art Show and Sale

This weekend art show and sale is free and open to the public. This year’s annual
event will feature new art work created by five Voorhees family members along with two guest artists.
The event will again be featured in a family home, this year at Susan Voorhees’ house. Meet this
extraordinary family of artists known throughout North Carolina and the Southeast.
The 26th event will feature an art raffle benefiting Asheville Art Supplies For Kids a local non-profit.

The arts legacy began with Edwin Voorhees, (1919-1999) and Mildred Voorhees (1924-2007) both
accomplished painters and well known throughout NC for their artwork. The first Voorhees Family Art
Show was held in the family home in Morehead City in 1998. Edwin passed away the next year but the
Voorhees Family Art Show continued in Morehead for several years. With Mildred’s move to Asheville
the show followed with it being hosted in one of several Voorhees family homes in North Asheville
ever since. The Voorhees Family was recognized with an exhibition “Nature & Nurture: The Voorhees
Family Artistic Legacy” at the NC Arboretum during the summer of 2022.
This year’s show celebrates the 26th show for the Voorhees Family and continues the legacy begun by
Edwin Voorhees back in 1998. Three of Edwin and Mildred’s six children a daughter-in-law, and
David’s son-in-law will be showing their work at this event: Susan Voorhees, oil and pastel paintings;
Jane Voorhees, watercolors, prints, cards and calendars; David Voorhees, wood-fired stoneware and

porcelain pottery; David’s wife, Molly Sharp Voorhees, sterling silver and gold jewelry. David’s son-in-
law, James Becker with resin art creations. Also exhibiting are guest artists Cheryl Stippich, stained

glass and polymer clay, and Chad Alice Hagen, felted art and handmade books. For more information

Led by professional trainer Barrie Barton, this workshop leads you through Map Your Year, a step-by-step approach to plan the year ahead. To receive the greatest benefit from this 1.5-hr. workshop, we encourage all 3 officers and key volunteers from your precinct to attend. By the end of this workshop, your precinct team will leave with goals, strategies and actions to make 2024 a successful year.

BRING YOUR LAPTOP (if you have one) and your cell phone, and we’ll show you how to make calls to reach people who tend to vote for Democrats, but not often enough! Whether you are an experienced, reluctant, or new and curious phone banker, this training will prepare you for making calls at our headquarters, and later from the comfort of your own home.

Snacks, drinks, and lots of camaraderie on hand!

Who should attend: Democrats or left-leaning unaffiliated voters who are willing to make phone calls to make a difference in 2024.
