In Times of Seismic Sorrows
Jan 8 @ 10:00 am – 6:00 pm

Through weavings, installations, sculpture, and print, artists Rena Detrixhe and Tali Weinberg (Tulsa, OK) explore the complex relationship between humans and the planet, offering insights, expressing grief, and creating space for resilience and change.

In Time of Seismic Sorrows is curated by Marilyn Zapf and organized by the Center for Craft. The Center for Craft is supported in part by the N.C. Arts Council, a division of the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources.

Vinyasa Flow with Tara (Becky) Eschenroeder
Jan 8 @ 11:00 am – 12:15 pm
West Asheville Yoga Studio

From a primal flow to a gentle meditative dance, our internal compass guides us as we connect with our own internal rhythms and sense of knowing.

Tara (Becky) will take you on a journey of the senses. While drinking in the sacred sounds of heart beat and breath, we take the ability to listen and to feel even deeper within. We
tap into that intuitive sense of knowing; how and when to move and when to be still. Allow yourself to reconnect to that sacred animal within, ultimately reminding us how to simply be both on and off of the yoga mat.

Tom Wolfe (1930-2018) was one of the founders of the New Journalism movement and the author of such contemporary classics as The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test and The Right Stuff, as well as the novel The Bonfire of the Vanities. As a reporter, he wrote articles for The Washington Post, the New York Herald Tribune, Esquire, and New York magazine, and is credited with coining the term “The Me Decade.” Among his many honors, Wolfe was awarded the National Book Award, the John Dos Passos Award, the Washington Irving Medal for Literary Excellence, the National Humanities Medal, and the National Book Foundation Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters.

In The Painted Word, Wolfe trains his satirical eye on contemporary art with a dazzling and keen wit. He addresses the scope of contemporary art from Abstract Expressionism through Pop, Op, Minimal, and Conceptual Art. The Painted Word is Tom Wolfe “at his most clever, amusing, and irreverent” (San Francisco Chronicle). Moderated by Tim Lewis.
