Read Southall Band
Jan 18 @ 8:00 pm
The Grey Eagle

In 2015, the local songwriting scene of Stillwater, OK brought together four like-minded individuals from completely different background who wanted nothing more than to play music. Read Southall became the talk of Oklahoma after the release of his acoustic album “Six String Sorrow” in 2015 that accumulated 8 million streams in just 3 years. In 2016, Read Southall decided that a group effort was the way to proceed with his fellow band mates and the Read Southall Band officially came to light. They released “Borrowed Time” in the spring of 2017 which featured singles like “Don’t Tell Me” and “Why”, which made it inside the Top 10 on several streaming charts.

The Read Southall Band began to tour full time in 2018, leading to the release of “Live at Tower Theatre” in December.

2019 is set to be a huge year for the Oklahoma rock ’n’ roll quartet as they tour all over the USA with several acts like Whiskey Myers and Koe Wetzel.

Jan 20 @ 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm
The Chop Shop Butchery

What ingredients go into making sausage? How do you grind, mix, and stuff a sausage by hand? What’s the difference between an Italian sausage and a bratwurst?

Learn about these topics and more in one of our most popular classes: DIY Sausage & Beer!

WHAT TO EXPECT

  • MIX & MINGLE: Before the sausage-making begins, we’ll give you an overview of the process while you sample local and house-made charcuterie and sip on beer from local brewery, Eurisko, or a glass of wine. You’ll also get to mingle and chat with other students in the class.
  • MIX, GRIND & STUFF: Next, we’ll head into our cut room. (Dress warmly! It’s chilly in there!) You’ll learn about the ingredients and spices that go into different kinds of sausages. Then, our butchers will show you how to mix, grind, and stuff sausages. This is a hands-on class and you’ll get to make your own sausages from start to finish.
  • LEARN: During the class, we’ll explain how to cook sausages and pair them with other foods and beverages. Questions are not only welcome, but encouraged!
  • TAKE IT HOME: Take home the sausage you make
  • DISCOUNT: Bring a cooler! You’ll receive 10% off any purchases after class! (excluding alcohol)

Where does our pork come from?

We source our pork from three local, North Carolina farms: Warren Wilson College Farm, Hickory Nut Gap (Fairview) and Colfax Creek Farm.

FEATURING: A monthly listening party celebrating significant albums in their entirety, with this 3rd installment to feature “Vs.”, the first full-length release by the Boston band Mission of Burma, released in 1982. Self-described as a caterwauling band who looked like they worked in the post office, Mission of Burma toiled in obscurity, often playing to skeptical or even hostile audiences, and soon broke up and disappeared in 1983. Their farewell tour was documented on record and on film, but “Vs.” remains the creative apex of an extremely bright and burning career arc. Generations of subsequent bands to come have admired Mission of Burma for their textured aesthetic, oblique lyrics, expressive dynamics, and experimental live tape loop composition, all of which are on display on this uncategorizable masterpiece.

Presented by Dr. Toby King, who holds a B.A. from Amherst College, an M.S. in Geology from the University of Montana – Missoula, and an M.A., M. Phil., and Ph.D. in Music from Columbia University in New York City. He wrote his dissertation on improvisatory bluegrass music performance and is currently writing about bluegrass performance practice in Japan. He has directed ensemble classes performing musical traditions from Appalachia, West Africa, and Bali. He has taught classes examining the relationship of music with language, social identity, modernism, cosmopolitanism, orientalism, and political power, and he plays the 5-string banjo.

Refreshments will be available from Session Bar and Café who will offer the full bar menu, tea and drip-coffee service, as well as small bites from the kitchen: bagged chips and the deli case offerings.

Tall Heights
Jan 20 @ 8:30 pm
The Grey Eagle

The third full-length from Tall Heights, Juniors emerged from a period of profound turmoil and revelation for the Massachusetts duo. In the span of five months, Paul Wright and Tim Harrington experienced a convergence of events that included major health and substance-abuse crises among their closest loved ones, saying goodbye to Harrington’s grandfather and to a beloved grandfather figure for Wright, and—in far happier, yet still intense news—the announcement that each of their wives was expecting. Compounded by a series of shake-ups in their professional life, that upheaval coincided with the start of the pandemic. Rather than succumbing to the tremendous pressure of that point in time, Tall Heights chose to confront the chaos by creating within it. The result: an album that precisely channels the pain, uncertainty, and unbridled joy of its inception.
