Jordan Scheffer Featuring Kinobe
Jordan Scheffer is an accomplished vocalist, percussionist, pianist and writer. She was born blind and developed a deep love for music at an early age, combining American Roots, West African and Afro-Caribbean-Funk rhythms and instruments into a unique vocal and musical style. Her singular singing style has led her to work and record with some of the most renowned names in the African music scene.
At the age of 18, she won the Blind Idol talent competition in Raleigh with contestants of all ages from around the US. In 2018, Jordan was invited to sing at the famed Apollo Theater in Harlem. She then was asked back to compete at the Amateur Night at the Apollo Competition, placing 2nd. Jordan was a featured singer at LEAF, Asheville, in the fall of 2021. and her new album, “Until We Try”, was released in October of 2021
Jordan attended the prestigious Perkins School for the Blind in Boston and is currently a student at UNC-Asheville where she performs with the UNCA Afro-Percussion Ensemble. She is a native of Asheville, NC and speaks 4 languages.
Born near Lake Victoria in Uganda, Herbert Kinobe (Chinobay) is a gifted Ugandan multi-instrumentalist, vocalist and composer known for his inspired synthesis of African roots and global fusion. He is dedicated to bringing love and joy to people through his music and contributing to building healthier lives and communities for children and families everywhere.

The Pink Stones deliver a full serving of Peach State picked country-rock from Athens, Georgia with the release of their debut album, Introducing… The Pink Stones, via the New West Records imprint Normaltown Records. Mixing elements of classic cosmic country, raucous rock’n’roll and fresh humor and heartaches, The Pink Stones are authoring a new chapter in the annals of Cosmic American Music.
Teddy and The Rough Riders were born in Nashville, TN. A group of childhood friends who grew up in the spotlight of “music city”, they’ve cut their teeth in the local honky tonk/ country scene, as well as rock clubs across the US. They play their own modern style of Country Rock that sets them apart from the Americana folk scene encompassing New Nashville.
TRRs newest release “The Congress of Teddy and The Rough Riders” was recorded at their home in the alleys behind legendary Music Row, and combines heavy hitting rockers full of screaming pedal steel with their Appalachian bluegrass style close harmony. Country-Rock is just a genre, but Teddy and The Rough Riders are able to truly branch both sides of the spectrum, turning Rock fans into cowboys, and hillbillies into head bangers.

FLAT ROCK PLAYHOUSE
In 1937, a group of struggling performers, led by Robroy Farquhar, organized themselves as the Vagabond Players. The Vagabonds worked in a variety of places over the course of three years, and in 1940 found themselves in the Blue Ridge region of Western North Carolina. The local and tourist community welcomed them with open arms when they presented their first summer season of plays in a 150-year-old grist mill they converted into The Old Mill Playhouse at Highland Lake. So successful was that summer, they returned in 1941. After WWII, the Vagabond Players reorganized came back to the region and opened a playhouse in nearby Lake Summit. The Lake Summit Playhouse thrived during the post-war years and soon the Vagabond Players were looking for a larger and permanent home. In 1952, the troupe of performers, and a newly formed board of directors made an offer to buy an 8-acre lot in the Village of Flat Rock. This new home made the Vagabonds “locals” and a rented big top gave birth to Flat Rock Playhouse. As the beautiful Western Carolina region continued to grow, so did the Playhouse and in 1961, by Act of the North Carolina General Assembly, Flat Rock Playhouse was officially designated The State Theatre of North Carolina. What began as a few weeks of summer performances in 1940 is now a nine-month season of plays including Broadway musicals, comedy, drama, and theatre for young audiences. The Playhouse’s dual mission of producing the performing arts and providing education in the performing arts includes a professional series; a summer and fall college apprentice and intern program; and Studio 52, year-round classes and workshops in theatre and film for students from kindergarten through adults. Flat Rock Playhouse now hosts over 98,000 patrons annually and is a significant contributor to the local economy and the Arts in North Carolina.

A mid-winter jazz tradition, come celebrate the life and music of the great gypsy guitarist Django Reinhardt. This year’s show will feature three amazing sets of gypsy jazz in the Django style, with the Page Brothers Quartet, The Gypsy Swingers, and the Hot Club of Asheville. Truly some of the best musicians in the region. Close your eyes and you will be in 1930’s Paris.
The Page Brothers Quartet pays homage to the Hot Club tradition performing Django classics alongside modern jazz repertoire and original material. The group has performed across the Southeast and always enjoys playing the Grey Eagle’s annual Django Festival.
Exploring a wide array of jazz standards, the band features gypsy guitar, a dynamic vocalist, stand-up bass and an assortment of guest melody instruments, from violin, to vibraphones, clarinet to trumpet. With beautiful variety, they groove to Latin tunes (bossa novas and rumbas), swing, original compositions and waltzes.
The Hot Club of Asheville, led by guitarist Steve Karla, is a collective of Asheville’s finest professional musicians, coming together with a shared love of Gypsy Jazz music. The Club started in 2017, and has been performing weekly shows at various Asheville venues, jazz showcases, and private events since. The band honors the traditional Gypsy Swing in the styles of Django Reinhardt and Stéphane Grappelli from the 1930-50’s, while infusing the tradition with more modern qualities of jazz expression.
The Hot Club of Asheville is unique as an instrumental band, holding the audience’s attention with classy melodic lines, vibrant improvisations and spirited rhythms. Perfect for an event that may require distinguished yet lively music, the band can function as both background music or the main act. The Core band performs as a quartet of two guitars, violin, and upright bass, and has the ability to play as a trio or add players to suit specific events and the desired sound.
Fusing elements of rock, pop, funk, and improvisation, Big Something takes listeners on a journey through a myriad of musical styles. Its no secret why this group has quickly become one of the most exciting bands to emerge from the Southeast. Huge rhythms paired with soaring guitars, E.W.I(electronic wind instrument), synths, horns, and alluring vocal hooks rise to the top of their infectious collection of songs and represent a sound that has landed the band marquee appearances at Bonnaroo, Peach Music Festival, Lock’n, Summer Camp and Electric Forest as well as critical acclaim from the likes of Billboard, Guitar World, Glide Magazine and Jambase.With 5 full-length studio albums produced by Grammy-nominee John Custer, and even their own summer music festival The Big What? the band has carved out its own niche in the live music community and continues to grow nationally with sold-out headlining performances throughout the theUnited States. It was more than unlikely circumstances that brought these two together. David Benedict grew up in South Carolina playing with the only Celtic folk band in town, while Tabitha Agnew was perhaps the only 12 year-old in Northern Ireland who started playing the 5-string banjo after a chance hearing of an Alison Krauss & Union Station record. Ironically, it took each a while to discover the traditional music of their own countries, but they eventually came around. Both excelled at their instruments and found themselves playing with some of the most promising young acoustic bands on the scene today—David with the Boston-band Mile Twelve and Tabitha with both Cup O’Joe and Midnight Skyracer from the UK. With such unique common threads, there was an instant connection when Tabitha and David finally met.
Now married and based in the States, the Benedicts are finally making music on their own. Their debut EP Put All Your Troubles Away marks the first chapter in their journey together, and this adventurous recording will take you along with them to uncharted musical territories.

FLAT ROCK PLAYHOUSE
In 1937, a group of struggling performers, led by Robroy Farquhar, organized themselves as the Vagabond Players. The Vagabonds worked in a variety of places over the course of three years, and in 1940 found themselves in the Blue Ridge region of Western North Carolina. The local and tourist community welcomed them with open arms when they presented their first summer season of plays in a 150-year-old grist mill they converted into The Old Mill Playhouse at Highland Lake. So successful was that summer, they returned in 1941. After WWII, the Vagabond Players reorganized came back to the region and opened a playhouse in nearby Lake Summit. The Lake Summit Playhouse thrived during the post-war years and soon the Vagabond Players were looking for a larger and permanent home. In 1952, the troupe of performers, and a newly formed board of directors made an offer to buy an 8-acre lot in the Village of Flat Rock. This new home made the Vagabonds “locals” and a rented big top gave birth to Flat Rock Playhouse. As the beautiful Western Carolina region continued to grow, so did the Playhouse and in 1961, by Act of the North Carolina General Assembly, Flat Rock Playhouse was officially designated The State Theatre of North Carolina. What began as a few weeks of summer performances in 1940 is now a nine-month season of plays including Broadway musicals, comedy, drama, and theatre for young audiences. The Playhouse’s dual mission of producing the performing arts and providing education in the performing arts includes a professional series; a summer and fall college apprentice and intern program; and Studio 52, year-round classes and workshops in theatre and film for students from kindergarten through adults. Flat Rock Playhouse now hosts over 98,000 patrons annually and is a significant contributor to the local economy and the Arts in North Carolina.

Boy Harsher, the Northampton, US-based duo of vocalist/lyricist Jae Matthews and producer Augustus Muller, announce their new album ‘The Runner (Original Soundtrack)’, out January 21st, 2022 on Nude Club.
Boy Harsher’s fifth release is not a traditional album — it’s the musical counterpart to a short film written, produced, and directed by the duo, entitled The Runner, which will be released alongside the album in January 2022. The Runner is a horror film intercut with a meta-style “documentary” about Boy Harsher’s recording process. The soundtrack balances cinematic instrumentals with pop songs that push the boundaries of Boy Harsher’s sound. In conjunction with today’s announcement, they unveil the album’s lead single, “Tower,” and share new tour dates.
This year will feature an exhilarating blend of beloved productions, including Million Dollar Quartet, West Side Story, and Mamma Mia! The popular Music on the Rock® series, Studio 52 Family Programming, and a brand new Black Box series round out the 2022 season and mark a renewed beginning for FRP after a long pandemic shutdown.

Learn audition etiquette and techniques in this low-pressure, four-week program led by Flat Rock Playhouse’s Director of Education, Anna Kimmell. In this class, students will learn how and what material to prepare for auditions, get tips on calming anxiety and nerves, and have the opportunity to get coaching on pre-prepared songs or monologues. Whether you’re a first-time auditionee, stepping back into theatre after some time off, or adding new material to your audition repertoire, this class will get you feeling ready to put your best foot forward!

At twelve years old, Ryley Walker discovered that music was the only thing that made him want to get through each day. A midwesterner born to working class parents, as well as an uninspired student who sucked at sports, the only thing in the world that seemed cool to Walker was rock music and guitars. Favoring Jimmy Page, Sonic Youth, Led Zeppelin and “fucked up sounds” that made his parents feel nauseous, he formed his first basement punk band on the cusp of teenagehood. By the time he reached highschool, he began immersing himself in jazz guitar, discovering the polyrhythmic work of Nick Drake, and the melodically dexterous coterie of ‘60s British singer-songwriters that surrounded him. Building on his musical influences and DNA, naturally, Walker became a fingerpicking lunatic.
