PATIO SHOW: Taylor Knighton

The Grey Eagle
Raised on the Alabama Gulf Coast, Taylor has been singing since before she could talk, so when she picked up a guitar for the first time, it felt like the last piece of the puzzle falling into place. Since then, she’s found a true musical companion in the ukulele, after being given one as a surprise from a gracious group of friends and musicians that had come together for the open mic she ran for years in her hometown of Mobile. That little uke has now seen the world with her, and delighted listeners from Istanbul to Medellín. These travels are reflected in her music, as Taylor, an amateur linguist, frequently sings in languages other than her own.
These days, she calls Western NC home, and loves to implement elements of the special Appalachian sound within her musical stylings. Her originals blend jazz, pop and folk, and her covers are thoughtfully selected and often quite nostalgic. She loves to play with unique compositions that really let her voice shine, especially after a fight with thyroid cancer in 2021 nearly robbed her of her ability to sing forever. Thankfully it did not, and the joy she feels in having it back is obvious and radiant whenever she performs.

By entering this raffle, entrants accept and agree to be bound by all the rules, limitations and restrictions set forth here and that their names and/or likenesses may be disclosed to and used by the news media and may otherwise be used by BMC for publicity purposes.
The winner may choose a new 2022 Volvo, Subaru, or Hyundai prize vehicle from Hunter Automotive Group of Fletcher, NC with an MSRP up to $50,000.
Vehicle choice will be subject to the current available inventory of the dealer. BMC reserves the right to substitute a Volvo, Subaru, or Hyundai model of equal value.
The winner is responsible for all taxes, delivery costs, dealer fees, and any options he or she may choose above the vehicle’s manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) greater than $50,000.
The gross winnings of the raffle will be reported to the federal and state tax authorities at the MSRP and the winner is responsible for income tax withholding prior to taking title to the prize.

Brevard Music Center is required by law to report the base MSRP of the vehicle the winner chooses as gaming income to federal and state authorities and to withhold and deposit federal income taxes equal to 25% of the MSRP less the wager (raffle ticket). The winner’s payment of the federal taxes to BMC will be deposited with the US Federal Treasury and the winner will receive credit for the taxes remitted. In order for the dealer to release the winner’s vehicle, the winner will need to provide the following to BMC:

White Horse sessions regularly draws players from as far away as Waynesville, Cullowhee, Rutherfordton and even Clayton, Georgia.
The sessions are hosted by Richard and Melinda Halford. Drop by for a beer or a cup of tea and get uplifted by some great traditional tunes and a few new songs.

Sophie + the Broken Things w/ Stacy Antonel

While tracking the new songs on Delusions of Grandeur, Sophie Gault caught the attention of a Nashville legend: GRAMMY Award-winning producer Ray Kennedy, who is known for his own country hits from the early ‘90s, as well as his work with artists such as Steve Earle, Rodney Crowell, and Lucinda Williams. Serving as an unofficial advisor throughout the recording process and then mixing and mastering the resulting 10-song set, Kennedy has fostered a special interest in the project, saying, “Sophie’s songs have a cozy familiarity with a feeling reminiscent of some of my favorite records from the ’70s: timeless yet new, with an emotional delivery I don’t hear in other contemporary records. The lyrics combine visual storytelling with melodies that make me want to sing along, and the band electrifies the many moods with textural tones of nostalgia to full-on rock ’n’ roll.”
The nostalgic, timeless feel of Gault’s songwriting and guitar skill is fueled by early years spent living on a Maryland farm – cultivated through many afternoons listening to and imitating the likes of Freddie King and Keith Richards, as well as a musical bond Gault shared with her father since childhood.
Nashville artist Stacy Antonel makes clever, country-leaning Americana that feels both vintage and hyper-modern. Her “country jazz” vocals conjure the great singers of the 20s-30s, with the emotive power of country icon Patsy Cline. Rooted in classic country and laced with elements of jazz, pop, and R&B, Antonel’s narrative songs often feature unconventional themes.
Antonel grew up near San Diego studying classical piano and cites an eclectic range of early musical inspiration: Tori Amos’s peculiar phrasing, Otis Redding’s rich melodic hooks. After winning televised singing contest “3 Minutes to Stardom”, Antonel quit her job to focus full- time on music. She began performing classic country covers as Ginger Cowgirl, and in 2017 moved to Nashville to record her self-titled debut EP, which was released in 2019. The album was praised by critics and led to tours in California, the Southeast, the UK, and Germany.

Night In The Country Carolinas Music Festival

Night in the Country Music Festivals returns to the Carolina foothills August 25-27, 2022. This Pure Country experience brings some of country music’s hottest artists to the world-renowned Tryon Resort in Mill Spring, North Carolina.
Night in the Country Carolinas features three nights of country music with performances by Darius Rucker, Jon Pardi, Dierks Bentley, Jimmie Allen, Jameson Rogers, Ashley McBryde, and much more! During the day, the festival has a wide range of one-of-a-kind events and attractions including Bands, Brews & Que, the Craft Beer Experience, Grapeland, the Beer Relay, Tournament of Champions, and more. The festival also features live music during the day and an outdoor nightlife experience after the concerts.
The festival takes place on festival grounds unlike any other. Tryon Resort is a 1,600-acre facility featuring 13 rings, onsite luxury cabins and an inn, RV pads with full hook-ups, and wide-open grounds and arenas that have the potential to host the largest music festivals and events in the world. Rooted in the Carolina foothills, the Night in the Country experience transforms the world-renowned Tryon International Equestrian Center into your next great country tradition.
Sip and stroll through the Arboretum’s gardens in the glow of the golden hour, all while listening to live music from a variety of local and regional artists! ArborEvenings runs Thursdays and most Fridays through September 30, 2022 from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m.
There is no additional cost to attend ArborEvenings beyond our standard parking fee. As always, Arboretum Society members and their accompanying guests can enter for FREE (guests must be in member vehicles to receive free entry). Proceeds from ArborEvenings help support the The North Carolina Arboretum Society and further advance the Arboretum’s mission.
Beer, Wine, and soft drinks will be for sale onsite at the Green Gardener’s Shed from 5:30 to 8:15 p.m. each night of the event. Outside alcohol is strictly prohibited, but guests are welcome to bring in water or a favorite non-alcoholic beverage.

Although the Bent Creek Bistro will not be open during the event, they will be offering their delicious dining options at ArborEvenings via pre-order! Gill achieved his big breakthrough in 1990 with “When I Call Your Name,” which won both the Country Music Association’s (CMA) Single and Song of the Year awards as well as a Grammy for Best Country Vocal Performance, Male. Since then, Gill has won 17 additional CMA Awards, including Song of the Year four times – making him the most-awarded artist in that category in CMA history, and a total of 22 Grammy Awards, his most recent one for Best Country Solo Performance – “When My Amy Prays.” The Academy of Country Music has conferred on Gill eight awards, including its Home Depot Humanitarian Award and the Career Achievement Award.

The Asheville Lounge Sessions
The Isis Music Hall will be hosting a brand-new weekly series called The Asheville Lounge Sessions. Featuring and focusing on area vocalists, the 90 minute dinner and a showcase will take place in the intimate upstairs lounge.
Veteran guitarist and accomplished songwriter, Jonathan Pearlman who once hosted the area’s premiere and time-honored Thursday night Jazz Jam in downtown Asheville, will reprise his band leading role for this series. He will direct a rotating-member house band that will back up local vocalists performing various styles of music each Thursday night beginning at 7pm.
Opening the showcase each week, and serving as MC will be Best In Blues Chanteuse, Peggy Ratusz. While the crux of each month of Thursdays will feature singers in the upstairs lounge, occasionally Jonathan and Peggy will switch things up and become hosts of The Asheville Jam Session starting at 8:30pm downstairs on the main stage. For these nights, area musicians and musician-vocalists will jam the night away for 2 hours of impromptu, extemporaneous Blues and Jazz music!

Tyler Nail is a songwriter, singer, multi-instrumentalist, recording artist, and performer. Nail’s music sounds like North Carolina. It is rooted in the Appalachian music tradition, decorated with southern imagery, nostalgic sentiment, and dark grit. Nail is currently preparing for the release of a new recording project..
Tyler Nail has described his artistic process as his method for “observing time and meaning through some sort of creative form.” He has shared stages with many stellar artists across many towns and cities in the U.S. (Caleb Caudle, The Hackansaw Boys, Dex Romweber, Underhill Rose, Roadkill Ghost Choir, Lyra Lynn, Jim Avett, Suzy Bogguss).
After a long hiatus from touring, Tyler Nail is currently in a re-launch stage of his artistic career. He is set to release a new record in 2021. He recently launched a Patreon account (a platform that allows fans to subscribe to exclusive content from an artist on a monthly basis) and a production company that specializes in original audio and video content. Nail says that he is building “a new and improved model” for the way he works as an artist.

Devin the Dude

With deep ties to Houston’s influential early-’90s rap scene, Devin the Dude rolled through several generations of hip-hop, cultivating a laid-back style fixated on weed, partying, and his distinctively hazy perspective on everyday life. Producing as well as rapping, he began releasing solo albums in 1998 with The Dude. He quickly became a rapper’s rapper, collaborating with big-name talents from Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg to De La Soul, Nas, Andre 3000, and many others. Though he never rose to the mainstream success of some of his peers, albums like 2007’s stony yet intricate Waiting to Inhale were hits with critics and a dedicated cult following. He landed in the Top 20 of Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart in 2010 with Suite 420 and Gotta Be Me and hit number nine on the Top Rap Albums chart with 2013’s One for the Road. Devin the Dude has remained a left-of-center favorite with albums like 2017’s Acoustic Levitation, 2019’s Still Rollin’ Up: Somethin’ to Ride With, and 2021’s Soulful Distance.
Devin the Dude was born Devin Copeland in Pontiac, Michigan, but raised in Florida and Texas. As a child, he went back and forth from New Boston to Houston and finally settled in the latter after he graduated high school. In the late ’80s, Devin met Rob Quest, a blind rapper, and producer who was part of a Houston crew called the Coughee Brothaz. Later, the duo formed a group named the Odd Squad and recruited Devin’s longtime friend Jugg Mugg and a local DJ named DJ Screw. Screw (who was later replaced by DJ Styles) took the group’s demo tape to Rap-A-Lot Records CEO James Smith, who quickly signed the group in 1992. Their debut album, Fadanuf fa Erybody!!, was released in 1994 with “I Can’t See It” as the lead single and video.
Although hip-hop fans praised the effort put out by the Odd Squad, their album was not as commercially successful as they hoped. While the group went back to the drawing board, Rap-A-Lot franchise artist Scarface approached Devin to be a part of his new group, Facemob. Facemob released one album in 1996, The Other Side of the Law, and then broke up due to internal problems. At this time, Devin decided to work on his debut solo album, The Dude, with the help of Smith and Scarface.
The Dude was released in 1998 with virtually no video and little radio play. It was a smoothed-out, funk-laden album and an ode to wine, women, and weed. Regardless, the album built a large underground following and even caught the attention of veteran hip-hop producer Dr. Dre. He contacted Devin in 1999 and asked him to be a part of the 2001 album on the track “Fuck You.” This single appearance made Devin a hot commodity, earning him appearances on songs with De La Soul, Raphael Saadiq, veteran rap group UGK, and a solo track on the Oz soundtrack.
His anticipated sophomore LP, Just Tryin’ ta Live, was released in the summer of 2002 and featured appearances from Nas, Xzibit, and Raphael Saadiq with production from Dre, DJ Premier, and his Coughee Brothaz. To tha X-Treme arrived two years later and was followed in 2007 by Waiting to Inhale, his first album to crack the Top 40 on Billboard’s album chart. It featured guest appearances from Snoop Dogg, Lil Wayne, Bun B, and more. It would also be Devin’s last record with Rap-A-Lot after a 15-year relationship. He signed on with Razor & Tie for his 2008 album Landing Gear. Suite #420 followed in 2010 and had the honor of being released on the stoner’s holiday of April 20. His seventh LP, Gotta Be Me, arrived later that year.
In 2013, Devin issued One for the Road (eOne). His eighth full-length entered the Top 50 of the Billboard R&B/hip-hop chart. In 2017, he returned with the collaborative single “Smoke with Me,” with rapper Crim Dela Crim. He also issued the Acoustic Levitation album, which was accompanied by a tour of the same name. In 2019, he returned with his ninth studio LP, Still Rollin’ Up: Somethin’ to Ride With. The full-length Soulful Distance arrived in February 2021.

The drawing will take place on Tuesday, November 15, 2022 at 3:00pm EDT. All mail, phone, and internet orders must be received by 11:59pm EDT on Monday, November 14, 2022.
TICKETS
The cost to purchase a single entry (“Ticket”) for the Raffle is $125 (U.S. Funds only) and is not tax deductible.
DETAILS
By entering this raffle, entrants accept and agree to be bound by all the rules, limitations and restrictions set forth here and that their names and/or likenesses may be disclosed to and used by the news media and may otherwise be used by BMC for publicity purposes.
The winner may choose a new 2022 Volvo, Subaru, or Hyundai prize vehicle from Hunter Automotive Group of Fletcher, NC with an MSRP up to $50,000.
Vehicle choice will be subject to the current available inventory of the dealer. BMC reserves the right to substitute a Volvo, Subaru, or Hyundai model of equal value.
The winner is responsible for all taxes, delivery costs, dealer fees, and any options he or she may choose above the vehicle’s manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) greater than $50,000.
The gross winnings of the raffle will be reported to the federal and state tax authorities at the MSRP and the winner is responsible for income tax withholding prior to taking title to the prize.
Individuals may purchase as many tickets as they wish; however, only 1,500 tickets will be sold.
Participants must be 18 years old or older.
BMC employees, faculty, and students 18 or older are eligible to participate.
Winnings are not redeemable for cash.
If a minimum of 600 tickets is not sold, all ticket holders will receive a full refund and the raffle will not occur.
BMC does not make or provide any representation, guarantee or warranty, expressed or implied, in connection with the car and accepts no liability or responsibility regarding the construction or condition of the car.
WINNINGS
Once the winner has selected a prize vehicle, the Dealer will notify BMC of the award vehicle’s MSRP. BMC will calculate the required federal income taxes due. The raffle winner is responsible for remitting the funds to BMC for the federal income tax. Brevard Music Center is required by law to report the base MSRP of the vehicle the winner chooses as gaming income to federal and state authorities and to withhold and deposit federal income taxes equal to 25% of the MSRP less the wager (raffle ticket). The winner’s payment of the federal taxes to BMC will be deposited with the US Federal Treasury and the winner will receive credit for the taxes remitted. In order for the dealer to release the winner’s vehicle, the winner will need to provide the following to BMC:
A completed form W-9.
Payment to BMC of the appropriate amount of federal tax withholding in cash or certified check.
Once both of these are received, BMC will authorize the dealer to release the vehicle. The winner will receive a Form W-2G by January 31, 2023 to use in preparing their 2022 income tax return.

Present today in over 40 countries and on all 6 continents, Ethno engages young people through a series of annual international music camps as well as workshops, concerts and tours, working together with schools, conservatories and other groups of youth to promote peace, tolerance and understanding.

Night in the Country Music Festivals returns to the Carolina foothills August 25-27, 2022. This Pure Country experience brings some of country music’s hottest artists to the world-renowned Tryon Resort in Mill Spring, North Carolina.
Night in the Country Carolinas features three nights of country music with performances by Darius Rucker, Jon Pardi, Dierks Bentley, Jimmie Allen, Jameson Rogers, Ashley McBryde, and much more! During the day, the festival has a wide range of one-of-a-kind events and attractions including Bands, Brews & Que, the Craft Beer Experience, Grapeland, the Beer Relay, Tournament of Champions, and more.
