Verner Center for Early Learning needs volunteers!
For over 20 years, Verner Center is a local nonprofit in Asheville that primarily serves children ages 0-5 years who are living in high-risk vulnerable situations. They have a variety of needs – ranging from holding babies, helping with clerical duties, keeping their library tidy and up to date with books donated, teaching the children in the garden they have planted, general upkeep and maintenance of the garden, and reading with the children.
They have two locations – one in Swannanoa and one in West Asheville.
The Kiwanis Club of Black Mountain-Swannanoa is presenting its first Field of Honor®. A field of American flags dedicated to military and first responders will be flying from September 11 – September 30th at the lot between the Black Mountain United Methodist Church and Harwood Home for Funerals (200 W. State Street, Black Mountain, NC 28711). An opening ceremony will be held on Monday, September 11 at 1:00 at the field location and a closing ceremony will take place at 11:00 on September 30 to retire the flags. All funds raised by this event will be distributed to non-profit organizations and used for scholarships in the Black Mountain/Swannanoa area. We count on your help to throw this amazing party! We still need docents and bartenders to make this night a success.

Sept 28th – SetupWe will be working at all three houses to meet crews for tent setup and rental drop offs. We will also be running last minute errands, transporting supplies, folding programs etc! This is going to be a catch all day for all the little stuff we haven’t done yet and we will need help! We don’t have a schedule for the day but let us know if you have some availability to help and we will be in touch!

Sept 30th – House DocentHouse docents are responsible for keeping guests and the home safe. You will get a room assignment and be trained to answer questions and assist guests. Please note, the schedule is different for each of the homes so make sure you are able to work the entire shift for the home you select.

Sept 30th – BartenderBartenders will pour pre-mixed cocktails, beer and wine for guests. Please note, the schedule is different for each of the homes so make sure you are able to work the entire shift for the home you select.

Please join us as Reverend Scott Rogers unveils plans for the expansion of Transformation Village (TrV) campus and programs. TrV provides homeless women and children transitional housing, healthy meals, education, and support in a safe environment. Tours will be given after our presentation. Join the Green Riverkeeper on Thursday, July 27th for our Green Clean Series! This event continues the 4th Thursday of every month June-September from 5:30-8ish. You do not have to kayak to be a part of the monthly cleans. We absolutely welcome road-side helpers too!

We’re putting our build crew back together and we’d love to have you join us. Every 2 weeks, we’ll meet at 9 am for hands-on set construction! Whether your talents are building, painting, or you just want to learn, come out and join us every other Saturday for some creative fun. Tools and work gloves are helpful but not required

Part social gathering, part fashion, part fundraiser. Come to mingle, find a new favorite outfit, and raise money for reproductive justice.
The swap takes place on Saturday, September 30 from 1-4 at Hi-Wire Brewing River Arts District. All profits from ticket sales and $1 from each flagship beer sale will be donated to Asheville’s Planned Parenthood and Mountain Area Abortion Doula Collective.

How it works
Drop off clothes before Sept 30 at Hi-Wire RAD
Hi-Wire’s hours are below. Drop off your contribution during these times.
Monday–Thursday 3-10pm
Friday & Saturday 12pm-12am
Sunday 12-9pm
Accepted clothing:
Adult clothing and shoes are accepted
Sorry, no kid’s clothing or accessories
Items should be in good, clean condition
Bring 1-20+ items
Items will be organized by feminine and masculine styles, we anticipate receiving more feminine-style clothing based on previous events. The fundraiser is open to people of all genders and sizes.
On the day of the event
Arrive to swap the shop! You can leave with 15(ish) items
We’ll swap until we run out, so come on time for the best selection!
Unswapped clothing will be donated or kept for future swaps/reuse projects

Join us on Sunday, Oct. 1 from 1 p.m. – 3 p.m. for an official Meet & Greet with Blue Ridge Roller Derby! Grab some ice cream or bubble tea and meet your favorite local skaters. Learn more about the league and the unique sport of roller derby all while enjoying an afternoon treat!
