In Times of Seismic Sorrows
Jan 14 @ 10:00 am – 6:00 pm
Center for Craft

When reflecting on the current state of the environment, it seems that we have entered into times of seismic sorrows. Carbon emissions, water pollution, fracking, and changing climate patterns all point to a troubling reality with serious consequences for human and non-human populations. Through weavings, installations, sculpture, and print, artists Rena Detrixhe and Tali Weinberg (Tulsa, OK) explore the complex relationship between humans and the planet, offering insights, expressing grief, and creating space for resilience and change.

In Time of Seismic Sorrows is curated by Marilyn Zapf and organized by the Center for Craft. The Center for Craft is supported in part by the N.C. Arts Council, a division of the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources.

Rockin’ Winter Photo Contest
Jan 14 @ 10:00 am – 4:30 pm
Chimney Rock at Chimney Rock State Park

Winter can be the most beautiful time of the year at Chimney Rock. Leafless trees make for expansive views of Lake Lure and the Hickory Nut Gorge. The sky is clear; you’re likely to find a quiet spot to sit and enjoy the peacefulness. You may even see a critter scamper by you in the forest. Capture that special moment or scene on your camera, enter it in our Winter Wonders Photo Contest and tell us about it. We’ll use the winning entries on our website and Facebook album, and you’ll win some fun prizes. Photos must be taken within the Chimney Rock section of the Park.

Cost: No additional cost to enter.

Jan 14 @ 11:00 am – 5:00 pm
Woolworth Walk

We are honored to share our passion for our Beloved Black Bears in our exhibit at the “FW Gallery” in Woolworth Walk – downtown Asheville. We are grateful to have been chosen to be their Featured Artists. We want to also thank the many lovely people who work at Woolworth Walk and have supported and assisted us with the exhibit.

The FW Gallery exhibit will end Tuesday, January 29th at 6pm. Our permanent artist booth #229 downstairs “Beloved Black Bear” has over 50 black bear canvases 11×14 at $75 each. We hope you will stop by to visit.

We are happy to say that many black bear canvases have been sold and are now adorning many homes. Our wish is for all of us to share our compassion for the black bear with our friends, family, and neighbors and create connections with the bears giving them a voice.

Monthly Name Change Clinic
Jan 14 @ 12:00 pm – 4:00 pm
Tranzmission

Join us for another free legal name change clinic. We will supply you with all of the paperwork needed for the name change and help you answer any questions you may have while navigating this often confusing process. It’s easier with friends!

Our clinic is free, but there are different costs associated with the name change process that you will pay to different agencies along the way, and they are as follows:

Fingerprint fees: $10 each (you’ll need 2 sets)
State background check: $14
FBI background check: $18
Name change petition: $120
Notary fees: vary by location
There is also a charge for a new copy of your birth certificate, but that depends on what state you were born in. To find that info, check https://www.vitalchek.com.

Not all fees are due at the same time in the name change process. Fingerprints are the first step in the process which you then send off for the the state and FBI background checks. The federal background check can take up to 3 months to return, so you will have a little time to get the filing fee for the name change petition together.

If you feel like you would be more comfortable with an escort to the ID Bureau for fingerprinting or to the courthouse to file papers, please let us know in advance of the clinic date so that we can make the proper arrangements.

COGNITIVE
Technical Death Metal // Jobbstown, NJ // Unique Leader Records
Listen to “Omnicide” off the brand-new album Matricide: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GlpMvbAHPCU

Hailing from South Jersey, Cognitive was born in 2011 with the sole intent to create heavy, intensely technical music, while maintaining an edge of creativity that separates them from the over-produced sea of subgenres. Combining technicality, guitar solos, grooves, and abstract ideas within their songwriting, COGNITIVE is continually pushing itself to think outside of the proverbial box while maintaining an organic and unapologetically brutal edge.

MICAWBER
Death Metal // Green Bay, WI // Prosthetic Records
Listen to “Beyond the Reach of Flame,” title track of their new album, here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sAzGE6P1mP8

For the past decade, Green Bay based death metallers MICAWBER have held onto a steadfast DIY work ethic. They’ve self-released two full length albums and three EPs and have completed 25 tours throughout North America and Europe, supporting Sepultura, Vader, Vital Remains and Internal Bleeding to name a few, as well as appeared at countless metal festivals. 2018 saw them join forces with Prosthetic Records on the release of their third album, Beyond The Reach Of Flame, released worldwide on May 25th.
