Bella’s Bartok w/ Jerry Dean
Bella’s Bartok
All little children grow up, one day – all except the bedazzled and glittered boys of Bella’s Bartok. Inspired by elements of Vaudeville, centuries of street performance, and an unyielding drive to promote camaraderie, Northampton, MA-based Bella’s Bartok delivers a passionate kaleidoscope of sound. The songs are born of Americana and folk music of their immigrant grandparents, blended with the joy of a particular brand of pop sensibility. Their performances are at once a primal stand against oppression and a declaration of joy in the face of adversity. From quiet reflections on loss, to the howl of justice in four-part harmony, Bella’s Bartok sonically and lyrically delivers a sweaty, soulful dance-party that is sure to leave the audience happily breathless.
Bella’s Bartok started in the dimly lit alleyways of Great Barrington, MA, Bella’s Bartok gradually evolved from street-punk performers to an electric, brass-filled, accordion-based spectacle that has continued to entertain audiences for nearly a decade. The line-up includes: Asher Putnam (Vocals, Bass, all-around entertainer), Dan Niederhauser (Guitar and Vocals), Amory Drennan (Trombone/Banjo and Vocals), Crisco (Drums/Percussion and Trumpet), Gershon Rosen (Trumpet), and Alex Kogut (Accordion, Keyboard). The band has shared the stage with musicians and acts such as Rubblebucket, Red Baraat, The Indigo Girls, Larry & His Flask, The Suitcase Junket, Parsonsfield, And the Kids, Kanye, Rough Francis, Beau Sasser’s Escape Plan, West End Blend, Adam Ezra Group, Meat Puppets, World Inferno/Friendship Society, Rupa & the April Fishes, Arc Iris, and many more. Find Bella’s Bartok on a variety of stages, at a myriad of festivals, or on the street across the continental United States. Audiences often pick up on the band’s main influences such as Frank Zappa, System of a Down, Tom Waits, and Oingo Boingo.
If you’ve never listened to Bella’s Bartok, stop what you’re doing right now. Run to the nearest computer and listen to their uproarious, joyful, eclectic sound. The band plays a mesmerizing mix of Eastern European, Americana, punk, and pop music. Their live shows are theatrical, “a mix of The Nightmare Before Christmas and the Rocky Horror Picture Show” says front man Asher Putnam. “We are the night and you are bound to boogie.” So, do yourself a favor, practice a little self care, throw your societal inhibitions to the wayside and let yourself get lost to the tune of Bella’s Bartok – before the tumult of daily life rears its ugly head once more. Floors may be broken, but hearts will be mended.

Dirt Monkey
Dirt Monkey, aka Patrick Megeath, has carved his uplifting, bouncy, and unique sounds within the Denver, Colorado dubstep scene and has gained international acknowledgement with his punchy and playful sound design. His tracks have gained support and captivated audiences via many pioneers, such as: Skream, Benga, Rusko, Datsik, Excision, A-Trak, Virtual Riot, Anna Lunoe, Annie Nightingale (BBC Radio 1), Downlink, Ganja White Night, and Protohype. Dirt Monkey’s Remix of Rusko’s “Woo Boost” has recently hit the world by storm, was released on Subcarbon Records, and to top it all off, is supported by the don himself, Rusko. Although this eclectic music junky enjoys a wide-variety of music, he has gravitated towards the trippy, crisp sounds of IDM and the wonky, high-energy sounds of old school dubstep and strives to fuse the two together.
He has worked with a wide-variety of artists including: DMVU, Space Jesus, Illenium, Party Wave, Run DMT, AMP Live, and Jantsen. Dirt Monkey has performed at a countless number of breathtaking venues, including Red Rocks Amphitheatre, clubs in France, and Beta Nightclub in Denver, CO (where he has held a residency for the last 5 years). Also, for the past four years, he established and ran the record label, Kairos Audio, with the help of co-founder, Jantsen.
In the future, expect this virtuoso to continue carving a niche that does not exist yet in the music scene and stay on the look out for a 5-song EP coming out in Spring 2017 on one of the most reputable labels in the world. Although, Dirt Monkey is extremely versatile to say the least, his true wobbly greatness will continue a movement within clubs, both boutique and world-class venues, and the colorful festival scene.

illanthropy.
Sometimes known in the human realm as Stephen Blasy, illanthropy has been rapidly gaining momentum with his dynamic production, unforgettable live sets, and overall purposefulness in his art. Shattering all expectations and ignoring conventional structure, his music perfectly embodies a paradoxical marriage between balls-to-the-walls heaviness and emotional euphoria.

Adding a Southeast destination for designer toy makers and collectors, *Assembly Required brings designer, bootleg and art toy artists from around the country, to present and sell their work.
Asheville’s premiere designer toy expo, *Assembly Required, is presented by Unboxing Asheville, Morgan’s Comic’s, 103.3 Asheville FM and Appalachian Pinball Museum. Focusing on this artistic movement, designer toys are a form of lowbrow pop art. These toy makers pull inspiration from a variety of subversive segments of culture, as well as subcultural elements, including (but not limited to) comics, tattooing, street art, and everything related to toys of the 60’s through the 80’s.
Echoing production methods of traditional toy manufacturers, designer toys are usually intended to be displayed as collectibles, rather than to be played with. Toy makers mediums range from resin to vinyl, from plastic to plush; with molding, and production techniques such as kitbash, sofubi and bootleg (recently coined ‘Artisanal Action Figure’, by New York Times writer, Rich Juzwiak [11/23/18]). (https://www.nytimes.com/2018/11/23/style/bootleg-toys-action-figures.html).
Juzwiak interviews such artists as the Sucklord and Killer Bootlegs, both of whom will be present at *Assembly Required.

This is an introduction to Vajrayana practice as skillful method.
Rituals are a feature of all known human societies. While Buddha reminded us that spiritual rituals cannot replace actual cultivation, he approved of their use to gladden and stabilize the mind in momentary goodness. Rituals are a “reminder” of our intentions that can transform the structure of appearances and create positive habitual tendencies in the mind. An example is when he allowed his disciples to offer formal (verbal) taking of “refuge in the Buddha, Dharma and Sangha” or the recitation that came to be known as the Metta sutta. He is often depicted using various hand gestures, purposefully. So, join us in ancient and contemporary exploration of mantra, mudra, visualization, music, and art from several different spiritual traditions. Plan to be inspired as you get out of the head and into the feeling of unity, joy and awakeness. Increase your capacity for happiness, compassion, acceptance and ardour for practice.
