Asheville’s premiere designer toy expo, *Assembly Required, is presented by Unboxing Asheville, Morgan’s Comic’s, 103.3 Asheville FM and Appalachian Pinball Museum. Toy makers mediums range from resin to vinyl, from plastic to plush; with molding, and production techniques such as kitbash, sofubi and bootleg (recently coined ‘Artisanal Action Figure’, by New York Times writer, Rich Juzwiak [11/23/18]). The nationally recognized, 7th Annual Asheville Marathon and Half marathon, will return to Asheville’s Biltmore Estate on March 16-17, 2019. The Asheville Marathon and Half events are ’boutique style’ events with limited entries available of 1,525 runners per day.
In 2018 the Asheville Marathon was named by Outside Online as one of the Top 9 vacation-worthy marathons and The Top Ten Best Spring/Summer Marathons to Run by MapMyRun. We were also listed as one of the 70 American Road Races every runner should finish by Runner’s World Magazine.
In 2017 the Asheville Marathon was named Top 25 Must-Do American Marathons by Competitor Magazine. In addition, the Asheville Half Marathon at Biltmore was honored to also be selected in the “Best Of” category in the 100 Half Marathons Club.
Run in America’s largest backyard at Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina at the 7th Annual Asheville Half Marathon 3/16/19 & AVL Marathon & Half Marathon on 3/17/19 OR DO BOTH DAYS and complete one of our Challenges! Details can be found on our website at www.ashevillemarathon.com. #RUNLUCKY7AVL
In the Asheville Marathon and Half Marathon, held on the grounds at Biltmore Estate, runners will explore 26.2 or 13.1 miles through America’s largest backyard in the 7th Annual event. Asheville Marathoners and Halfers will wind through hardwood forest, crayon-hued meadows, spring bloom-crackling gardens, and freshly cut views of the estate in March 2019.
The first HALF Marathon is on Saturday and on Sunday we have a Marathon and another Half Marathon – or challenge yourself and do BOTH DAYS in one of our two challenges! The BACKYARD TO BACKYARD CHALLENGE (Both Halfs – Saturday and Sunday = total of 26.2 miles) or 39.3 miles in the Backyard to Vineyard Challenge (both Saturday Half and Sunday Full Marathon)! This is the original Asheville Marathon and only race of its kind to come to Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina.
The Course
Asheville Marathoners will experience a couple of tall hills before mile eight and the remaining journey is a mixture of valley and rolling terrain. Beginning on-road near Antler Hill Village area, runners will climb to the Deerpark Restaurant, sail up and along the main road to the Biltmore House, and loop by, within feet from the massive main entrance doors of the House, to enter the Walled Garden. Runners will then edge along the Azalea Garden and lagoon paralleling the French Broad River, transition onto packed dirt carriage trails, and explore west quarter vistas of the Biltmore House normally off-limits to the public. The final stretch of the Asheville Marathon runs directly through working vineyards to finish back on east side.
Asheville Half Marathoners begin at Antler Hill Village and its many shops and attractions, the first loop will waft exquisite aromas from the kitchens of Deerpark Restaurant into the nostrils of competitors: surely a breath of fresh air to lungs that will no doubt be burning in the miles to come. Next, the course will lead to the site of the world-renowned Biltmore House itself, almost close enough to reach out and touch the doors to the main entrance. Immediately thereafter, the journey will proceed into the Walled Garden. As the House’s splendid architecture gives way to horticultural marvels, the meandering route winds along the Azalea Garden and lagoon.
With the broad-shouldered French Broad coursing within its nearby banks, there will occur a transition to dirt carriage roads. Here full marathon entrants will head towards the “wild west side” of the estate via a newly built bridge while half marathoners, turn around and finish their final three miles on their way up to the finish area at Antler Village.
Running for a Cause
Those participating in the Asheville Marathon and Half Marathon are not only competing for awards, scratching off bucket list items, or having the best day of their lives, but are also supporting local charity partners.

You will leave this course with:
• A base knowledge of the foundational Tui Na strokes, techniques and approaches.
• An understanding of when and how to appropriately apply these techniques.
• An understanding of the proper body mechanic approaches to use when applying Tui Na techniques in order to prevent wear and tear on the body.
Tui Na can be easily integrated into any style of massage practice and will provide the therapist with a set of new techniques and a different approach to body mechanics. This course is primarily hands on and teaches practical techniques that can be applied immediately.
A little about the modality:
Tui Na is a traditional Chinese form of massage. Its name translates to push and grasp. It is a simple, effective way to work soft tissue, mobilize joints, and relax tension to bring balance to the body. One of the oldest forms of bodywork, Tui Na has been passed down by families and taught in both schools and martial arts traditions. Traditionally, Tui Na was done completely clothed. In this course we will do both clothed and disrobed work so participants should come prepared to spend the weekend giving and receiving bodywork.
Your instructor: Nate Novgrod NCBTMB#1002 & NCCAOM #163852:
Nate practices as a Licensed Acupuncturist in Waynesville, NC and has been a life long student of tradi-tional Chinese martial arts ranging from Tai Chi to Ba Gua. He learned a traditional system of Tui Na in an apprenticeship style education from his martial arts teachers. He also learned a more modern approach during his training at the Oregon College of Oriental Medicine. He has taught this course for many years and enjoys the hands on nature of the weekend.

Absolutes, the new EP from New York indie pop act Yoke Lore, explores the grey areas between black and white ideas while building upon the lush, sonic palette of his past works. The new music finds multi-instrumentalist, dancer, and visual artist Adrian Galvin polishing his heartfelt anthems and ruminating on finding balance amid respective oppositions by breaking through the notion that truth necessitates purity.
“These songs all gravitate around the struggle between two sides of something,” Galvin explains. The opening track, “Fake You,” is about the difficulty of realizing your perception of someone doesn’t necessarily match who they really are. “Cut And Run” follows, conveying the instinct to flee versus the instinct to find a home, and “Concrete” illustrates Galvin’s struggle between living in the city and being in the country. “So, they are all the conflicts of absolutes,” he states. “There must be a balance, some movement and some pull. A life of absolutes is no life at all.” As with his previous releases, Galvin drew the artwork for his upcoming EP using bifurcated lines and contrasting imagery to convey his messages of absolutes.
The former Walk the Moon and Yellerkin member’s solo musical endeavor combines echoing waves of banjo, vocals, and percussion to create unforgettable pop songs with tactile sincerity and conviction. Galvin first hit the ground running in 2016 with Yoke Lore’s debut EP, Far Shore, released on B3Sci Records. In 2017, the title track of his 2017 EP “Goodpain” hit #1 on Hype Machine, and quickly after his songs caught fire on Spotify, racking up over 10 million plays throughout the year.
Goodpain also garnered attention from major tastemakers such as NYLON, Consequence of Sound, Billboard and more. Yoke Lore toured extensively through 2017 with acts like Aquilo and Overcoats, while also making his way to the UK for The Great Escape and festivals like Field Trip in Toronto and Billboard Hot 100 in New York.
Following the success of his song “Goodpain,” Galvin was invited to Spotify’s New York City studio to record a stripped-down version the track, as well as two covers for his Spotify Singles: “Last Christmas” by Wham! and “Truly Madly Deeply” by Savage Garden. His holiday song graced Spotify’s Holiday Singles playlist alongside covers by Demi Lovato, Sam Smith, and Miley Cyrus.
After a successful first-ever run of headline tour dates, Yoke Lore found a unexpected new fan in pop idol Taylor Swift, who added his cover of “Truly Madly Deeply” to her “Songs Taylor Loves” Spotify playlist in 2018. Galvin releases his third EP, Absolutes, in July 2018 after a cross-country spring tour with FRENSHIP and before heading out on tour again.

Dirty Logic – Asheville Steely Dan Tribute
Comprised of an all-star line-up of some of Asheville North Carolina’s best musicians, Dirty Logic started from a conversation after a gig one night. Patrick Armitage (drummer) and Jonathan Cole (saxophonist) were discussing Jesse Barry’s (singer) Steely Dan tribute concept… A few of their colleagues were within earshot and immediately wanted in. Three days later, Dirty Logic had their first rehearsal where they played three tracks from Aja; Black Cow, Josie and Peg. Thus the seed was planted, and Jesse’s dream was born into reality.
The band works hard to honor Steely Dan… playing their music the way that it should be played, by musicians who are masterful in their craft and share a deep love and respect for the music. With three vocalists, four horns and a full rhythm section, they deliver the experience any true Dan fan craves – THE live Steely Dan concert that you’d expect to see when Walter Becker and Donald Fagen were in their prime.
Steely Dan’s live shows would often have funkier, re-harmonized arrangements of their studio tracks. Dirty Logic uses some of these arrangements, and also comes up with some of their own – delivering so much more than just simple covers of the studio tracks. So, while you can expect to hear accurate renditions of the studio recordings and solos that fans know and love, the band also incorporates improvisation providing that live moments are truly alive, and ensuring that each show is a refreshing experience. Their song book currently includes tracks from Aja, Gaucho, The Royal Scam, Pretzel Logic, Can’t Buy A Thrill, Countdown to Ecstasy, Katy Lied and the FM soundtrack.
Dirty Logic’s members are involved in other national and regional projects such as Yo Mama’s Big Fat Booty Band, Empire Strikes Brass, Grammy Award Winning Secret Agent 23 Skidoo, The Travers Brothership, The Business, Jesse Barry and the Jam, Off With Your Radiohead, The Billy Sea, The Juan Benevides Group, Chicago Afrobeat, Mucca Pazza, James Brown Dance Party, A Family Affair, Orange Crush, Larke, Fathead, and The Legendary Tues Night House Band

More than a quarter of Americans have chronic pain symptoms lasting for months or years, and over half of these adults do not feel their pain is well-controlled. More of these individuals are turning to yoga to help manage their symptoms. Whether it’s chronic low back pain, fibromyalgia, or headaches, the experience of pain can profoundly impact quality of life. Yoga and related practices offer amazing tools to address these issues. Offering the latest evidence based interventions from fields such as yoga, mindfulness, physical therapy, acupressure, nutrition, and health psychology, this weekend will radically expand your ability to manage chronic pain. Whether you or a family member suffers from chronic pain or you’d like to expand your skill set in helping these individuals, this weekend promises to be an endeavor into self-care that is well worth your time.

For three days only Sow True Seed will be hosting a bare root plant sale at 243 Haywood St. We’ll have a great range of woodland medicinals, berry bushes and small pollinator trees to help kick start your perennial gardens this year.
As if that wasn’t exciting enough, Sow True Seed has launched a non-profit foundation called The Utopian Seed Project. The purpose of The Utopian Seed Project is to experiment, educate and celebrate diversity in food and farming in order to improve food security and mitigate climate change through a diverse and regenerative food system.
We’ll be sharing more information about this organization as the year progress, but what you need to know right now is that ALL of the profits from this bare root plant sale will go directly to supporting The Utopian Seed Project.
Be sure to SAVE the DATE and SHARE with FRIENDS, because you don’t want to miss out on this once a year event! RSVP’ing via Eventbrite is optional, but does help us get prepared for the event.
