Join a guided exploration stroll along the projected Oklawaha Greenway extension into a greenspace area being developed as a future park. Already graced with ponds teaming with wildlife, healthy trees, and pollinator-friendly meadows, the future greenspace will be introduced.   

The event is scheduled for Sunday, November 5, at 2 p.m.  Mark Stierwalt, Hendersonville’s Public Works Superintendent, will lead the 90-minute walk, showcasing the City’s planned extension of Oklawaha Greenway along North Main toward a new greenspace bordered by Clear Creek.  Space is limited for the approximately two-mile trek.  Reservations must be made by Friday, November 3, by phoning Mac Brackett at 828-243-8117.  Details will be provided.  The walk, which is sponsored by Hendersonville Tree Board, is open to the public at no charge.

“The City has received several grants to build and design this projected route,” Stierwalt said.  “It will add approximately two miles to the Greenway, connecting it from the end of Oklawaha Greenway at Balfour Road to a greenspace along Clear Creek and Allen Branch.  We’re creating a plan for the new area, but this is a chance to get an early peak at the project.”

The proposed new park, an 18-acre site at the confluence of Clear Creek and Mud Creek, is already is a well-groomed natural habitat that has been undisturbed for some time.  Waterfowl, birds, and other wildlife are there, as well as a healthy stand of trees and open meadows providing a haven for nature. The City is currently taking citizen input on the types of uses preferred for new and current parks and greenspaces.

Hendersonville Tree Board, sponsor of this educational event, is commissioned by the City of Hendersonville to provide advice on the selection and care of trees and shrubs.  The Tree Board also educates the public concerning the economic and aesthetic benefits of trees and shrubs for the community.  The Arbor Day Foundation has recognized Hendersonville as a Tree City USA for 30 years and the City has earned a Growth Award each year because of its high level of tree care.  The city also became a Bee City USA in 2015.

THEO VON grew up in the stray animal belt of southern Louisiana. He was a child there and became an adult slowly there.

He can be seen and heard weekly on his widely popular podcasts that garner millions of listens/views a month THIS PAST WEEKEND, and KING AND THE STING.

Theo’s new comedy special REGULAR PEOPLE was filmed at the historic Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, TN and is now streaming on Netflix.

In the Spring of 2020 Theo completed his two-year DARK ARTS TOUR, which took him across America, Australia, and Europe, and another country. He’s currently on the road with his RETURN OF THE RAT TOUR.

A storytelling show about the audience, The Campfireball is created spontaneously out of whatever stories and lives happen to be gathered together at that moment in time. Workshopped and developed over two years in the master’s program for storytelling at East Tennessee State University and showcased in this year’s Asheville Fringe Festival, host Cory Howard blends intimacy and absurdity in an effort to shepherd the audience through unique yet reverent ways of drawing out their life experiences. Never possible to know what’s coming next, each Campfireball slowly begins to reveal surprises, connections, and communitas as the space transforms from a room of strangers to a room of neighbors. Worth noting, some people think the premise of The Campfireball sounds “like their worst nightmare”, but participation is never required, the show is just as much fun to sit back and watch unfold as it is to play along, so don’t be afraid to take a risk! Despite being perhaps the palest person from nearly uninhabitable Florida, Dan has managed to stay alive long enough to create comedy videos that have been featured on shows such as The Joe Rogan Experience, the popular internet sketch group Friday Beers and recently in the upcoming feature length film Dumb Money starring Seth Rogen and Pete Davidson. In 2020 Dan established himself as one of the top up and coming young stand up comedians in the country, earning the opportunity to open for Tim Dillon on a national sold-out tour. Now he regularly tours the country performing at clubs and colleges headlining his own shows. When he’s not on the road, Dan performs on a nightly basis at comedy clubs in his new home of New York City.
