The Romance Book Club is a space to celebrate love in literature. Whether it’s set in early 1800s London, a distant planet years into the future, a fantasy world of magic, or our own contemporary universe, we are here for the stories that end with a happily-ever-after (or at least a happily-for-now). Puptart is a tail wagging robot dog who sits and stays, pants when listening, and responds to someone talking to and petting it. It will not jump up or run away, plus it’s fur free, so no sneezes and runny noses coming your way!
Every Wednesday afternoon, Puptart will be available for reading practice in the children’s picture book room. Help establish a joy of reading and develop early literacy skills. Sign up at the front desk, pick a book and practice reading for up to 15 minutes.

Author Erin James will present “Unsettling Fire: Narrative and Emotion in the Anthropocene” as part of UNC Asheville’s Critical Perspective Series at 7 p.m. on Thursday, November 30 in Highsmith Student Union, rooms 225 & 226.
James is author of Narrative in the Anthropocene, which argues that a richer understanding of the forms and functions of narrative in the Anthropocene provides us with invaluable insights into how stories shape our world. Her talk draws from recent work that she has done with The Confluence Lab, an interdisciplinary team that uses the tools of the humanities and the arts—especially those related to storytelling, representation, emotions, and communication—to study environmental issues impacting rural communities. In particular, she’ll discuss the personal experience narratives of “frontliners” in the Pacific Northwest who have had to escape wildfire quickly, and what those stories can teach us about fire, stories, and our relationships to both.

This year, homes and businesses across the county are festively decorated, and welcome visitors to view their holiday displays. Follow the trail for a fun evening with your loved ones, driving to view the best lights the area has to offer. There is no competition here, just a bunch of people who love this time of year! This self-guided tour is free, a suggested route will be available here on December 1st. (Please note, many of the Downtown Hendersonville locations are best viewed by foot. Additionally, some displays may be up beyond December 26th.)
Any and all local homes and businesses are invited to register to be on this year’s trail (registration closes 11/30). Register here.
