During their recent visit, students were transported into the vibrant world of art, exploring diverse exhibitions that span decades and cultures. The Museum’s thoughtfully curated exhibitions became a canvas for their imagination. Witnessing the awe in their eyes as they encountered the beauty of creativity was a testament to the lasting impact of your generosity.
The following message was forwarded to the Museum’s Learning and Engagement department by Jennifer Riels, an educator and parent. “Our class of 10th grade students came to the Museum on Monday, October 30. It was wonderful. I can’t remember the name of the man who led our tour, but he did a phenomenal job asking questions and connecting the art to math. We enjoyed our visit and are grateful for the opportunity that the Asheville Art Museum provided our students!”

This is an opportunity for small business owners in Western North Carolina to come together during the Holiday season and sell their products. Come celebrate the BRAWL-idays with some action-packed ROLLER DERBY! This will be a DOUBLE HEADER: two games for the price of one! First, there will be a newer-skater game: Blue Ridge Roller Derby vs. The World. Then, THE SWARM will go up against the COPPERHEAD OUTLAWS in a fight for the 2023 CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE. The French Broad River Garden Club’s Annual Holiday Greens Market has been a tradition in Western North Carolina for nearly 100 years. This one-of-a-kind event features unique, handmade goods that are hand-crafted by regional artists – perfect for holiday gift-giving and home decorating. All of the greenery sold at the market has been harvested using accepted conservation principles.
This year, we are excited to host 35 vendors offering a wide variety of items including pottery, paintings and prints, jewelry, turned wood, soaps and botanical oils, blacksmith artistry, hand-crafted nutcrackers, greenery, flowers and bulbs, wreaths, garland, table centerpieces, ornaments, planters, letterpress greeting cards, cutting boards, nuts and jellies, honey, vinegars and dressings, homemade baked goods, and chocolate!
Influenced by the Club’s mission of environmental and horticultural education and practices, the Greens Market fulfills its mission by promoting conservation and sustainable use of natural resources in Western North Carolina. Proceeds from the Holiday Greens Market support local scholarships in horticultural and environmental studies. Please join us on Dec 2nd and 3rd in supporting a great cause!

From Heart To Table: MANNA Foodbank:
From now until December 10th, Cellarest Beer Project will donate $1 for every pour of Forbidden, a rice lager collaboration with Hi-Wire Brewing. Please visit their taproom at 395 Haywood Rd in West Asheville to enjoy a unique brew and help the community while you’re at it.
From now until January 2, more than 40 beautiful Christmas trees will be on display at shops and businesses throughout the Swannanoa Valley, as part of the Swannanoa Valley Christian Ministry (SVCM) ‘Deck the Trees’ fundraiser. The largest display will be at the Monte Vista Hotel, 308 West State Street, in Black Mountain. The trees have been creatively decorated by individuals, organizations and businesses in the community, around this year’s theme, “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree.” Each tree has a collection box beside it, and you can “vote” for your favorite trees by placing money or a check in the box.
All proceeds from Deck the Trees benefit the SVCM Fuel Fund. With the rising cost of electricity, oil, natural gas, propane and wood, many of our neighbors can’t afford to heat their homes during the cold winter months, and the Fuel Fund is there to help. Since its inception in 2011, Deck the Trees has raised more than $250,000 for the fuel fund. Participating in this annual fundraiser is a way to give back to the community, while enjoying a beautiful holiday display.
To visit the trees in person, look for a Deck the Trees logo in the windows of participating stores and businesses. You can also download a list of tree locations, or see photos of the trees and vote online, at svcmblackmountain.org/deckthetrees.

Bargain Hendo Thrift Store will be permanently closing its doors on December 13th.
• WNCSource operates the small thrift store which is located on the corner of King Street
and 2nd Avenue in Hendersonville.
• Bargain Hendo first opened in December of 2020 and was meant to support the programs
and services WNCSource provides in 4 western North Carolina Counties. Unfortunately,
low sales and competition from other local thrift stores has made the store less than
profitable.
• But don’t worry, starting Thursday, November 2nd, Bargain Hendo will be open
Wednesdays through Fridays 10AM to 4PM and Saturdays from 10AM to 2PM with some
incredible bargains and sales to clear the shelves.
• Bargain Hendo’s last day is December 13th
