The Arts Build Community Grant has supported arts-based community projects for underserved communities since 2018. Grants range from $1,000-$2,500, with priority given to projects based in low-income neighborhoods and communities in need. Funds may be used to cover costs including art supplies, professional artists’ fees, travel, space rental, advertising, marketing and publicity, website and electronic media, props, music, and equipment rental. Do you love fishing? Are you new to it or curious about learning how? Come fishing with Chimney Rock Park Rangers on Lake Lure at Morse Park and learn how to tie knots, cast, and start fishing. Please note that we are limited to loaner 20 poles. Feel free to bring your own tackle and poles as long as it is in good working order.
Meet at Morse Park in Lake Lure. Parking available at the Lake Lure Marina and public parking in Lake Lure. Admission to the Chimney Rock State Park is not required for this event.

In 2014, a group of Vietnam combat veterans began meeting at the Charles George VA Hospital in Asheville to participate in a unique creative writing program. The focus was capturing their stories through essays and poetry to find the voices war had taken from them. The hope was to reclaim a sense of their shared humanity, build camaraderie and find some degree of healing.
To continue this work, the NC Veterans Writing Alliance Foundation will be offering free creative writing classes at the East Asheville Library in June and July. The goal is to provide healing through the art of creative writing to all veterans in our community.
Join other veterans for this series of classes on Tuesdays at 4:30 p.m. from June 11-July 30 at the East Asheville library. To sign up, please e-mail Ron Toler at [email protected].

The Artist Support Grant supports emerging and established artists taking the next steps in their career, with grants ranging from $500-$3,000. Funded by the North Carolina Arts Council, this regional grant program supports artists in creating work, improving business operations, or bringing work to new audiences. Region 17 is led by Haywood County Arts Council and supports artists in Buncombe, Haywood, Henderson, Polk, Rutherford, and Transylvania counties. The application cycle opens late July and closes in early September.

Come celebrate World Ranger Day and meet a Chimney Rock State Park Ranger and learn about what a day on the job looks like at this touch-a-truck style station in the top parking lot. World Ranger Day is celebrated worldwide on July 31st to commemorate Rangers killed or injured in the line of duty and to celebrate the work Rangers do to protect the planet’s natural treasures and cultural heritage.
