You get older, you have a family, and you start to slow down—that’s how things are supposed to go, right? Not for Montreal band Corridor, who have returned on their fourth album Mimi with a sound and style that’s more widescreen and expansive than anything that’s preceded it. The follow-up to 2019’s Junior is a huge step forward for the band, as the members themselves have undergone the type of personal changes that accompany the passage of time; even as these eight songs reflect a newfound and contemplative maturity, however, Corridor are branching out more than ever with music that’s richly detailed, resulting in a record that feels like a fresh break for a band that’s already established themselves as forward-thinkers.

Klezmer Cine Concert

April 22, 2025 at 7:00 p.m.

JSCA and The Center for Jewish Studies at UNCA present the silent film The Ancient Lawwith live original music composed and performed by world-renowned klezmer violinist Alicia Svigals and celebrated silent film pianist Donald Sosin. The Ancient Law (Das alte Gesetz) is an important piece of German-Jewish cinematic history, contrasting the closed world of an Eastern European shtetl with the liberal mores of 1860s Vienna. With its historically authentic set design and ensemble of prominent actors, The Ancient Law is an outstanding example of the creativity of Jewish filmmakers in 1920s Germany. Beautifully restored by Deutsche Kinemathek, the story is reminiscent of Al Jolson’s The Jazz Singer, which was made four years later.

The film is 2 hrs, 15 min with no intermission and English subtitles. For questions and more information please email [email protected].

The Mystery Lights story begins in 2004 in the small town of Salinas, California when friends Michael Brandon and Luis Alfonso — whose shared fondness for groups like The Mc5, Velvet Underground, Dead Moon, and The Fall (to name a few) — joined forces to craft their own brand of unhinged rock and roll. From there they spent the better part of 10 years touring relentlessly before migrating to Queens, New York in 2014.

Feel the unmatched energy and passion of one of the world’s premier traditional Celtic bands, whose diverse repertoire spans the centuries with fire-driven instrumentals, original ballads and lullabies and humorous tales of life in the lowlands. Formed in 1968 at a pub in Paisley, Scotland, the versatile band turns its acoustic excitement loose with an electrifying effect — delivering “an especially eloquent mixture of the old and the new” (The New York Times).

“The music may be pure old time Celtic, but the drive and enthusiasm are akin to straight ahead rock and roll.” — Winnipeg Free Press

Hendersonville Theatre welcomes back Asheville Americana band, Amanda Anne Platt & the Honeycutters to its Hometown Sound Music Series in February. Amanda Anne Platt & The Honeycutters’ music is nuanced, bringing insight and wit to the stories Platt tells through songwriting. She has a knack for accessing a deep well of emotion and applying it to her songwriting, whether she is writing from her own experiences or immersing herself in the melody of emotions in another person’s life.

Performing along with Platt, The Honeycutters are Matt Smith (pedal steel and electric guitars), Kevin Williams (keys/vocals), Rick Cooper (bass/vocals), and Evan Martin (drums/vocals).
