Story Parlor presents Creativity Lab: a six-week exploration of the creative process, common blocks and obstacles, and ways to kickstart and sustain creative momentum.
Focused on the process and the act of doing, opposed to product or outcome, Creativity Lab explores ways to overcome fear, embrace curiosity, and channel our muse in all creative endeavors.
The six-week workshop is experiential, hands-on, and tactile. The Lab will utilize exercises to help cultivate imagination, innovation, and creativity. Each class will focus on a different part of the creativity process all while building a tool kit for dealing with obstacles in our way, creating positive habits for growth, and investigating the ways our personal narratives intersect with our work.

While this is a soft open, the park features two fenced-in play areas; one for large dogs and one for smaller pups. “We do have plans to add other amenities and water fountains,” exclaims Recreation Services Program Coordinator Mac Stanley. “People are very excited about this new opportunity. Since it was announced, we have gotten letters of support as well as many emails questioning when will the project be completed.”

Drawing is not a talent; it’s a skill anyone can learn. Whether you want to capture ideas for your next art project, take your painting to the next level, explore a new medium, or just jumpstart your creativity post-COVID, veteran instructor Terrilynn Dubreuil will teach you everything you need to get started.
You’ll begin by learning how to draw simple 2D and 3D shapes using a photograph. Next, you’ll practice drawing 3D shapes from “life objects.” Finally, you’ll play with drawing a simple still life composition.
Throughout the class, you’ll improve your ability to draw objects realistically by learning to notice, and then capture, object proportions, relationships between objects, and light on objects.
Best of all? Terrilynn’s decades-long experience teaching beginners will make your learning easy and fun! You’ll leave the class newly inspired and with the knowledge, techniques, and confidence to draw anything.
Veterans Healing Farm (VHF) is excited to announce Service Dog
Training in collaboration with the Warrior Canine Connection (WCC) of Asheville. Classes will
take place at the VHF, located at 38 Yale Rd., Hendersonville, NC from April 6 to May 26th,
weekly on Wednesdays from 2:30-4:00. There are four spots available with each veteran having
their own dog to train. “This is the first class in what we hope will be an ongoing program,” said
Al Yeck, Executive Director for the VHF.
WCC utilizes a Mission Based Trauma Recovery model to help recovering Warriors reconnect
with life, their families, their communities, and each other. Warrior trainers are taught to praise
and provide treats to their dogs when they experience a startling event, such as hearing a car
backfire. Rather than turning inward to focus on their past trauma, the trainers must get outside
of their own heads to focus on the dogs and their mission to help another Veteran. Additionally,
dogs offer opportunities for Warrior trainers – who often isolate themselves from society – to
experience positive interactions with members of the community. Their training requires
emotionally numb Warriors to demonstrate positive emotion in order to successfully teach their
dogs.

The Amazing Acro-Cats Ambush Asheville! See the only all-cat band in the world purr-form live!
The Amazing Acro-Cats are thrilled to be back on the road, bringing their unique show to Asheville, North Caroina on May 7th and May 8th.
The Amazing Acro-Cats is a troupe of rescued house cats who put on a one-of-a-kind performance for thousands of people across the United States. These talented felines roll on balls, ride skateboards, jump through hoops, and more. The grand finale of the show features Tuna and the Rock Cats, the only all-cat band in the world! The band includes Roux (guitar), Bowie (drums), and Nue (keyboard). There’s even a special guest joining in on their set – Cluck Norris, a chicken playing the tambourine and cymbal!
This two hour live purrformance is approved for all ages! While audience members marvel at the tricks these cats are able to perform, they also learn that it is possible to train a cat! Samantha Martin is Chief Executive Human of Tuna and the Rock Cats Rescue and leader of the show. Also the head of Rock Cats Rescue, she has found homes for over 325 cats and kittens. While encouraging and supporting clicker training – the fun and positive method using a clicker to train cats and other pets – the rescue also endorses responsible pet ownership in the process. Through the live shows and her rescue, Rock Cats Rescue is saving cats, one click at a time.

Have you ever wanted to create an abstract painting but weren’t sure how to start? If so, fluid art—also called [acrylic] pour painting, flow art, liquid art., etc.—might be just what you’re looking for!
Fluid art is a form of abstract art that uses acrylic paints with a runny (fluid) consistency. The paints react with each other when combined to make interesting and visually organic motifs. As the paints run amok and spill across your canvas, the possibilities are endless!
In this workshop, Dawn Barnard will show you several different ways to do acrylic pours. Then, you’ll practice the techniques, making multiple 8” x 10” abstract paintings. Finally, Dawn will demonstrate how to finish your painting with an acrylic coating.
This is a fun and easy class and is great for experimenting with color!
The Amazing Acro-Cats Ambush Asheville! See the only all-cat band in the world purr-form live!
The Amazing Acro-Cats are thrilled to be back on the road, bringing their unique show to Asheville, North Caroina on May 7th and May 8th.
The Amazing Acro-Cats is a troupe of rescued house cats who put on a one-of-a-kind performance for thousands of people across the United States. These talented felines roll on balls, ride skateboards, jump through hoops, and more. The grand finale of the show features Tuna and the Rock Cats, the only all-cat band in the world! The band includes Roux (guitar), Bowie (drums), and Nue (keyboard). There’s even a special guest joining in on their set – Cluck Norris, a chicken playing the tambourine and cymbal!
This two hour live purrformance is approved for all ages! While audience members marvel at the tricks these cats are able to perform, they also learn that it is possible to train a cat! Samantha Martin is Chief Executive Human of Tuna and the Rock Cats Rescue and leader of the show. Also the head of Rock Cats Rescue, she has found homes for over 325 cats and kittens. While encouraging and supporting clicker training – the fun and positive method using a clicker to train cats and other pets – the rescue also endorses responsible pet ownership in the process. Through the live shows and her rescue, Rock Cats Rescue is saving cats, one click at a time.

About The Amazing Acro-Cats and Tuna and the Rock Cats Rescue: The Amazing Acro-Cats was founded in 2006 by Samantha Martin and the feline star of the show, Tuna. The Acro-Cats seek to educate the public on the benefits of clicker training by entertaining audiences across the country. The Acro-Cats support the mission of Tuna and the Rock Cats Rescue by promoting animal welfare, educating audiences on feline foster and rescue, and demonstrating the benefits of clicker training.
It can be ruff out there for our canine companions, but we have pawsitively great news. Buncombe County’s first-ever dog park is now open at our Sports Park in Candler. While this is a soft open, the park features two fenced-in play areas; one for large dogs and one for smaller pups. “We do have plans to add other amenities and water fountains,” exclaims Recreation Services Program Coordinator Mac Stanley. “People are very excited about this new opportunity. Since it was announced, we have gotten letters of support as well as many emails questioning when will the project be completed.”
So join us in a round of apaws as we celebrate the opening of this new venue for hot dogs and cool people. “It’s an amazing place to bring your dog to run free without a leash and interact with other dogs,” says Stanley. “One of my favorite aspects of this new dog park is being able to cultivate a community. Hopefully, this dog park will be instrumental in connecting dogs as well as people within the community.” Paw-yeah, sounds great.

Dog park drools rules
Dogs must be:
- On a leash at all times until safely in the fenced-in dog park area
- Vaccinated, licensed, and in good health
- At least four months old to enter
- Wearing a collar with ID tags
- Under voice control of their human and not aggressive
Humans must:
- Be with dogs at all times
- Remove dogs at first sign of aggression
- Pick up poop and dispose of it in receptacles provided
- Be liable for any and all injuries caused by their dogs
Not Allowed:
- Pronged, spike or choke collars
- Aggressive dogs, aggressive humans, or dogs in heat
- Unsupervised children 12 years of age or younger
