After a year hiatus, the popular Farm Sale is back. Come out to the farm for a huge yard sale. All sorts of items await! Friday and Saturday from 8 AM-1 PM each day.
The Kiwanis Club of Black Mountain-Swannanoa is presenting its first Field of Honor®. A field of American flags dedicated to military and first responders will be flying from September 11 – September 30th at the lot between the Black Mountain United Methodist Church and Harwood Home for Funerals (200 W. State Street, Black Mountain, NC 28711). An opening ceremony will be held on Monday, September 11 at 1:00 at the field location and a closing ceremony will take place at 11:00 on September 30 to retire the flags. All funds raised by this event will be distributed to non-profit organizations and used for scholarships in the Black Mountain/Swannanoa area. This month, you can make a difference for someone needing food by enjoying a local beer! Our friends at 12 Bones Brewing and Appalachian Mountain Brewing are designating one of their delicious beers as their Pint with Purpose, where every beer sold in September helps provide FOUR MEALS we can get to our neighbors right now!
12 Bones Brewing will be donating $1 of every pint of Coastal Grandmother Kölsch, and Appalachian Mountain Brewery is donating $1 for every pint of their Spoaty Oaty Pale Ale!

Part social gathering, part fashion, part fundraiser. Come to mingle, find a new favorite outfit, and raise money for reproductive justice.
The swap takes place on Saturday, September 30 from 1-4 at Hi-Wire Brewing River Arts District. All profits from ticket sales and $1 from each flagship beer sale will be donated to Asheville’s Planned Parenthood and Mountain Area Abortion Doula Collective.

Items will be organized by feminine and masculine styles, we anticipate receiving more feminine-style clothing based on previous events. The fundraiser is open to people of all genders and sizes.
On the day of the event
Arrive to swap the shop! You can leave with 15(ish) items
We’ll swap until we run out, so come on time for the best selection!
Unswapped clothing will be donated or kept for future swaps/reuse projects
We invite you to be a part of a no-holds-barred evening of “live” lip sync performances and fun to benefit the Charles Lea Center Foundation! Our inaugural Lip Sync Battle Spartanburg raised over $400,000 for our exciting Lake Blalock project (see below)! The second annual event will build on that success and be a night to remember – Spartanburg’s own version of the American reality competition. Local talent will wow you on stage with amazing performances. Teams from local businesses and organizations will bring their best costumes and moves, set to songs they select, as they battle it out in hopes of becoming the night’s champions! Lip Sync Battle Spartanburg brings the most entertaining and unforgettable fundraising experience to the ‘Burg!!
The funds raised by this event will be used for an exciting new project – the Charles Lea Center Nature Preserve at Lake Blalock. Recognizing the invaluable advantages access to outdoor experiences offers those we serve, the CLC plans to develop a nature preserve with specific features for those with disabilities. The center was recently gifted an eight-acre parcel of land at Lake Blalock in northern Spartanburg County that provides the perfect setting for the preserve. The proposed CLC Nature Preserve will provide fully accessible trails as well as an event center, picnic tables, shelters, a boat dock with adaptive features and more, so individuals of all ages and abilities can enjoy the great outdoors. This project will greatly enhance the quality of life for people with disabilities of all ages. Funding for this project, expected to be completed in 3-5 years, will be fully independent of CLC operating and capital funds.

Jones Park Playground was a treasured community park used by families from across the city of Asheville. Unfortunately, it was removed without a replacement plan in September of 2021. Members of the community began working immediately to find a solution to get this playground rebuilt with donated funds and labor from the community. In this process the park was renamed Candace Pickens Memorial Park. Candace played in this park and brought her son to play. She was tragically killed here in 2016. October 4-8 hundreds of volunteers from neighborhoods across the city and county will be giving their time to help bring this playground back. Working side by side we are building more than just a playground, we are building community and connections that will last lifetimes.

Attention Golfers!
Please join the Housing Assistance Corporation for a day on the green to support workforce and affordable housing initiatives in Henderson County and surrounding areas.
Check-in will begin at 10:30am with a shotgun start at 11:30am
Lunch and after play snacks will be provided. Prizes will be awarded to the winners and we have a fabulous door prize raffle.
Support Asheville GreenWorks’ Urban Forestry program by planting a native Paw Paw grown in our nursery to celebrate the release of The Hop’s Paw Paw ice cream.
You’ll need a mate to pollinate! – If you don’t have a Paw Paw already planted at your home, you may want to consider purchasing 2 from us. We will choose two different genetic strains, which is needed for cross-pollination to produce fruit. Paw Paws are self-infertile, so for good fruit set, each variety must be fertilized with pollen from a different variety of Paw Paw tree.
Paw Paws are also the host plant for Zebra Swallowtail butterflies. Learn more about Paw Paws.
