Set against Tchaikovsky’s iconic score, this story of love and betrayal, features San Francisco Ballet dancers Katherine Barkman as Odette/Odile, Esteban Hernández as Prince Siegfried, and Nathaniel Remez as von Rothbart alongside International Ballet company dancers as the majestic, glimmering swans in the corps de ballet. With exquisite costumes and dramatic sets, this incredible performance is not to be missed!

Presented by the Asheville Blue Ridge Rose Society, the Annual Rose Exhibition promises to be the most spectacular exhibition of roses in Western North Carolina! Over a hundred varieties of fragrant, WNC-grown roses will be on display, including rare and beautiful blooms from some of the region’s most admired gardens, along with lovely easy-care roses perfect for your garden.

Rose experts will be available to offer helpful gardening tips and answer your questions.

Garden Jubilee, one of the largest gardening shows in Western North Carolina, will be held on Saturday, May 25 and Sunday, May 26 from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm on Memorial Day weekend. With nearly 200 plant and craft vendors lining Main Street, the Historic downtown will be transformed into a garden wonderland.

Local and regional nurseries, orchards and crafters will offer a wide variety of plants and handmade delights and gardening experts will be on hand to share the latest gardening tips and techniques.

Growing vegetables is one of the great joys in life. The feeling of child-like wonder that comes with tending and observing a patch of earth through the seasons is unparalleled. Plus the security that comes with knowing where your food comes from and being able to provide for yourself. Unfortunately, many people are discouraged from this joyful process due to fear of endless, arduous work: hours spent weeding, constantly battling pests and diseases decimating crops, and long days in the hot sun.

We have grown thousands of pounds of vegetables over the past 7 years at a variety of scales: from a humble porch tomato all the way up to 8 acres of mixed vegetables. Through our experience we’ve found that using a deep compost, no-till approach is our favorite way to produce beautiful, healthy plants while lessening the workload. We have experienced that it is entirely possible to grow an abundant garden that provides the majority (or all) of your yearly vegetables with just a few hours a week of your time.

This half day intensive geared is towards folks looking for technical knowledge and personal empowerment around gardening- for profit or at a home scale.. You’ll head home with confidence and enthusiasm to start your garden or take your current garden to the next level.

This workshop is primarily outdoors and involves walking on uneven ground as well as long periods of standing and sitting. It is not recommended as accessible for wheelchairs. Welcome to our weekly community contra dance in West Asheville!  The Monday Night Dance has been around for decades, and we are carrying the torch forward! We are a loving, kind, and safe dance community and highly encourage masking during the dance. No derogatory comments in relation to masking will be tolerated! We encourage non-maskers to mask while partnering with a dancer wearing a mask, or to at least ask if the person would like them to mask while they dance with them.

Practicalities

Time: Contra dancing 8:15–10:30pm, with a beginner lesson starting at 7:45 and a waltz session ending the evening.

Location: St. George’s Center for Art and Spirit, 1 School Rd., Asheville, NC 28806

Cost: $12–$45 sliding scale, CASH ONLY. Please pay as much as you can afford to cover the cost of the wonderful live music, the caller, sound person, rent, and other expenses! ATMs are available at banks on Patton Ave., as well as cash back options at local gas stations and grocery stores.

Requirements: Face masks and sign-in agreeing to the dance’s Safety Guidelines.

Please enter through the front red doors to the sanctuary. Extra parking available in the lots between Moore’s Foot and Ankle and St. George’s (please avoid parking in front of their practice.) This is a scent-free dance. Please bring your own water and water bottle. Beginners are encouraged to attend! Beginner-friendly dances start the contra dancing in lieu of a lesson.

Community Focus

​

The Monday Night Dance is more than just a dance; the community is deeply rooted. Folks are welcome to sell their wares, like jewelry, dance shoes, dance clothes, pottery, etc. They are also welcome to leave business cards and help wanted or work needed ads. Additionally, the Take Some Leave Some Closet is a new feature of the MND. You can take any clothes, food, produce, feminine products or first aid supplies that we have, and as you are able you can also leave some to replenish. Private times to receive from the closet can also be arranged during the week depending on to the dance organizer’s availability.

We emphasize safety here at the MND. Mask wearing is strongly encouraged, and courtesy to those choosing to mask is required. No discrimination to those wearing masks will be tolerated! In addition, this is a family and LGBTQ-friendly dance and a safe event for ALL races, ethnicities, genders, ages, shapes, and sizes. Accordingly, no discrimination, inappropriate sexually predatory behavior, racist or discriminatory comments, bullying, or verbal or physical abuse of ANY kind will be tolerated. In this introduction to planning a dye garden, you will learn about what plants to choose, growing requirements, and colors you can grow for natural dyeing. We will also talk about how to design your dye garden to make it beautiful and productive. We will have samples of fiber we have dyed and we will have a tour of the garden. We’ll send you home with a free pack of dye seeds.

Wear appropriate attire as some of this presentation will be held outside.
The talk is free, but seating is limited and registration is required.

Master Gardener volunteers will be available to answer your gardening questions and address your related concerns. Feel free to bring plant or insect samples for identification and/or problem resolution.
