The trails of Chimney Rock in the fall are amazing, but a guided hike off-the-beaten-path can lead you to places you never knew existed. Join us for this autumn adventure on one of our most popular excursions. You’ll discover seasonal changes along your trek that will introduce you to a whole new perspective of the Park. This hike is considered moderately strenuous. Space is limited for this, so book now.
Join professional photographer Buddy Morrison for an interactive session on the basics of smartphone photography. Whether you’re an Android or iPhone user, you’re sure to take away some great photo editing skills from this three-hour classroom session. Time permitting, you may embark on a quick photo-taking odyssey to various spots in the Park, so be prepared to do some moderate hiking.
Tickets for this event will be available starting August 1st. Check back after this date for online registration.

Join rangers for a trash clean-up along the National Park boundary in Gatlinburg! Trash removal is essential for keeping our wildlife wild!
Meeting Location: Gatlinburg, Tennessee
Time: 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Option: Walk with a Ranger! Take a stroll along the Gatlinburg Trail and learn all about Great Smoky Mountains National Park! The walk is an easy 4 miles roundtrip. 12:00 PM – 3:00 PM.

Join the staff of the Grandfather Mountain Stewardship Foundation and the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission for the opportunity to learn more and have fun, while earning your certification as an environmental education in North Carolina. We offer Criteria I, II and III programs.
These adult programs are free of charge, and admission to Grandfather Mountain is complimentary for those attending the course. The workshops will take place at high elevation (4,500+ feet) and will include some walking, so please bring appropriate footwear and be prepared for inclement weather. Participants are asked to bring their own lunch, but there is a restaurant on site in the park’s Nature Museum.
The participant limit for each workshop is 25 individuals. Upon registration, you will be sent detailed information on course meeting location and expectations.

Beginner’s workshop lesson at 7:30 P.M., then 8-11 P.M. Contra Dance with Country Waltzing at the break and the final dance. This is a partner dance but it’s not necessary to come with a partner. We have different live bands and callers.

Join Mrs. Claus and Santa’s elves for a holiday breakfast, Christmas crafts and a special Christmas story at 10 a.m. You’ll not only enjoy a hearty, festive breakfast, but you’ll also get to share your wish list with Mrs. Claus and learn a little more about Jolly Old St. Nick.

The second Santa’s Showdown will take place on Saturday, December 5 at Recreation Park in East Asheville. This unique 5K will pit runners representing Elves and Reindeer against each other to establish North Pole supremacy for the coming year.
Since 1997, Santa has visited Chimney Rock to train for his big night of deliveries. There’s no way Santa could make it down so many chimneys without practice. What better place to prepare and stay in shape than on one of the world’s largest chimneys at Chimney Rock State Park? Make your list and bring it to Santa and Mrs. Claus, enjoy live holiday music, hot cocoa, cookies and meet live Park animal ambassadors.

Weekly sound healing sessions are held here at Skinny Beats Sound Shop (4 Eagle St – Asheville, NC) every Saturday and Sunday at 11:00 AM. We lay yoga mats on the floor and lower the blinds to create a meditative space that helps you clear your mind and relax to our unique soundscape of crystal singing bowls, expansive gongs, handpans, didgeridoos, rainsticks, and more. We are currently limiting public sessions to 10 people. Please call for info regarding private sessions.
