Honestly, if you’d told me back in 2008 that I’d be ‘reading’ the Akashic Records for myself and others, I’d have laughed. I didn’t even know what they were, and I was never interested in being an intuitive.
However, we ALL are intuitive, and whenever I provide a reading I make it clear – I am the least important person in the room. This is all about YOU and your Divine Team (the Masters, Teachers, and Loved Ones + angels, guides, past lives, and other information) who are loving you and guiding you.

All are invited to join St. John in the Wilderness for any or all of our Lenten Series sessions, to take place each Thursday evening in Lent. The evenings each have three offerings all of which are open to the public with adults and youth most welcome. You do not have to be present for all three portions of the event to participate. Our Lenten program this year will be led by the Sisters of the Community of St. Mary. These Episcopal Nuns live at their convent in Sewanee, TN and are members of a monastic movement that goes back to 1865 when their order was started in New York. The sisters will take turns sharing with us the richness of their ancient monastic way of life. Together we will learn about their Benedictine way of living that includes prayers, work, radical hospitality, rich community, accountability, and more. While many think of monks and nuns as being something restricted to the Roman Catholic Church, the Episcopal Church has a long history of monastic life that continues to influence our churches to this day.
For the first session on March 3, we will host the Prioress of the Community of St. Mary, Sister Madeleine Mary, who will travel from Sewanee to be with us. Sister Madeleine Mary has been living in religious life for over 50 years having entered the cloister after teaching middle school in New York and spending time advocating for environmental justice issues.
In the sessions following on March 10, March 17, March 24, March 31, and April 7, we will meet in person at the Parish Hall to gather for a virtual visit with other Sisters from the Order, including Sister Hannah Winkler, who made her life profession in January 2021, and Sister Elizabeth Grace, who will share on Rule of St. Benedict’s emphasis on humility. You may also participate on Zoom for any of the sessions, but we will hope you will join us in person if you can. Click here to sign up to be emailed a Zoom link.
All are also invited to join us for Evening Prayer in the Atrium Chapel of the Parish Hall at 6:00pm on each Thursday in Lent (March 3 – April 7). Dinner follows at 6:30pm in the Parish Hall. On Friday, March 11, our partners at Appalachian Sustainable Agriculture Project (ASAP) will be hosting a CSA Fair in the YW’s Multipurpose Room from 4-7 pm. The event is free, family-friendly, and open to the public. CSA Fairs are a chance to meet local farmers and learn about CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) in your area. By joining a CSA, you get a weekly box of fresh, locally grown produce, meats, flowers, or other local products—and provide a local farmer with valuable financial support before the season starts. Talk to farmers about what products they offer, pickup locations, growing practices, and payment options.

Come lend a hand as the Elder & Sage Community Gardens prepare for their 6th gardening season. Some tasks will include: Raking and bagging leaves, laying pavers for their wheelchair accessible area, repairing garden boxes, shoveling soil, mulching beds, assembling a portable greenhouse, cleaning and organizing tools. In Western North Carolina, roses are pruned in the early spring, traditionally when the forsythia blooms. It’s the time to remove unwanted or unhealthy canes, reduce size, and shape the rose for optimal growth and health.
This in-person program will cover proper tools for pruning and tips on how to prune. A pruning demonstration will be done in the Rose Garden, and you will have the opportunity to prune as well. Please bring garden gloves and pruners, and dress appropriately for the weather. You will also have a chance to sharpen your pruners.

The Ecological Gardener-March 15, 2022. 3:00-4:30 PM ZOOM CLASS
Even the most unassuming garden is teeming with life. An ecological gardener notices the diverse interconnections of plants and animals in their landscape. During our discussion, we’ll cover the basics of ecology, plant selection for wildlife, and how to restore the ecology of your garden space.
Sheridan Samano is an award-winning teacher, biologist, and international travel guide. She has years of experience observing birds and their relationships with native plant communities in the field. For more than a decade, she taught biology at Community College of Aurora in Colorado. Since 2002 she’s taught classes highlighting Colorado’s plant and animal communities for Denver Botanic Gardens. She is also the author of Best Birding Hikes – Colorado’s Front Range.

Chris is an avid home gardener and bird watcher. He loves to travel with his family to view cultivated gardens and explore untrampled wilderness.

It’s all about moss magic! Asheville native and nationally-recognized expert on moss gardening, Annie Martin, a.k.a. Mossin’ Annie, shares her passion for mosses, blending her knowledge of bryophytes and successful gardening techniques. Annie has earned her reputation as an expert through years of personal research and experimentation with moss gardening methods.
In this presentation, you will learn the environmental advantages of eco-friendly mosses and her practical, how-to tips to create your own magic moss garden. Please note there will be NO video of this presentation for later viewing.
This class will go over principles of design that can be applied to any scale of production, from the backyard garden to the commercial farm.
We will cover aspects of design from permaculture, keyline design, and the holistic management framework.

Practical, Affordable, Accessible

We are so excited to announce that OGS is be partnering with MOTHER EARTH NEWS to jointly produce our 29th Spring Conference March 18-20, 2022 at Mars Hill University. This synergistic partnership creates a hybrid intersection of mission and values leveraging regional farm and gardening connections with powerful branding and an expanded market to cultivate food equity and diversity initiatives, self-sufficiency, health and well-being, and environmental sustainability in local communities. We look forward to being able to offer our attendees our usual favorite array of robust workshops, with an added bonus of new speakers and vendors joining the community. Both of our organizations have deep roots in the region, and this conference will allow us to leverage our relationships for the benefit of our audience.
