Developed by Fairies and dedicated volunteers, Bullington Gardens’ Fairy Trail is a whimsical treat for the young and the young at heart. Featuring charming vignettes and villages, the fairy trail will charm you with its thoughtful design, eye catching displays and secret woodland trail.

Do not move or rearrange fairy displays. The fairies are very fond of their own decorating.
Do not leave trash on the trail. Fairies do not like litter in their town.
Please ensure children and pets are supervised at all times. Dogs and loud noises can scare the fairies into hiding.

The Friends of the Enka-Candler Library Big Book Sale is back!
They’ll be hosting two days of sales from the Library community room. Stock up for summer and for the rest of the year. Plenty of deals on books you don’t want to miss from children’s books to adult, plus music, DVDs and tote bags.
All proceeds from the sale go back to the Enka-Candler Library from programs to furniture.
Join us at Eliada Home’s campus for a small group guided walking Farm Tour. Tours last approximately 1 hour. Participants will learn about outdoor and greenhouse growing practices, aquaponics, hydroponics, market gardening, corn maze production, and learn about our Animal Therapy program.
We will be meeting at the PARC building and walking to the different greenhouses, garden site, and a visit with our animals. Reservations required, tickets are $10 each visitor (to be collected at the time of the tour).
We recommend bringing the following: comfortable shoes for walking on pavement and grass, hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen. This tour is not handicap accessible and will require participants to climb stairs and walk on uneven ground.
We will begin out tour promptly at the starting time, so please arrive 5-10 min early to allow for parking and check-in. If you are running late or cannot make your tour, please email [email protected] or call #828-348-2287.
All proceeds from ticket sales from your farm tour go directly back to helping the Campus Farm Program grow more food for the children of Eliada!

Among her works are short stories, essays, poetry, numerous newspaper articles, one stage play, her story medicine novel, The Mending Time, and memoir Womaning. She earned her MFA degree at Goddard College in Vermont. Meta is a social entrepreneur, creator of Story Medicine Worldwide, a community-based healing movement. She is a performing artist, singing jazz, blues, and gospel music. She is the mother of three adult children and grandmother to three young adult grandsons. |

Participants will dive into plant propagation and production, forest stewardship and observation, and alternative & value-added products. Blazing Star Flowers, a participant in the farm business incubator at the SAHC Community Farm, still has shares available in their fresh flower CSA. The flower CSA/weekly subscription starts on June 9, and you can choose either a pre-made bouquet or loose flowers to arrange yourself. Join for just a month or for the whole season. Pick up your flowers weekly at one of four locations (South Asheville, SAHC Community Farm, River Arts District, or Weaverville), or have them delivered (for additional fee). There is time to sign up to begin your weekly flower subscription this month!

Get farm fresh local flowers every week and support local agriculture at the same time. Enjoy them yourself or give a share as a cheerful gift. Sign up for one month or the full summer season June-September. We grow over 50 species and 200 varieties of flowers to offer you a range of color, texture, and botanical interest all season long. These fresh flower bouquets add a bright spot to your home or workspace.
What’s a flower CSA membership or share? The term has been used somewhat interchangeably with flower subscription and flower subscription service. A subscription is also a weekly flower pick up or delivery but the heart of the relationship behind a CSA or Community Supported Agriculture share is one of partnership and support more than frequent customer. Each year, Asheville GreenWorks plants more than 1,000 trees as part of our commitment to restore Asheville’s tree canopy. However, we can’t do it without the help of our volunteers. Each year hundreds of tree lovers dedicate a day (or more) to potting, planting, or caring for the saplings that will keep urban Asheville cool and green now and in the future.
You are welcome to schedule a specific workday for your group or to join one of our public workdays every Tuesday from April to July from 10am-12pm. |

Farm to Table – Get Involved!
Are you interested in Local Food, or want to help build resilient systems for healthy local food supplies? The Southern Appalachian Highlands Conservancy Community Farm is looking for volunteers to aid with egg production and markets – from getting out on the farm to selling eggs and talking to folks at local tailgate markets. Volunteers who want to try their hand at farming will help with managing our flock of around 150 chickens at the SAHC Community Farm in Alexander, NC.
Volunteers will be split into three primary roles: Chicken Care Volunteers, Egg Washing Volunteers, and Farmers Market Volunteers. Volunteers for any of these three roles will make a significant difference on the farm and massively help our current farm staff! This is a great experience for those interested in farming chicken eggs or moving their bodies outdoors!
Chicken Care Volunteers will be responsible for ensuring the chickens stay healthy and happy by providing fresh food and water and harvesting freshly laid eggs.
Egg Prep Volunteers will wash the gathered eggs and prepare them for sale.
Farmers Market volunteers will take the cleaned, freshly harvested eggs and sell them at local farmer’s markets. SAHC will use money from the proceeds to aid with Community Farm initiatives.
Volunteer Shifts
Currently, we expect shifts for Chicken Care Volunteers and Egg Washing Volunteers to be either 10 am to 1 pm or 1 pm to 3 pm on Tuesdays and/or Thursdays.
Farmers Market Volunteers will be assisting at Farmers Markets either in the River Arts District on Wednesday afternoons or in Biltmore Village on Sunday afternoons.
Volunteers will receive 1-2 dozen fresh eggs for personal use after each volunteer shift.

Cy Twombly was a man obsessed with myth and history—including his own. Shuttling between stunning homes in Italy and the United States where he perfected his room-size canvases, he managed his public image carefully and rarely gave interviews.
Upon first seeing Twombly’s remarkable paintings, writer Joshua Rivkin became obsessed himself with the mysterious artist, and began chasing every lead, big or small—anything that might illuminate those works, or who Twombly really was.
Now, after unprecedented archival research and years of interviews, Rivkin has reconstructed Twombly’s life, from his time at the legendary Black Mountain College to his canonization in a 1994 MoMA retrospective; from his heady explorations of Rome in the 1950s with Robert Rauschenberg to the ongoing efforts to shape his legacy after his death.
Including previously unpublished photographs, Chalk presents a more personal and searching type of biography than we’ve ever encountered, and brings to life a more complex Twombly than we’ve ever known.

The Garden Helpline is open March 2 through October 27 in 2022.
Extension Master GardenerSM volunteers will be staffing the Helpline as indicated in the schedule below. You may send an email or leave a voicemail at any time and an Extension Master Gardener volunteer will respond during Garden Helpline hours. When emailing, please include a photo if it helps describe your garden question. Soil test kits can be picked up at the Extension office, 24/7, located in a box outside the front door.

Come join us at Bullington Gardens and find joy in flowers! Rachel Meriwether will share her experience as a flower farmer and a designer to get you started designing beautiful arrangements for your home, friends, and family. You will learn the basics of flower conditioning, balancing an arrangement with the vessel you are using, how to create different styles, and the basics of positive and negative space when designing. Please bring hand pruners if you have them, a vessel of your choice so you can bring your arrangement home (roughly the size of a quart mason jar is preferable), and any flowers of your own! Flowers will be provided but feel free to bring anything special you would like to use.
Join us in the Library community room for an informational session and Q&A with author, Jonathan Baurer.
He’ll be answering your questions and discussing his new book, Positive Parenting Solutions to Raise Highly Sensitive Children: Understanding Your Child’s Emotions and How to Respond with Radical Compassion, Love, and Confidence. Books will be available for purchase.

Bullington Gardens: Fairy Trail
Eliada Home guided walking Farm Tour
Join us on the magical Fairy Trail where your imagination is the only limit.
Developed by Fairies and dedicated volunteers, Bullington Gardens’ Fairy Trail is a whimsical treat for the young and the young at heart. Featuring charming vignettes and villages, the fairy trail will charm you with its thoughtful design, eye catching displays and secret woodland trail.
Rules of the trail:
Do not move or rearrange fairy displays. The fairies are very fond of their own decorating.
Do not leave trash on the trail. Fairies do not like litter in their town.
Please ensure children and pets are supervised at all times. Dogs and loud noises can scare the fairies into hiding.
Do not disturb wildlife or vegetation. The fairies depend on the vegetation to build their homes.
The trail is one way only. Please stay on the trail at all times.
P.S. the Fairies would like us to remind you that we are a non-profit and donations are greatly appreciated. Help us keep the fairies living in the style with which they’ve become accustomed.
Join us at Eliada Home’s campus for a small group guided walking Farm Tour. Tours last approximately 1 hour. Participants will learn about outdoor and greenhouse growing practices, aquaponics, hydroponics, market gardening, corn maze production, and learn about our Animal Therapy program.
We will be meeting at the PARC building and walking to the different greenhouses, garden site, and a visit with our animals. Reservations required, tickets are $10 each visitor (to be collected at the time of the tour).
We recommend bringing the following: comfortable shoes for walking on pavement and grass, hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen. This tour is not handicap accessible and will require participants to climb stairs and walk on uneven ground.
We will begin out tour promptly at the starting time, so please arrive 5-10 min early to allow for parking and check-in. If you are running late or cannot make your tour, please email [email protected] or call #828-348-2287.
All proceeds from ticket sales from your farm tour go directly back to helping the Campus Farm Program grow more food for the children of Eliada!
