Director Elliot Weiner seeks a cast of 7 for the Readers Theatre Showcase series production of The Outsider. This production will be performed as readers theatre – no script memorization required! – and will have two performances on the Mainstage and one at the Reuter Center at UNCA.
No previous experience required!

A Wyoming native and second-generation Japanese American, Lee Ann Roripaugh is the author of five volumes of poetry: tsunami vs. the fukushima 50 (Milkweed), Dandarians (Milkweed), On the Cusp of a Dangerous Year (Southern Illinois University Press), Year of the Snake (Southern Illinois University Press), and Beyond Heart Mountain (Penguin Books). From 2015-2019, she served as South Dakota State Poet Laureate.
This is the fourth and final event in the 2021 Visiting Writers Series presented by the UNC Asheville English Department. Additional events included A Literary Reading by poet Diamond Forde, the English Department’s University Fellow for Faculty Diversity on September 9; UNC Asheville Alumnus and Writer-in-Residence Wiley Cash’s ’00 Book Launch for When Ghosts Come Home on September 21; and, The Katherine Min Memorial Reading with UNCA Alumnus Mason Currey ’02 on October 6.

Visitors may park in faculty/staff and non-resident lots from 5:00 p.m. until 7:30 a.m., Monday through Friday, and on weekends, holidays, and campus breaks. Visitors are not permitted to park in resident student lots at any time.

This is a drive-through event on Tuesday, November 2nd at the North Carolina Arboretum, located at 100 Frederick Law Olmsted Way in Asheville.

Fairview Library Book Sale
Saturday, Nov. 6 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m.
This one-day sale of special and collectible books will be held indoors with masking required and social distancing observed. There will be a wide variety in subjects and ages of the books plus some special CDs available as well. Proceeds from the sale support family programming at the library.

The Leicester Library turns twenty this November, and we want to celebrate with you! Join us on Saturday, Nov/ 6 from 6-8 p.m. for an evening celebration of art, music, cake, and memories. Come see the wonderful community art project 20 Views of Leicester Library, featuring local artists who have shared their view of the library and what it means to them. There will also be live music, cake, and a stroll down memory lane.
We’ll also mark our birthday with a Family Fun Day on Saturday, Nov. 13 from 1-4 p.m. There will be lots of games and outside activities for all ages. The rain date for this event is Nov. 20.
There’s no registration necessary for either of these events, but masks and social distancing will be required indoors. These free events are sponsored by the Friends of Leicester Library and everyone is welcome. Please come help us celebrate this library and its wonderful community.
