Katie Oates knows how to sing. She’s been singing for as long as she can remember. The daughter of a preacher, she belted hymns from her crib as a toddler to wake up her parents. Over the years she has trained with many vocal coaches and songwriting mentors and sung a wide variety of music genres (classical, folk, music theatre, blues, jazz, country, spirituals/sacred) in diverse venues: churches, homeless shelters, theatres of all sizes, bars, festivals, conferences, house concerts and listening rooms. But finding her own voice—that’s another story.

In Katie’s 5th album (Edge of a Hurricane, 2024), she plumbed the depths of human emotion in her songwriting. She confesses: “Some songs are quite different from what people expect to hear from me—or any folk singer. I travel through anger, humor, despair, hope, sass, sincerity and everything in between. Even the most hopeful ballads on the album all emerge from a hard-fought battle with despair. Because in the end I think it’s as simple as a choice we each have to make between darkness and light. Hate seems so powerful, but all hate can do is destroy; only love can create something new. So I choose love. I hope you will, too. And maybe our small little acts will make a difference.”

Owen Walsh has been telling stories and performing music his entire life. Born and raised on the banks of the Lackawaxen River in Honesdale, Pennsylvania—a small, historic coal-mining town that spawned the American railroad—Owen grew up surrounded by relics of 19th Century American life and imagery ripe for musical exploitation.

His years of formal violin and classical guitar training, zest for informal improvisation, and love of folk-lore storytelling combine to create a unique blend of musical expression. His recently released debut album, On My Way, has been met with critical acclaim and charted at #9 on Folk Radio in the second month of its release.
Owen now lives in Asheville, NC where he performs music regularly, writes for various publications and constructs crosswords in his spare time.

Each summer, Blue Ridge Community College offers summer concerts beside the College lake as a gift to the community. These free concerts feature a wide range of musical and vocal groups. Bring a lawn chairs and picnic to enjoy the music by the lake. Organized by Blue Ridge Community College.

In the event of inclement weather, the concert will take place in the Technology, Education & Development Center (TEDC) Building.

Formed in 2014, Rumours ATL has taken the U.S. by storm with their stage scorching renditions of Fleetwood Mac songs. Fans from across the nation claim that Rumours ATL is the band to see if you are looking for an authentic recreation of live Fleetwood Mac shows.

In just under 7 years, Rumours ATL has landed themselves the reputation of being the best Fleetwood Mac Tribute band and additionally has made fans internationally. In the summer of 2019, Rumours ATL was invited to play a week in The Netherlands at some of the top venues and festivals in the country. The success of that tour brought them attention from plenty of new fans and promoters and they will be returning in 2020. Specially crafted shows and not one detail left behind, Rumours ATL continues to sell out some of the top venues in the United States and gain fans at each show.

Rumours ATL is fronted by Mekenzie Zimmerman (Stevie Nicks vocals), Adrienne Cottrell (keyboards and Christine McVie vocals), and Denny Hanson (guitar and Lindsey Buckingham vocals). John Spiegel on lead guitar, Jim Ramsdell on bass, and Daniel Morrison on drums makeup one of the best live band performances you will see at any show. The band prides themselves on being the most authentic Fleetwood Mac Tribute without coming across as a parody or a bore of a show. They will make you dance, sing along at the top of your lungs, and you’ll even learn something new about Fleetwood Mac at each performance.

Driven by DIY merit, Annapolis band, Bumpin Uglies is no stranger to the pull of the bootstrap.

Seven successful studio albums have paved the way for the awe-inspiring eighth. Underdog: The Acoustic Sessions, recorded live in studio by the band’s founder, Brandon Hardesty, showcases the songwriting prowess that has been a constant pillar of the band’s music since its inception. Consisting of 16-tracks, the LP introduces seven new songs never before heard and nine fan favorites that have been stripped down to raw, poignant, gut-punching versions that differ from the fast-paced guitar riffs, pulsing drums, and dynamic horn sections of the originals.

ABOUT ROCKSTEAD:

The feeling of love. The power of unity. The essence of happiness. The strength of togetherness and positive vibrations. The highs of living life and the lows of dealing with its obstacles. All of these things encapsulate the music of Cincinnati, OH-born Rockstead, a four-piece, passion driven rock/reggae group.

With roots leading as far back as middle school, Rockstead combines a lifetime full of influences ranging from rock, punk, reggae, jam and metal. In their early days Rockstead ruled the college party scene in Ohio with a schedule full of impromptu house shows leading to packed basements of DIY venues and later, massive crowds attending college fests such as Ohio University’s infamous spring festivals. This early success catalyzed the band’s first recordings which included “Wake Up And Live” (album, 2013), “Rise” (EP, 2014) and “Homegrown” (album, 2016). These releases ignited their inner road warrior leading to a plethora of plays at music festivals and concert venues across the Midwest. Since then, Rockstead continues to widen their reach touring throughout the Eastern U.S. and down into Florida.

Though member changes have occurred over the years, front man singer/guitarist Jake Burns continues to drive the group forward as they have shared stages with international acts such as The Wailers (Jamaica), Sticky Fingers (Australia) and Big Mountain (USA) as well as many national acts like Andy Frasco & The U.N., Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad, Badfish, Tropidelic, Little Stranger, Bumpin’ Uglies and Ballyhoo!. The band has now grown to include Nate Anuci (drums) and Stephen Woodard (bass). Rockstead dropped their first studio album “You’re In Control” in September 2020 which scored them multiple features in blogs and podcasts across the scene making them “one of the most unique and special bands in [Cincinnati]” (CincyMusic, 2020). The group continues to expand their catalog with the release of their sophomore studio album “Fall Down. Get Up. Repeat.” in February 2023 with guest appearances from TreeHouse!, The Quasi Kings and Higher Education.

By using their relentless high-energy performances and genre-bending setlists, while aligning their unwavering dedication to the do-it-yourself work ethic, Rockstead shows no sign of slowing down their mission of bringing people together through music.

2024 is the Year Of The Dragon

In 1982 John Wetton, Geoff Downes, Carl Palmer and Steve Howe became the founding fathers of super group Asia, responsible for a string of multi-million selling albums and chart-topping hits across the globe. Asia’s self-titled1982 debut album was the biggest selling album in the world. The band dominated the airwaves and for many “Heat Of The Moment”, “Only Time Will Tell” and “Sole Survivor”, amongst others, were the soundtrack to their youth. Another multi-million seller, “Alpha” followed in 1983 and in 1986 “Astra” competed the trio of MTV era hits.  Greg Lake briefly joined the band for a Japanese tour where Asia’s show from the fabled Budokan was the first inter-continental simulcast.  In 2006, the founder members reformed and released several new albums before John Wetton’s untimely passing in 2017.  Since John’s passing, Geoff and Carl have toured with Sam Coulson, Billy Sherwood, Ron Bumblefoot Thal and Steve Howe guesting, and had a tour planned with Marc Bonilla on vocal duties that did not materialize due to Covid.

In the Summer of 2023, Geoff Downes spear-headed a memorial concert to remember and celebrate the life of his late, much-loved friend and Asia co-founder member, the great John Wetton.  At the concert, he invited rock n roll veteran John Mitchell – who had played with both Wetton and Downes in Icon and in Wetton’s own band – to join him on stage, taking on lead guitar duties.  The duo were joined by new-comer Harry Whitley, who Downes had discovered and whose vocal talents so closely resembled that of Wetton’s it was nothing short of spine-tingling.  Together they played a number of Asia’s chart-topping hits.  The reception was uproarious and It became clear that something magical was happening.  Perhaps, thought Downes, it was time to bring the songs of Asia to a whole new audience? The dragon began to stir once more. Busy touring the globe, the great Carl Palmer is immersed in a project very dear to his heart, the Return Of Emerson Lake & Palmer.  The legendary Steve Howe remains at the helm of progressive rock legends, Yes.   So it was that Geoff made the decision to take a fresh, new-look Asia back out on the road, recruiting Mitchell and Whitley as new members and bringing in the drumming excellence of the incomparable Virgil Donati, who had played with Wetton in UK. Asia has entertained and delighted a multitude of audiences and millions of people over the last 40 years.  Some of the world’s greatest musicians have taken up the Asia baton during that time.  However, Geoff Downes believes that the time is right to bring a fresh, new-look Asia out into the light. The Year of the Dragon foretells good fortune, abundance and prosperity.  The Dragon blessed 1982, the year Asia was first unleashed into the world – and here we are again.  The journey has come full-circle.  Time for the dragon to take flight once more.

Witness a rare performance of Ives’s iconic sonata performed by pianist Michael Chertock. Readings that inspired Ives’s work are recited before each movement by baritone William Sharp. A discussion with the artists will take place following the concert.

Presented by Horizon Heating & Air, Rhythm & Brews Concert Series brings together live music, local craft beverages, and the community! These FREE shows take place on the third Thursday of every month from May-September, closing part of South Main Street to make room for all the fun. Local food trucks will line the street cooking delicious eats from kettle corn to pizza to barbecue. Each show begins with an opener at 5:30 p.m. followed by the headlining performance from 7:30-9:30 p.m. Doors open at 5:15 p.m.

All adult beverage sales contribute to the Friends of Downtown Hendersonville, a 501c3 nonprofit supporting the Downtown Program. Join us for a night of music, fun, and community connection! For this year’s Pritchard Park Songwriter Series, the Asheville Association is teaming up with Paloma Madre who are best known for bringing Asheville the wildly successful, international concept, Open Folk. Each week will feature two world class songwriters from our community playing introspective and honest tunes about life in the 21st century. Pritchard Park will once again be filled with the sweet sounding songs of heartbreak, true love, heavy loss, and lots and lots of goofin. It’s a guaranteed good time that won’t cost you a dime!!
