Veil Magic: A Bellydance Choreography
One of the most beloved props in the bellydance world, the veil is fun to learn and impossible to miss onstage. In this 8 week series, students will learn an intermediate level choreography to a slow and enchanting song, “Darigh Nur” by Mario Krilis. Teacher Charlotte Louise has won or played in multiple competition settings with pieces that showcase her veil skills.
Classes will be every Wednesday from February 13th-April 3rd from 6:30pm. Cost is $90. Students who are performing may be asked to attend some additional rehearsals at no cost.
To reserve your spot sign up, here: https://clients.mindbodyonline.com/classic/ws?studioid=330572&stype=-8&sView=day&sLoc=0
FAQs:
Do I need a veil?
Charlotte has veils to borrow! However, you are welcome to purchase your own veil. A 3 yard silk veil is recommended.
Will there be performance opportunities?
Yes! There will be two performance opportunities. One in Asheville at Asheville Follies, and one in Jacksonville, Florida at the River City Raqs festival. Details for both will be discussed at length. Performance is always optional and never required!
What will the costuming be?
For performances, effort will be made to keep costs low. Bellydance costumes will be worn in warm colors and students are encouraged to use what they already own.

Laurie Caffery Harris
Wednesdays 6:30-9pm
January 9- February 27
Bowls are often overlooked by potters because they are such a simple form, but they have so much potential! In this intermediate level class, we will explore bowls of all sizes and shapes on the potter’s wheel to create forms that reflect your unique style. We will also discuss and practice surface design through mishima (slip inlay), painting, and sgraffito carving. By the end of the session we will have made pieces that are not only visually interesting, but accurately represent your personal style and sensibilities.
Level: Intermediate and Advanced
Tuition: $310 + $50 Lab Fee
During this discussion we will cover the basics of Cause-Oriented Efficiency. The agenda will consist of 20-30 minute intro to how it works. Then, we’ll start using our cause which was picked in advance to start laying out potential solutions. Picking one or more solutions to take home and build cases for and against.

More about all of this can be found at my website (www.impimppoetry.com).

What do you get when you mix up a marketing genius who does video, a studio engineer who writes music, a pianist who had a successful solo career, and a cellist who does pretty much everything?
The Piano Guys became an internet sensation by way of their immensely successful series of strikingly original self-made music videos. Actually, there’s only one piano player, Jon Schmidt, and one other instrumentalist, Steven Sharp Nelson, on cello. Yet the other two – Paul Anderson and Al van der Beek – are equally significant members of the group.
It’s the Guys’ highly original blend of classical music with pop that has made them an internet phenomenon. They’ve made over 65 videos since joining forces in early 2011, including their biggest hit, an innovative 10-handed version of One Direction’s “What Makes You Beautiful.” “Code Name Vivaldi” blends The Bourne Identity soundtrack riff with a similarly intense Vivaldi cello concerto in a breathless video culminating with Schmidt and Nelson performing on a flatcar on a high-speed train. “Titanium/Pavane” is a mash-up of French classical composer Gabriel Fauré’s “Pavane” with David Guetta’s “Titanium.” Collectively, their videos have so far netted over 1.2 billion YouTube views.
The Piano Guys have performed everywhere from The Tonight Show with Jay Leno to The Today Show, and have been featured in The New York Times, Fast Company, Buzzfeed, People Magazine, and Mashable.

Free for Master Craftsmen members and one guest, $5 for Journeymen members, and $7 for Apprentice and Permit members.
Like sweet tea and boiled peanuts, Tim’s style of comedy is purely southern. You won’t hear any “might be a redneck” jokes though. Tim has a PhD – A Plain High School Diploma. Upon graduation, he left his home in Lancaster, SC and joined the Military where he served our country for 10 years. He’ll be the first to tell you that the most important battle he ever fought was the one that gave him sole custody of his son.
The two of them moved to Myrtle Beach in search of a new beginning, and what Tim found was a love for performing stand up. Honing his craft at open mic nights his comedic observations on growing up, dating and everyday life as a single dad provided him with more than enough material to win the 2010 Beach’s Best Comic Award. In just over a year’s time he has gone from an open mic night comedy hopeful to a feature comedian, entertaining audiences with his authentic southern drawl, pin-point comedic timing and clever delivery of his unique life experiences.

Adding a Southeast destination for designer toy makers and collectors, *Assembly Required brings designer, bootleg and art toy artists from around the country, to present and sell their work.
Asheville’s premiere designer toy expo, *Assembly Required, is presented by Unboxing Asheville, Morgan’s Comic’s, 103.3 Asheville FM and Appalachian Pinball Museum. Focusing on this artistic movement, designer toys are a form of lowbrow pop art. These toy makers pull inspiration from a variety of subversive segments of culture, as well as subcultural elements, including (but not limited to) comics, tattooing, street art, and everything related to toys of the 60’s through the 80’s.
Echoing production methods of traditional toy manufacturers, designer toys are usually intended to be displayed as collectibles, rather than to be played with. Toy makers mediums range from resin to vinyl, from plastic to plush; with molding, and production techniques such as kitbash, sofubi and bootleg (recently coined ‘Artisanal Action Figure’, by New York Times writer, Rich Juzwiak [11/23/18]). (https://www.nytimes.com/2018/11/23/style/bootleg-toys-action-figures.html).
Juzwiak interviews such artists as the Sucklord and Killer Bootlegs, both of whom will be present at *Assembly Required.

Given the vital importance of soil to our hobby and avocation, it is amazing that most
gardeners don’t venture beyond the understanding that good soil supports plant life and poor soil doesn’t. You’ve undoubtedly seen worms in good soil and have come across other soil life: centipedes, springtails, ants, slugs, ladybird beetle larvae, and more. Healthy soil, however, is not just a few animals. Healthy soil is absolutely teeming with life.
This presentation focuses on all the forms of life found in healthy soil and how we can use this information to improve our gardening techniques.
The talk is free but registration is requested by calling 828-255-5522.
The calendar says winter, but did you know that spring is just a few months away? There’s no time like the present to get prepared for the future – a future in bright colors, shorts and dresses, and blouses and short-sleeved shirts. It’s even better when you can save A LOT.
Head out to the Little Red Schoolhouse, located behind the Original Mast Store in Valle Crucis, to stock up on shorts, shirts, and more for Spring Break and all the other warmer days to come.
Here’s the full scoop:
• Salesman Samples are 70% OFF (limited sizes)
• Other apparel is an Additional 20% OFF the last red-lined price
• Shoes are priced as marked
**Size runs may not be available in all merchandise. Selection includes items for men and women.**
The Schoolhouse is open Monday – Saturday 10 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. and Sunday noon until 6 p.m.
