Could you be a Voice for a Child?
A Guardian ad Litem (GAL) advocate is a trained community volunteer who is appointed, along with a Guardian ad Litem attorney, by a district court judge to investigate and determine the needs of abused and neglected children petitioned into the court system by the Department of Social Services. Their role is mandated by North Carolina General Statute 7B-601. Throughout North Carolina, the Guardian ad Litem Program seeks to serve the best interests of thousands of children who find themselves the subjects of court cases by assigning them Guardian ad Litem volunteers. Our program exists in every county throughout the state, and with the help of more than 5,300 volunteers, we serve more than 18,000 children a year.
The GAL volunteer’s primary responsibilities include:

Digging for details in the case
Collaborating with other participants in the case
Recommending what’s best for a child by writing court reports
Empowering the child’s voice
Staying vigilant by constantly monitoring the case
Keeping all information confidential
The main qualification for becoming a GAL is to have a sincere concern for the well-being of children. There are no education or experience requirements.

Welcome to Redneck Rodeos, Western North Carolina’s premiere rodeo promoter! NABA producer of the year. Promoter of the NABA finals in Memphis, SRA finals in Asheville, RMEF PBR event in Asheville and BULLMANIA in Asheville.

Hendersonville Racquet Club is offering several levels of pickleball training starting February 22^nd.  Try Pickleball is a five week series of classes for adult beginner pickleball players. Pickleball 201 is a four week class for 2.5 to 3.0 level players who want to improve.  Pickleball 301 is a four week class for 3.0 to 3.5 level players.

All classes are taught by HRC Pickleball Pros.  Try Pickleball starts February 28^th on either Tuesdays 2-3 or Fridays 6-7. The cost is $120 for the five weeks and includes five hours of instruction, a Paddletek pickleball paddle and a pickleball.  Pickleball 201 and 301 start February 22^nd Wednesdays at 1pm and 2:30pm, respectively.  The cost is $80 for HRC members and $120 for nonmembers.

“Pickleball is the latest racquet sport craze. It combines elements of several racquet sports including: tennis, ping pong and badminton. It intensifies hand coordination and increases volley abilities. ALL WHILE HAVING FUN!” stated Certified Pickleball Professional Cre Still.

Hendersonville Racquet Club is a six acre complex that includes 5 dedicated outdoor pickleball courts, 6 outdoor tennis courts, 3 indoor tennis courts, four racquetball courts, an outdoor swimming pool, fitness center, group fitness room and outdoor leisure area by Shaw’s Creek and pond.

April 4-13, 2023 Want to learn from farmers and food activists about Cuba’s transition to agroecological farming practices and its national policies that prioritize sustainable farming and hunger remediation? This is your opportunity to join our 9-day tour of Cuba’s sustainable farms! On our tour, we visit with farmers, NGOs, policymakers, and experts to learn about the history of Cuba, their transition to organic agriculture, and ongoing initiatives to support farmers and expand agroecological practices.

Summer Day Camp is a great option for kids ages 9-17 with any skill level to learn and practice on the iconic rivers and lakes of Western North Carolina. Paddlers from beginner to advanced will receive high-quality instruction from our elite team while having fun and making friends.
