The French Broad River Garden Club Foundation presents its 95th Annual Holiday Greens Market. This one-of-a-kind, historic event features unique, handcrafted works by regional artists including wreaths, centerpieces, pottery, ornaments, jewelery and many more items. It is a unique experience offering many options for holiday gift-giving and home decorating.
Join us for a two day hand made craft extravaganza! Our talented volunteers (Elves) have been busy creating unique holiday decor perfect for holiday gifts or to treat yourself.
Join Kelly to wrap up the 2022 Gardening Series with you. As a follow up of October’s “Putting the Garden to Bed for Winter” Class, Kelly will open the floor to the class’s reflections of growing this past fall. She will answer your winter garden questions, winter goals, and support you in lifting the winter blues through preparation of your plans for your 2023 garden. This event will include hot chocolate and cider for participants.
The upcoming Journeyperson course is now available AT NO COST! Due to some timely grant funding, we can offer this in-depth farmer training for farmers in years 3-7 with no associated tuition fee! The course consists of monthly cohort meet-ups and 2-3 in-depth workshops, plus mentorship!
In addition, a select number of participants will also receive matched FUNDS for your farm savings account (Savings Incentive Program) and money to spend on a professional development opportunity of your choosing! Want to attend a workshop on livestock management? OGS will contribute towards that fee! Are you saving money for a farm asset? OGS will contribute up to a certain amount to that investment.
The Journeyperson Program is for farmers who have been independently farming for three or more years and are serious about operating farm businesses in the Southern Appalachian region.

The Asheville Art Museum is entering a new chapter. When organizations are healthy and strong, they can look to the future. Therefore, the Museum is focusing on what steps it should take to better serve our community. One recent stride was the addition of an Online Collection database to our website. Since its launch in October, more than 1,500 searchable objects have been digitized and uploaded out of our growing Collection of 7,500-plus artworks. The goal is to enable interested patrons, scholars, curators, artists, and educators worldwide to learn about the Museum’s holdings, whether they are on view or not, and to make the Collection accessible to more of the general community from the comfort of their homes. We know virtual learning is here to stay, and families and students of all ages can use the database for exploration and learning from anywhere with an internet connection! Christopher Whitten, associate registrar for the Museum, speaks more about the project:
“I think there’s this constant wonder among patrons about what is in the vault or behind doors. The online database allows us to share a significant portion of the Collection on a global scale. Often, there are inquiries by researchers into which artists we have. Others ask about potential gifting of more artworks by a current artist, or even by a new artist that would be a good fit within the Collection. The Online Collection gives a new, deeper Museum experience to visitors. With three-dimension artworks, we’re able to feature more than one view, allowing visitors to see the objects from multiple angles.
“For many of the artists, we’ve included updated biographies, including where they were educated and/or taught. Keywords help visitors find artworks associated with a certain subject. For example, when one types in the word dog, it will pull artworks not only with the word in their titles, but also ones in which the descriptive field mentions the word dog.
“Another great thing about clicking on an object record is getting to know its dimensions—information that’s not included on museum labels. Families and donors can search and find out what items were gifted to the Museum, and by whom. Our goal is to have the entire Collection accessible online soon. We’ll be adding large groups of objects every quarter, with the next round starting in January.”

You’re in for a fun-filled weekend of learning and community building. This year our Tracks include Cooking, Food Justice, Farming Business + Production, Herbs, Mushrooms, Forest Farming, Gardening, Holistic Forestry, Livestock & Poultry, Living on the Land, Permaculture, Pests & Pollinators, Soils, & Sustainable Living!For each Track subject, there are 4 different classes to choose from taught by expert educators. There will also be 8 half-day workshops to choose from if you want to dive deep into subjects like Fermentation, Spirulina Cultivation, Invasive Vine Basketry, and more!

Sliding Scale Pricing for Spring Conference
OGS is implementing a Sliding Scale Price model for 2023
So many things are means-tested in our society, and it can be exhausting to justify why one needs a more affordable price point. The sliding scale model, which allows participants to select a price to pay for their ticket, meets several of the parameters we were looking for in an accessible pricing model.
While many of our community members need financial support, some of these community members have more than enough to share and are excited about supporting their fellow co-learners. These attendees can select the higher end of the sliding scale, which will be set at a price to offset the lower price paid by other attendees. We trust our attendees to select the option that best works for them while also considering how their selection would affect the ability of other participants to access a lower price point.
Accessibility is a priority for OGS, and implementing it is a risk for us as a small non-profit, given that we rely on our large events like the Spring Conference to support our year-round programming and staff salaries. This will certainly be an experimental year, and if we cannot secure enough income through sliding-scale registrations, we will have to rethink our approach to pricing. We trust that our community will be thoughtful in thinking about the value this conference has for them and what they can pay for at this time.

Join in the Holly Jolly cheer with a community Sing-A-Long, where Lauren Davis of @fiddyshadesofgreen and the rest of the Farm Fam will get together to sing Christmas classics! Mr. Boujee Bear may make an appearance and we’ll also have that 4:20 Burndown at 2:40 that the Hurricane cancelled.
Almost Madi will be joining us to play gentle tunes as you peruse our wonderful line-up of craft vendors, which will include artisan food vendors like Brew Naturals (y’all…that elderberry is amazing) and Planet Kitchen, as well as beautiful jewelry, amazing art, glass blowers, ceramics, and of course a wide selection (and maybe even a few special drops) of green goodness from Appalachian Standard!

Time for another Asheville Drag Brunch on Sunday December 11th at the Grey Eagle. Tickets start at $25 and include admission, brunch, drag show, and a donation to the local non-profit organization Loving Food Resources.
The Grey Eagle boasts a full-service bar and brunch. The family-friendly drag queen entertainment promises to be sing-along top-notch fun with plenty of laughter and audience interaction. The show includes performances by an all-star cast of professional drag queens.

The upcoming Journeyperson course is now available AT NO COST! Due to some timely grant funding, we can offer this in-depth farmer training for farmers in years 3-7 with no associated tuition fee! The course consists of monthly cohort meet-ups and 2-3 in-depth workshops, plus mentorship!
In addition, a select number of participants will also receive matched FUNDS for your farm savings account (Savings Incentive Program) and money to spend on a professional development opportunity of your choosing! Want to attend a workshop on livestock management? OGS will contribute towards that fee! Are you saving money for a farm asset? OGS will contribute up to a certain amount to that investment.
The Journeyperson Program is for farmers who have been independently farming for three or more years and are serious about operating farm businesses in the Southern Appalachian region.

You’re in for a fun-filled weekend of learning and community building. This year our Tracks include Cooking, Food Justice, Farming Business + Production, Herbs, Mushrooms, Forest Farming, Gardening, Holistic Forestry, Livestock & Poultry, Living on the Land, Permaculture, Pests & Pollinators, Soils, & Sustainable Living!For each Track subject, there are 4 different classes to choose from taught by expert educators. There will also be 8 half-day workshops to choose from if you want to dive deep into subjects like Fermentation, Spirulina Cultivation, Invasive Vine Basketry, and more!

Sliding Scale Pricing for Spring Conference
OGS is implementing a Sliding Scale Price model for 2023
So many things are means-tested in our society, and it can be exhausting to justify why one needs a more affordable price point. The sliding scale model, which allows participants to select a price to pay for their ticket, meets several of the parameters we were looking for in an accessible pricing model.
While many of our community members need financial support, some of these community members have more than enough to share and are excited about supporting their fellow co-learners. These attendees can select the higher end of the sliding scale, which will be set at a price to offset the lower price paid by other attendees. We trust our attendees to select the option that best works for them while also considering how their selection would affect the ability of other participants to access a lower price point.
Accessibility is a priority for OGS, and implementing it is a risk for us as a small non-profit, given that we rely on our large events like the Spring Conference to support our year-round programming and staff salaries. This will certainly be an experimental year, and if we cannot secure enough income through sliding-scale registrations, we will have to rethink our approach to pricing. We’ll hear end of year remarks from Bob Phillips, Common Cause NC Executive Director, and have experts on hand to answer one-on-one questions. We’ll also be discussing our team’s incredible growth this year and welcome our newest board member, Bill Sederburg. We’ll close the night out with a raffle for a first edition, signed copy of John Gardner’s Citizen Action and How it Works: In Common Cause (1972).

Join us for the LAST Thunderstruck Coffee Porter Release Party! Our partners at Highland Brewing Company are retiring the Thunderstruck brew and will send it off with a special retirement party. As with all of Highland Brewing Company’s seasonal releases, a dollar from every pint of Thunderstruck poured at the Taproom on Friday will go to benefit Southern Appalachian Highlands Conservancy.
