Created by ceramic artists Trish Salmon and Crystal Allen, Earth Skin includes wall structures and pieces designed for mantles, shelves and tables. All works are available for purchase and a portion of the sales will be donated to The North Carolina Arboretum Society.
About the Artists
Trish Salmon
Trish has been studying clay for many years through the various classes available to her when she lived in the Atlanta area. Taking classes at Penland was a life changing experience and a turning point in her desire to become a studio ceramicist. She and her husband moved to Western North Carolina in 2007, and she has pursued her claywork full time after her career as a kitchen designer. Immediately after retirement, she enrolled in Haywood Community College’s Professional Crafts Program in clay where she received her Associate’s Degree in 2014. She currently is a member of the Odyssey Coop Gallery in the River Arts District in Asheville, NC. She is also a founding member of Artisans on Main in downtown Weaverville where her studio is and where her work is primarily displayed.
Crystal Allen
Before discovering ceramics, Crystal earned a degree in Graphic Art and Design. She has also taught calligraphy, dabbled in watercolors and and learned how to felt, dye and spin natural fibers from her own llamas and sheep. Most recently, Crystal completed the Professional Crafts: Clay Associates degree at Haywood Community College. Her pottery is primarily functional, with altered or hand built additions. Her pieces are produced in her studio, one of her favorite places on earth!

The 30th anniversary season of Downtown After 5, presented by Prestige Subaru, kicks off Friday, May 18 from 5-9pm. Downtown After 5 takes place the 3rd Friday of the month May – September and is held on North Lexington Avenue. Events are free and open to the public.

SHUTTLES: PLEASE DON’T DRINK AND DRIVE. Really, we can’t stress this enough, if you overindulge, leave your car or bike overnight and come back for it the next day. Take the free shuttle or a taxi; you’ll make some new friends and keep everyone safe. We also created these great options for you:
1. ASHEVILLE FREE SHUTTLE – Shuttles are continuously looping, taking off at 11:30 am from the A-B Tech Community College – 340 Victoria Rd. Asheville, NC 28801. Use parking lot B-7 in front of the Dogwood Building. Free overnight parking is included. 2. HENDERSONVILLE FREE SHUTTLE – Shuttles are continuously looping taking off at 11:30 am from the Courthouse Annex Parking Lot adjacent to Fourth Avenue and Grove Street.
3. PARKING OR TAXI – Complimentary parking available at the WNC Agricultural Center located two miles from the brewery. Shuttles will run continuously 11:30 am – 5 pm. Free overnight parking is included. All taxi/Uber/personal car pick-up will be at the WNC Ag Center.

You loved Beatles music when you were a kid. Now YOUR kids have a chance to experience the magic of the Beatles LIVE in concert. On the afternoon of Saturday June 16 at The Orange Peel, Abbey Road LIVE! will be playing a special all-ages family matinee show.
Abbey Road LIVE! is well known in the Southeast for their energetic concerts at clubs, theaters and festivals. This time, the focus will be on the kids. Expect fun classics such as “Octopus’ Garden”, “Yellow Submarine”, and “Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds”. Does your child have a a favorite Beatles tune? Abbey Road LIVE! loves to take requests, and has often been known to invite kids on stage to sing along.

Got lots of creativity? Tons of ideas for things to make? Then this is the camp for you! Sara will be your guide into the colorful world of cool shapes, funky patterns, and sweet designs in clay. Lots of hands-on time means plenty of opportunity to bring your imagination to life. This camp will focus on designing sculptures, wall pieces, and collages, and will feature a chance to work on the potter’s wheel.

This camp will focus on getting students comfortable on using the wheel while having the creative freedom to turn their pots into fun characters along the way! Come celebrate National Pollinator Week with us! We’ll have something for everyone – gardeners, children, nature enthusiasts, plant geeks, and friends of bees. Activities include crafts, a speaker, bee identification, and information tables. We’ll also have free milkweed seeds while supplies last. Our garden feeds the bees with almost 50 native flowering species. How many will be in bloom when you visit?
