When reflecting on the current state of the environment, it seems that we have entered into times of seismic sorrows. Carbon emissions, water pollution, fracking, and changing climate patterns all point to a troubling reality with serious consequences for human and non-human populations. Through weavings, installations, sculpture, and print, artists Rena Detrixhe and Tali Weinberg (Tulsa, OK) explore the complex relationship between humans and the planet, offering insights, expressing grief, and creating space for resilience and change.
In Time of Seismic Sorrows is curated by Marilyn Zapf and organized by the Center for Craft. The Center for Craft is supported in part by the N.C. Arts Council, a division of the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources.

Chihuly at Biltmore represents the first art exhibition in Biltmore’s historic gardens, and the first garden exhibition of Dale Chihuly’s works in North Carolina. The world-renowned American artist’s work is included in more than 200 museum collections worldwide, and now, for a limited time only, they can be seen at Biltmore.
We invite you to immerse yourself in this unique visual experience, an absolute must-see presentation of unparalleled artistic expression.
Dazzling in daylight, the exhibition takes on an entirely new dimension when viewed after nightfall; experience the brilliance and beauty of these awe-inspiring marvels of color, form, and light.

Each Tuesday and Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m., April through October, trained volunteer guides lead small groups of participants along woodland trails and through a variety of forest types. Depending on the season, topics of discussion include wildflowers, plant and tree identification, natural history, and the cultural and land use history of The North Carolina Arboretum. Guides may include areas such as the Natural Garden Trail and Bent Creek.
Programs are held rain or shine and participants should dress appropriately for the weather. Individuals should also wear sturdy shoes and bring water. Walks last 1.5- 2.5 hours, depending upon the interest of the group, and are approximately one to two miles in length. Walks begin in the Baker Exhibit Center Lobby and space is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Groups of five or more are required to pre-register by calling 828-665-2492. Walks are FREE, however, donations to The North Carolina Arboretum Society are appreciated. Regular parking fees apply. Arboretum Society Members always park free.

Michael Gerhardt presents Impeachment: What Everyone Needs to Know
Impeachment: What Everyone Needs to Know(R) is the step back and deep reflection on the law of impeachment that everyone needs now. Written in an accessible and lively question-and-answer format, it offers a timely explanation of the impeachment process from its very meaning to its role in politics today.
The book defines the scope of impeachable offenses, and how the Constitution provides alternative procedures and sanctions for addressing misconduct in office. It explains why the only two presidential impeachments, those of Andrew Johnson and Bill Clinton, failed to lead to conviction, and how the impeachments of federal judges illuminate the law and politics of the process.
As a legal expert and the only joint witness in the impeachment proceedings against President Clinton, author Michael J. Gerhardt also explores a question frequently asked-will Donald Trump be impeached? This book does not take a side in the debate over the possible impeachment of the president; instead, it is a primer for anyone eager to learn about impeachment’s origins, practices, limitations, and alternatives.
This book is available for purchase in-store, by phone, or online by visiting https://www.malaprops.com/book/9780190903657
We ask that you purchase the books you want to be signed at our events from Malaprop’s. When you do this you are not only supporting the work it takes to run an events program, you are also telling the publishers that they should keep sending authors here.
Can’t make it to the store for the event? Call us or order the book on our website in advance, and we’ll get it signed for you. Make sure you write your preferences in the comments if you purchase online.

Ladies!! Join us for our Fifth SHE-Jitsu class! If you have had the opportunity to make it to the past classes then you know how much fun we’ve been having. Make sure to join us and bring your friends… spread the word!!
Summer Allison will be guest coaching this month! We are very excited to have her joining us. Here’s a little blurb about why she does BJJ …
“I have been training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for a little over 3 years. It has taught me how to be strong, courageous but also how to stay humble. My coaches Jason Bebber and Derek TC Richardson have helped paved the way for an amazing journey. I love competing and have plans to start back strong very soon after a long break! Fenix Jiu Jitsu and Leadership MMA are my homes and the bond I have with my team is unlike any other! Jiu Jitsu is truly for everyone and that’s why it is so special!”
If this is your first time joining us here’s a little info on what SHE-Jitsu is all about and what the class may look like:
Hey ladies that have ever wanted to try Brazilian Jiu Jitsu or wondered what is jiu jitsu, but might be too timid to try it or ask about it. Sometimes jiu jitsu can be unapproachable/intimidating for women because it is a male dominated sport and the thought of rolling around with a bunch of dudes you don’t even know is a little daunting for some of us, others of us worry about getting hurt and don’t want to expose our vulnerability to the opposite sex in that way, some of just don’t really know what it is, but see it and are intrigued. Well, if any of these sound like you then this ALL women’s class is for you.
This event is FREE to ANY woman. Tell your friends… bring your friends. Come give it a try.
The event will be an hour and half. The first 20 to 30 minutes will be a solid warm up followed by and 45 minutes of instruction. Summer will be leading us instruction this class. She will begin with the very basics and breakdown each move, not only in movement, but also the “why”. We will then finish off the class with applying the technique with each other.
How to be the most prepared for class…
1. Wear a shirt with sleeves.
2. Long pants are best but shorts work too.
3. Remove all dangling jewelry (earrings that aren’t studs and necklaces), watches, and bracelets. Also, glasses and hats or any bulky head wear.
Looking forward to seeing you in the fifth class in the SHE-jitsu series!

The Mutt returns to Hendo – outdoor show if the weather is nice!!
Originally formed in 2010, in the Blue Ridge Mountains near Asheville, NC, Circus Mutt draws from a spectrum of musical influences including rock-n-roll, jazz and bluegrass. The band cut their teeth on the road, touring literally non-stop from 2011-2016. Breweries, festivals, bars and thousands of miles of highway have been the proving ground for this group of blue-collar musicians. Circus Mutt has woven a unique blend of American sounds on their new studio album, “Old Dogs & New Tricks.” Live Mutt performances vary from solo/duo shows, to full-blown, 6 piece band extravaganzas. They are known for their gentlemanly manners and the good natured tail-waggin’ that comes naturally to every friendly mutt you know. Wherever they are, it is sure to be a circus and you are surely welcome.

Root into the grounding energy of autumn — and into the profound relaxation of yoga enhanced by the magic of vibrational sound.
This special evening blends soothing movement sequences and deeply restful restorative poses with the sounds of crystal bowls and the sacred resonance of the gong, long recognized as an instrument of healing.
Paige Gilchrist’s warm and welcoming style will invite you to release stress and tension and cultivate peace and joy you can take with you back into the world. Her popular restorative and slow flow classes weave together physical postures, breathing techniques, and mindfulness practices aimed at helping students feel more grounded, relaxed, rejuvenated, and at ease.
Joy Yackley is an educator, certified Kundalini Yoga instructor, and lover of the gong, mountains, and sea. She facilitates Kundalini Yoga classes, gong meditations, and sound immersions in Florida and North Carolina. Joy’s gentle nature and reverence for the yogic lineages helps guide others into their deep heart space.
