Ivy Rowe November 6 & 7

A one woman show starring Barbara Bates Smith

Barbara Bates Smith returns to the HART stage with Ivy Rowe, a play about the passionate life of a spunky mountain woman that has been getting rave reviews since its 1989 debut. Barbara, with the help of co-writer Mark Hunter, transformed the novel Fair and Tender Ladies by prize-winning North Carolina novelist Lee Smith into a rare and heartfelt performance that pays tribute to the women of Appalachia. With a sensuous nature and a flair for storytelling, Ivy paints a vivid picture of 20th Century revivals, mine disasters, rural electrification, the Depression, and three wars. With over 700 performances of Ivy Rowe from Broadway to down south, Barbara Bates Smith is a Western North Carolina treasure that we are thrilled to host again!
