Oakley United Methodist Church, 607 Fairview Road in Asheville
A feast for the eyes as well as the ears, the highly decorated instruments of Joachim Tielke will be featured on this concert of virtuoso viola da gamba duos from 18th-century Germany.
Asheville Baroque Concerts’ artistic director Gail Ann Schroeder, and Annalisa Pappano from Cincinnati’s Catacoustic Consort, will be joined by harpsichordist Barbara Weiss to perform this exciting program of works by Johannes Schenck, Johan Gottlieb Graun and Christoph Schaffrath.

Come downtown in the calm of a Monday evening, enjoy a glass of wine with snacks and incredible art before the concert (doors open at 6:45). Iconic harpist Jacquelyn Bartlett and flutist Kate Steinbeck combine their expressive music mastery to create a program of sweeping sensations with music by GF Handel, Osvaldo LaCerda, Henk Badings, Dana Wilson and Witold Lutoslawski. Bassoonist Rosalind Buda will join in trios by Adrienne Albert and Andre Jolivet.

The 30th anniversary season of Downtown After 5, presented by Prestige Subaru, kicks off Friday, May 18 from 5-9pm. Downtown After 5 takes place the 3rd Friday of the month May – September and is held on North Lexington Avenue. Events are free and open to the public.

MusicWorks Asheville and the African Percussion Ensemble from the Asheville Symphony Youth Orchestra and Mars Hill University will present “Sounds of Unity,” a fundraising concert on Friday, May 25 at 6 PM at Trinity United Methodist Church (587 Haywood Rd, Asheville, NC). Students will perform a variety of music, including music by Dvorak, Vince Gassi, and music from The Greatest Showman.

Creating a modern-day version of an American rock-n-roll album is no easy task in today’s world of ProTools and multiple producers, but Awolnation were up to challenge when the multi-platinum rock act set out to record their third studio album. Released February 2, 2018, Here Come the Runts(Red Bull Records) sees founding member Aaron Bruno once again at the helm producing, writing and recording. “With this record I really wanted to make a rock n’ roll/pop album,” says Bruno. “And I say ‘pop’ how I grew up listening to it, in the sense of Dire Straits or Born In The U.S.A or The Cars or Tom Petty.”
