RETOOLNC Grant Program Third Round of Funding

The North Carolina Department of Administration’s Office for Historically Underutilized Businesses (HUB) has opened applications for grant funds for certified HUBs and disadvantaged business enterprise (DBE) firms impacted by COVID-19.

The RETOOLNC program awards up to $25,000 to eligible certified small, underutilized businesses to help with pandemic recovery efforts.

To qualify for RETOOLNC funds, North Carolina businesses must:

Have been in operation since February 2019
Be certified with NCHUB or NCDOT DBE
Be an independent business located within North Carolina
Be a business with 50 employees or fewer (includes sole proprietorships, home based businesses, and independent contractors)
Not have annual revenues exceeding $1,500,000
Not be delinquent on North Carolina State income taxes
Not have any active bankruptcies or tax liens
Be a for-profit business
Be an independent franchisor and locally owned, if it is a franchise
Provide a detailed statement of how the business has been impacted due to COVID-19
Be engaged in legal activity

The second phase of Neighborhood Matching Grants will open for applications on June 20, bringing City investments into Asheville’s neighborhoods.

The Neighborhood Matching Grant program was created in 2021 with three main goals:

Build neighborhood capacity and increase civic participation;
Empower neighborhoods to self-determine improvement projects; and
Create and strengthen partnerships between the City and community groups

The first phase, launched in October 2021, funded projects in 14 neighborhoods that ranged from community garden education, to block parties, to sidewalk repairs and fence beautification.

Applications for this year’s program will be accepted from June 20 to July 29, 2022. Neighborhood organizations can apply for up to $5,000 in funds which they will then match through volunteer time, fundraising and in-kind donations.

“This program brings people together,” says Kristina Israel, Community Engagement Manager with the City’s Communication and Public Engagement Department. “We’ve seen residents collaborating to dream up, design and create projects that solve problems and make their neighborhoods more livable. I encourage anyone who is interested to find out more and talk to their neighbors about the program.”

Occur within Asheville’s city limits
Provide a public benefit and be accessible to all members of the community

The Pisgah Astronomical Research Institute

PARI’s summer STEM and space camp programming is designed to inspire your young scientist’s curiosity, passion, and confidence to discover something extraordinary. We give campers experiences that encourage deeper thinking and problem solving skills while finding opportunities for comradery, adventure, and fun in the incredible Pisgah Forest region.

Our Mission Control camps provide simulated missions that cover the many topics and skills necessary for a successful exploration of world beyond our own. We’ll use the same kinds of processes that NASA, SpaceX and others use in developing and conducting journeys into space. These missions teach teamwork and STEM principles while giving campers fun and exciting experiences. The camp is an immersive journey amidst our historic campus which played a critical role in the first space race, and will help poise your camper for a role in the next.

Teams will research real technologies and techniques to build and launch a spacecraft, set science and research goals, and ensure everything needed is sent along. They will also need to choose a crew and care for their health and well-being, perform outreach and gain public support, and navigate funding and political challenges.

PARI’s research based camps are aimed at the camper who wants to experience what its like to be a researcher in astronomy, astrophysics, and astrobiology. Scientists and researchers with careers in space science lead this academically challenging curriculum that has been refined for nearly two decades.

Camps begin with an intense first few days of introductions to the instruments, science, and math needed to conduct research. They’ll be guided through choosing a research goal from the menu investigations we believe they can successfully conduct with radio and optical telescopes, and vast archives, provided by PARI and its partners.

The importance of both individual and team based work is emphasized while campers are guided through the research process. They’ll learn to share their progress and conclusions in the same ways expected in journals and at astronomical conferences.

For auditions for Hamlet, the submission deadline is 11:59pm Saturday, June 25th, 2022. Callbacks will be held in person on Saturday & Sunday, July 2nd and 3rd, from 10am to 4pm. Callback location is TBD. The director will contact each pre-selected actor with specific times.

Hamlet will be performed Fridays through Sundays, September 23rd – October 22nd at 7:30 pm.

FILMING INSTRUCTIONS

Please audition for whatever character you are most interested in! Record a 90-second video of yourself reading a Shakespeare monologue that fits the characters you’d like to be considered for – you can do so on your phone.

If possible, please film in Landscape mode, framing yourself from the waist up if able, with a neutral background. Make sure you’re well lit so that we can see your lovely face! (These are not hard and fast rules, just ideal circumstances.)

Please name your video with your name, not the default title; ex. “Smith, John Video”

The director will review each application and video, and will contact prospective actors for callbacks.

Important: This season, the Montford Park Players will require that all persons involved with any show must be fully vaccinated, or present a request for exemption, stating the reasons. The Executive Director, in consultation with the director, will make the final decision on the selection or non-selection of any person who is not fully vaccinated.

French Broad River Park: Go to the parking lot off of Riverview Drive, which is off of Amboy Rd. Find the cobalt blue canopy tent!

We will be as close to as directly across the parking lot as we can, near the water, with the tent (go past the bathrooms and head to the water). So, you should be able to find us pretty easily if it’s your first time).

We’ll enjoy meditations/visualizations, psychic ability empowerment, chakra activations, and lively discussions about how we can participate in the evolution of the new earth… a world where truth and the ethos of love (e.g.: Law of One) are the guiding forces.

All who are interested in spiritual growth and evolution and getting to know others who are “on their wavelength” are welcome.

NOTE: Bring a chair, pillow, or towel to sit on, an open mind, and energies of love, receptivity, and curiosity.

GRANT: Betty Taylor Memorial Award for Emerging Artists in Visual Arts and Crafts

Betty Taylor Memorial Award

for Emerging Artists in Visual Arts and Crafts

Betty Taylor took her first art lesson at the tender age of eight, and her love of the Arts stayed with her throughout her life. Betty spent most of her career in Michigan where her work was handled by galleries. It was there that she personally experienced and understood the struggles, persistence, and need for assistance as an emerging artist.

After Betty’s death in 1990, her husband, Ross Taylor, established the Betty Taylor Memorial Fund with Community Foundation of Henderson County to promote and support emerging artists who have financial need and are studying in the field of visual arts and crafts. It is the Foundation’s pleasure to keep the memory and spirit of Betty Taylor alive with the award.

Purpose
To promote emerging artists who are in need of financial support and are studying in the field of visual arts and crafts.

The Betty Taylor Memorial Award is funded by Community Foundation of Henderson County, working in tandem with the Arts Council of Henderson County. Applicants for the Arts Council’s Artists Support Grant program will be eligible for consideration to receive the Betty Taylor Memorial Fund award.

Eligibility

Individual artists and small, unincorporated groups of collaborating artists

Applicants may be either emerging artists or established artists and should possess a strong record of artistic accomplishment appropriate to the stage of the applicant’s career

The applicant must reside or work in Henderson, Polk or Transylvania counties for a minimum of one year prior to April 2022.

Applicant may not be a board or staff member of any of the sponsoring entities. In addition, the applicant may not be a spouse, family member, or significant other of a board or staff member of any of the sponsoring entities.

Applicants must be 18 years of age and not be enrolled in a degree or certificate program

Previous Taylor Award recipients are not eligible

Each member of a small unincorporated group of collaborating artists must meet the eligibility requirements and shall not circumvent these requirements by applying for what is really a collaborative effort.

Projects
The Betty Taylor Memorial Award is designed to award projects that will advance the applicant’s career as an emerging artist in the field of visual arts and crafts. The relationship of the project to the career advancement of the applicant must be clearly defined in the “Narrative” section of the application. Conducting deeper study is a key element to the Taylor Award, and the applicant will need to elaborate on study method, mentoring, apprenticeships, etc.

Create and strengthen partnerships between the City and community groups

The first phase, launched in October 2021, funded projects in 14 neighborhoods that ranged from community garden education, to block parties, to sidewalk repairs and fence beautification.

Applications for this year’s program will be accepted from June 20 to July 29, 2022. Neighborhood organizations can apply for up to $5,000 in funds which they will then match through volunteer time, fundraising and in-kind donations.

“This program brings people together,” says Kristina Israel, Community Engagement Manager with the City’s Communication and Public Engagement Department. “We’ve seen residents collaborating to dream up, design and create projects that solve problems and make their neighborhoods more livable. I encourage anyone who is interested to find out more and talk to their neighbors about the program.”

Any project that is submitted must meet the following criteria:

Be achievable within 12 months on contract execution
Occur within Asheville’s city limits
Provide a public benefit and be accessible to all members of the community
Be planned, organized and implemented by community members
Must provide a dollar-for-dollar match (cash, volunteer hours, in-kind donation of goods or services)

The Pisgah Astronomical Research Institute

PARI’s summer STEM and space camp programming is designed to inspire your young scientist’s curiosity, passion, and confidence to discover something extraordinary. We give campers experiences that encourage deeper thinking and problem solving skills while finding opportunities for comradery, adventure, and fun in the incredible Pisgah Forest region.

Our Mission Control camps provide simulated missions that cover the many topics and skills necessary for a successful exploration of world beyond our own. We’ll use the same kinds of processes that NASA, SpaceX and others use in developing and conducting journeys into space. These missions teach teamwork and STEM principles while giving campers fun and exciting experiences. The camp is an immersive journey amidst our historic campus which played a critical role in the first space race, and will help poise your camper for a role in the next.

Teams will research real technologies and techniques to build and launch a spacecraft, set science and research goals, and ensure everything needed is sent along. They will also need to choose a crew and care for their health and well-being, perform outreach and gain public support, and navigate funding and political challenges.

PARI’s research based camps are aimed at the camper who wants to experience what its like to be a researcher in astronomy, astrophysics, and astrobiology. Scientists and researchers with careers in space science lead this academically challenging curriculum that has been refined for nearly two decades.

Camps begin with an intense first few days of introductions to the instruments, science, and math needed to conduct research. They’ll be guided through choosing a research goal from the menu investigations we believe they can successfully conduct with radio and optical telescopes, and vast archives, provided by PARI and its partners.

The importance of both individual and team based work is emphasized while campers are guided through the research process. They’ll learn to share their progress and conclusions in the same ways expected in journals and at astronomical conferences.

RETOOLNC Grant Program Third Round of Funding

The North Carolina Department of Administration’s Office for Historically Underutilized Businesses (HUB) has opened applications for grant funds for certified HUBs and disadvantaged business enterprise (DBE) firms impacted by COVID-19.

The RETOOLNC program awards up to $25,000 to eligible certified small, underutilized businesses to help with pandemic recovery efforts.

To qualify for RETOOLNC funds, North Carolina businesses must:

Have been in operation since February 2019
Be certified with NCHUB or NCDOT DBE
Be an independent business located within North Carolina
Be a business with 50 employees or fewer (includes sole proprietorships, home based businesses, and independent contractors)
Not have annual revenues exceeding $1,500,000
Not be delinquent on North Carolina State income taxes
Not have any active bankruptcies or tax liens
Be a for-profit business
Be an independent franchisor and locally owned, if it is a franchise
Provide a detailed statement of how the business has been impacted due to COVID-19
Be engaged in legal activity

Betty Taylor Memorial Award

for Emerging Artists in Visual Arts and Crafts

Betty Taylor took her first art lesson at the tender age of eight, and her love of the Arts stayed with her throughout her life. Betty spent most of her career in Michigan where her work was handled by galleries. It was there that she personally experienced and understood the struggles, persistence, and need for assistance as an emerging artist.

After Betty’s death in 1990, her husband, Ross Taylor, established the Betty Taylor Memorial Fund with Community Foundation of Henderson County to promote and support emerging artists who have financial need and are studying in the field of visual arts and crafts. It is the Foundation’s pleasure to keep the memory and spirit of Betty Taylor alive with the award.

Purpose
To promote emerging artists who are in need of financial support and are studying in the field of visual arts and crafts.

The Betty Taylor Memorial Award is funded by Community Foundation of Henderson County, working in tandem with the Arts Council of Henderson County. Applicants for the Arts Council’s Artists Support Grant program will be eligible for consideration to receive the Betty Taylor Memorial Fund award.

Eligibility

Individual artists and small, unincorporated groups of collaborating artists

Applicants may be either emerging artists or established artists and should possess a strong record of artistic accomplishment appropriate to the stage of the applicant’s career

The applicant must reside or work in Henderson, Polk or Transylvania counties for a minimum of one year prior to April 2022.

Applicant may not be a board or staff member of any of the sponsoring entities. In addition, the applicant may not be a spouse, family member, or significant other of a board or staff member of any of the sponsoring entities.

Applicants must be 18 years of age and not be enrolled in a degree or certificate program

Previous Taylor Award recipients are not eligible

Each member of a small unincorporated group of collaborating artists must meet the eligibility requirements and shall not circumvent these requirements by applying for what is really a collaborative effort.

Projects
The Betty Taylor Memorial Award is designed to award projects that will advance the applicant’s career as an emerging artist in the field of visual arts and crafts. The relationship of the project to the career advancement of the applicant must be clearly defined in the “Narrative” section of the application. Conducting deeper study is a key element to the Taylor Award, and the applicant will need to elaborate on study method, mentoring, apprenticeships, etc.

Eliada Home guided walking Farm Tour

Join us at Eliada Home’s campus for a small group guided walking Farm Tour. Tours last approximately 1 hour. Participants will learn about outdoor and greenhouse growing practices, aquaponics, hydroponics, market gardening, corn maze production, and learn about our Animal Therapy program.

We will be meeting at the PARC building and walking to the different greenhouses, garden site, and a visit with our animals. Reservations required, tickets are $10 each visitor (to be collected at the time of the tour).

We recommend bringing the following: comfortable shoes for walking on pavement and grass, hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen. This tour is not handicap accessible and will require participants to climb stairs and walk on uneven ground.

We will begin out tour promptly at the starting time, so please arrive 5-10 min early to allow for parking and check-in. If you are running late or cannot make your tour, please email [email protected] or call #828-348-2287.

All proceeds from ticket sales from your farm tour go directly back to helping the Campus Farm Program grow more food for the children of Eliada!
