TFAC invites all artists: painters, sculptors, writers, performers & more — to a casual weekly drop-in gathering on Saturday mornings at 9 AM to share your works in progress, alert others, and chat about art and what’s happening in your community. The first weekly Coffee is Saturday, August 20 at 9 am. No RSVP needed, just drop by! Free parking available on Melrose Avenue, behind and alongside TFAC.

Jazz Sunday at One World Brewing West is a modern jazz jam held every Sunday afternoon from 1-4pm. Previously known as Jazz Monday, the jam has been running non stop since July, 2018 at the West Asheville brewery and is hosted weekly by The Fully Vaccinated Jazz Trio, consisting of Ray Ring on guitar, Jason DeCristofaro on drums, piano and vibraphone, and Connor Law on bass. Jazz Sunday typically features a guest artist for a short set and then welcomes jazz musicians of all levels to sit in for the remainder of the afternoon on One World’s spacious outdoor stage.

White Horse’s legendary Open Mic re-starts after a year off for bad behavior (COVID, really). Host Bill Altork will help us present wonderfully talented folks on their way up. The signup sheet is placed on the bar at 6:30 and the first ten to sign in are the performers for the evening. Each gets 15 minutes or three songs. It’s a lot of fun… especially since it’s free!

We’ll be following all COVID-19 protocols and we ask that you wear your mask when you’re not singing or enjoying a beverage from the bar.

Join us for a weekly mountain music JAM with players in a round, where the session is focused on regional fiddle tunes and songs! You are welcome to come and listen or to learn and join in. This event supports the Henderson County Junior Appalachian Musician (JAM) Kids Program. Free but donations are accepted. Weekly event takes place at Oklawaha Brewing Company.

Deering Banjos named her their Goodtime Ambassador, and Janet Deering describes her banjo playing as giving her “chills.” Equally versatile on guitar, fiddle, and 8 other instruments, Mary is known internationally for her lightning- fast fingers, haunting vocals, and intricate story songs. As a high-energy performer that thrives on variety and as a songwriter that chooses unusual subject matters, anything from ghost pirates to demon guitars could romp through a Mean Mary show.

Mean Mary will be joined onstage by her brother, Frank James, and will travel the genres of roots, bluegrass, blues, and folk rock with unprecedented (and unpredictable) ease. She promises an intimate and fun preview of songs from her new and upcoming albums, Portrait of a Woman Part 1 & 2, plus a lot of her old favorites as well.

BYRDS OF A FEATHER

After a 2-year forced hiatus, the Byrds of a Feather tribute to Gene Clack & Gram Parsons is back at the Grey Eagle celebrating its 12th annual show! This year will spotlight the 50th anniversary of Gram’s solo debut album ‘GP’ and some of the ones we missed in ’20 and ’21 like ‘Gene Clark’ (aka White Light) and the Flying Burrito Brothers’ 2nd album ‘Burrito Deluxe’.

The band will feature members of Asheville’s classic country crew CyndiLou & the Want To, Claude Coleman Jr (Ween) on drums, Marty Lewis (Sons of Ralph) on guitars, John McKinney (Carpal Tullar) on keyboards, Drayton Aldridge (Drayton & the Dreamboats) on fiddle and more! Special guests include Morgan Geer (Drunken Prayer), Liliana Hudgens, Chris Mondia (The Green Fields), Claire Whall and others.

Queen Bee and the Honey Lovers present their annual Holiday Concert.

The Holiday season is also the season for jazz! Come hear Queen Bee and the Honeylovers perform your favorite classic tunes with a sprinkling of original compositions!

Queen Bee and the Honeylovers is classic swing band based in Asheville, NC. Their music takes inspiration from the hot club and small combo sounds of the 1930’s and 40’s. They were voted #1 in Jazz in the Mountain Xpress “Best Of” poll in 2020 and 2021. Their debut album, ‘Asheville’, celebrated their hometown’s history and won them #41 on WNCW’s listener-voted poll of Best Albums of 2019 as well as features on The State of Things with Frank Stasio and PBS Woodsongs. Their video for “Beacham’s Curve” won Best Soundtack at the 2019 Music Video Asheville Awards. Vocal-driven with an infectious groove, the Honeylovers are guaranteed to put a grin on your face and a tap in your toes.
