Sweet Dreams, Full Plates Third Annual Campaign September

Asheville’s hospitality industry is proving sweet dreams can truly turn into full plates.

This September, over 45 hotels are coming together for the third annual Sweet Dreams, Full Plates campaign – a major collaboration aimed at connecting Asheville area’s thriving tourism industry to local hunger relief issues.

The idea is simple. Hotel guests, during the month of September, are given the opportunity to forgo stayover services by hanging a door hanger on their room door. The door hanger says, “We Fed A Family,” and for every room that chooses to participate, the hotel makes a $2 donation on their behalf.

With each $2 donation, MANNA FoodBank is able to provide enough food for seven meals.

Walk to End Alzheimer’s

It’s been a little over a year since my sweet BB passed away and we as a family are all doing OK but the grief at times is unbearable.

I would imagine there are those that wonder why I continue to support the walk. My support for the walk and its fundraising was never about saving BB from the ravages of the disease. Once you are diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, it’s pretty much a death sentence. My support and fundraising efforts to find a cure is with the sincere hope that my children and grandchildren and your children and grandchildren will not suffer from this horrible disease. Great strides are being made in research and I am convinced we will find a cure.

Memorymoog Plus Synthesizer Raffle Bob Moog Foundation

Bob Moog Foundation announces its fall raffle featuring a coveted, fully restored vintage Memorymoog Plus synthesizer, formerly owned, played, and signed by Dr. Fink of The Revolution. The Memorymoog was part of The Revolution’s touring rig on the Purple Rain, Around the World in a Day, and Parade tours.

Funds raised from the raffle will be used to expand the Foundation’s hallmark educational project, Dr. Bob’s SoundSchool, currently inspiring over 3,000 elementary school students per year through the science of sound. The raffle will also help support the Foundation’s newest project, the Moogseum, an immersive, experiential facility that brings Bob Moog’s legacy and the science of sound and synthesis alive for people of all ages. The newly opened Moogseum is located in downtown Asheville, NC.

MANNA’s 18th annual Empty Bowls Fundraiser

Today in Western North Carolina, 1 in 6 people and 1 in 4 children is facing an empty bowl.
You can help fill it—at MANNA FoodBank’s 18th annual Empty Bowls!

Empty Bowls is a unique and memorable event that celebrates community, art, and collaboration, while bringing awareness to the very real problem of hunger in Western North Carolina.

Guests select a bowl hand-made by local artisans and enjoy a seasonal meal of delicious soups, breads, desserts, and coffee. To complement the experience, local musicians provide fabulous live music. The souvenir bowl guests take home reminds them of the many WNC families that are currently struggling with hunger.

Almost every part of the event is donated, including the event space, food, beverages, and local pottery and art. This allows MANNA to use event proceeds for our food distribution and nutrition programs, which serve the more than 100,000 food-insecure households across our 16-county service area. Every dollar raised can help provide food for 3.5 meals!

Adult Ticket: $40 (includes a meal and a souvenir bowl handmade by a local artist)
Child Ticket, ages 12 and under: $10 (includes a meal and a souvenir kid’s bowl)

The South Carolina Botanical Garden Fall Plant Sale

The South Carolina Botanical Garden Fall Plant Sale will be 2-6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27, and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28. The Friday sale will be open just to members of Friends of the Garden. Memberships are available at gate or skip the line and join online at https://cualumni.clemson.edu/give/scbg. The Saturday sale will be open to the public.

The S.C. Botanical Gardens fall plant sale will be Sept. 27-28.

Join Dogwood Alliance on Friday, September 27th for our annual Woods & Wilds Storytelling Event at The Mothlight in Asheville from 7-10pm. This year’s theme is “When the woods saved us and Why it’s dire to save them.” The evening will feature local storytellers as they share their stories of the wild! Join us as we celebrate 23 years of standing with the people and forests of the South!

Featuring Live Storytelling By: Nicole Townsend, Cortina Jenelle, Isa Abdul-Halim Whitaker, Indy Srinath, Ali McGhee, and more!

Asheville’s hospitality industry is proving sweet dreams can truly turn into full plates.

This September, over 45 hotels are coming together for the third annual Sweet Dreams, Full Plates campaign – a major collaboration aimed at connecting Asheville area’s thriving tourism industry to local hunger relief issues.

The idea is simple. Hotel guests, during the month of September, are given the opportunity to forgo stayover services by hanging a door hanger on their room door. The door hanger says, “We Fed A Family,” and for every room that chooses to participate, the hotel makes a $2 donation on their behalf.

With each $2 donation, MANNA FoodBank is able to provide enough food for seven meals.

The South Carolina Botanical Garden Fall Plant Sale will be 2-6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27, and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28. The Friday sale will be open just to members of Friends of the Garden. Memberships are available at gate or skip the line and join online at https://cualumni.clemson.edu/give/scbg. The Saturday sale will be open to the public.

The S.C. Botanical Gardens fall plant sale will be Sept. 27-28.

Since March of 2017 the Wands for Wildlife program has grown and spread all over the world! Engaging people of all ages and from all walks of life to take action, help the planet and save wild lives.
One Wander (wand donor) from Poland shared, “I am so happy that good people still exist in the world.”
From a Preschool teacher in Illinois, “I was unsure if my preschoolers would understand conservation and pollution, but starting with taking care of animals was the perfect way to start the unit since it was a more concrete idea and something they had prior knowledge about.”

This is the primary fundraising event for the Woodfin Greenway & Blueway Project, and it’s sure to be a good time! There will be a raffle of amazing prizes donated by a variety of local businesses, live music, food and beverages, and informational presentations given by key project stakeholders.
All proceeds from the event will support the project mission of creating new parks and expanding greenway access in the Woodfin area.
