Or try your hand at axe throwing while you enjoy the mystical battle music of Chris Welsh and his Sun and Moon Dance band. Beginning in January 2024, ASAP (Appalachian
Sustainable Agriculture Project) will partner with Blue Ridge Women in Agriculture and MountainWise
to expand Double SNAP for Fruits and Vegetables programs to more farmers markets, farmstands,
and groceries in Western North Carolina. This group has established the WNC Double SNAP Network
in order to bring together existing programs and expand to new sites, making SNAP incentives more
accessible throughout the region.
SNAP programs that center local food and farms can significantly improve individual and community
health. They make fresh fruits and vegetables more accessible, keep food dollars in the local
economy, and connect participants with positive food and social environments in their communities.
“ASAP, Mountainwise, and Blue Ridge Women in Agriculture currently operate successful SNAP
incentive programs at 26 sites, which connect participants with fresh food and farms in their
communities,” said Mike McCreary, ASAP’s Farmers Market Program Manager. “By combining efforts
and resources, we’ll not only be able to deepen the impact of our existing programs, but also create
adaptive programs that meet the needs of communities that don’t currently have access.”
The first phase of the project focuses on strengthening existing programs across sites operating
January through March, including:

This winter and spring join us for an introduction to pollinators presented by Bee City USA Asheville. Pollinators are under threat, but there’s plenty we can do to help right in our backyards.

The presenter for this program will be Athena Rayne Anderson who holds PhD in Ecology with a focus on native pollinators. Athena is also a Certified Pollinator Steward through the Pollinator Partnership and works with Bee City USA Asheville to promote the value of native pollinator plants.

A poignant and hilarious tour of the last frontier, the ultimate forbidden zone, The Vagina Monologues is a celebration of the feminine experience in all its complexity and mystery. Based on countless interviews conducted with real-life women, the production features stories of body image, consensual and nonconsensual sexual experiences, genital mutilation, direct and indirect encounters with reproduction, sex work, and several other topics through the eyes of women of various ages, races, sexualities, and other differences. A recurring theme throughout the piece is the vagina as a tool of female empowerment and the ultimate embodiment of individuality.

AN ALL-FEMALE TRIBUTE TO THE MUSIC OF THE GRATEFUL DEAD, WITH RAINY EYES

Brown Eyed Women is an ensemble of powerful female players from popular bands around the country, celebrating the music of the Grateful Dead with a unique spin.

Members hail from Massachusetts, New Jersey, Florida, New York, and Pennsylvania. Their high-caliber musicianship and shared love of the Dead drew them together. This  band is decidedly different in a field brimming with tribute acts. BEW brings authentic jams and a soulful new approach to the familiar Grateful Dead catalog.

Multi-faceted singer/songwriter A.J. Croce is hitting the road again in celebration of his father Jim Croce’s work and performing works from the legendary albums Life and Times, I Got A Name, and You Don’t Mess Around With Jim. The Croce Plays Croce 50^th Anniversary show – which features a legendary band (drummer Gary Mallaber, bassist David Barard, guitar/violin James Pennebaker) and a moving presentation accompanying Jim’s songs – was inspired by A.J.’s connection to the fans, the players, and his father’s timeless music.

This 50^th anniversary tour builds upon A.J.’s previous critically-praised performances where he shared intimate aspects of his father’s career, showcased his own musical style, and provided insights into Jim’s enduring musical canon. While Jim’s work still resonates on radio, streaming, movies, and shows, it is A.J.’s showmanship that enlivens the legacy of the music by inviting “the sold-out crowds into his father’s worldview and work mindset, culminating in the playing of Jim Croce tunes . . . making for an intimate experience riddled with wryness and humor.”

Two of Jim Croce’s finest albums Life and Times and I Got A Name were both released in 1973 and featured hits like “Bad, Bad Leroy Brown,” which peaked at #1 on Billboard’s Hot 100, as well as “I’ll Have to Say I Love You In A Song” and “Workin’ At The Car Wash Blues.” A.J. is focused on keeping the shows featuring these albums fresh and spontaneous by letting the musicians “have a level of improvisation that makes it a lot of fun.”

Fans and critics who attended last year’s shows are thrilled that A.J. is readying another affectionate interpretation of his father’s enduring legacy. The shows have renewed interest in Jim Croce and garnered praise for A.J: “I think they come as a Jim Croce fan but also leave as fans of mine. That’s something that has also made this whole experience really amazing.”
