DRAWING
The drawing will take place on Tuesday, November 15, 2022 at 3:00pm EDT. All mail, phone, and internet orders must be received by 11:59pm EDT on Monday, November 14, 2022.

The cost to purchase a single entry (“Ticket”) for the Raffle is $125 (U.S. Funds only) and is not tax deductible.
DETAILS
- By entering this raffle, entrants accept and agree to be bound by all the rules, limitations and restrictions set forth here and that their names and/or likenesses may be disclosed to and used by the news media and may otherwise be used by BMC for publicity purposes.
- The winner may choose a new 2022 Volvo, Subaru, or Hyundai prize vehicle from Hunter Automotive Group of Fletcher, NC with an MSRP up to $50,000.
- Vehicle choice will be subject to the current available inventory of the dealer. BMC reserves the right to substitute a Volvo, Subaru, or Hyundai model of equal value.
- The winner is responsible for all taxes, delivery costs, dealer fees, and any options he or she may choose above the vehicle’s manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) greater than $50,000.
- The gross winnings of the raffle will be reported to the federal and state tax authorities at the MSRP and the winner is responsible for income tax withholding prior to taking title to the prize.
- Individuals may purchase as many tickets as they wish; however, only 1,500 tickets will be sold.
- Participants must be 18 years old or older.
- BMC employees, faculty, and students 18 or older are eligible to participate.

WINNINGS
Once the winner has selected a prize vehicle, the Dealer will notify BMC of the award vehicle’s MSRP. BMC will calculate the required federal income taxes due. The raffle winner is responsible for remitting the funds to BMC for the federal income tax. Brevard Music Center is required by law to report the base MSRP of the vehicle the winner chooses as gaming income to federal and state authorities and to withhold and deposit federal income taxes equal to 25% of the MSRP less the wager (raffle ticket). The winner’s payment of the federal taxes to BMC will be deposited with the US Federal Treasury and the winner will receive credit for the taxes remitted. In order for the dealer to release the winner’s vehicle, the winner will need to provide the following to BMC:
- A completed form W-9.
- Payment to BMC of the appropriate amount of federal tax withholding in cash or certified check.
Once both of these are received, BMC will authorize the dealer to release the vehicle. The winner will receive a Form W-2G by January 31, 2023 to use in preparing their 2022 income tax return.
Ethno is JM International’s program for folk, world and traditional music. Founded in 1990, it is aimed at young musicians (up to the age of 30) with a mission to revive and keep alive global cultural heritage.

Night in the Country Music Festivals returns to the Carolina foothills August 25-27, 2022. This Pure Country experience brings some of country music’s hottest artists to the world-renowned Tryon Resort in Mill Spring, North Carolina.
Night in the Country Carolinas features three nights of country music with performances by Darius Rucker, Jon Pardi, Dierks Bentley, Jimmie Allen, Jameson Rogers, Ashley McBryde, and much more! During the day, the festival has a wide range of one-of-a-kind events and attractions including Bands, Brews & Que, the Craft Beer Experience, Grapeland, the Beer Relay, Tournament of Champions, and more. The festival also features live music during the day and an outdoor nightlife experience after the concerts.
The festival takes place on festival grounds unlike any other. Tryon Resort is a 1,600-acre facility featuring 13 rings, onsite luxury cabins and an inn, RV pads with full hook-ups, and wide-open grounds and arenas that have the potential to host the largest music festivals and events in the world. The grounds also boast several on-site restaurants, the Silo Bar, a general store, other shops, and a carousel.

Sip and stroll through the Arboretum’s gardens in the glow of the golden hour, all while listening to live music from a variety of local and regional artists! ArborEvenings runs Thursdays and most Fridays through September 30, 2022 from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m.
There is no additional cost to attend ArborEvenings beyond our standard parking fee. As always, Arboretum Society members and their accompanying guests can enter for FREE (guests must be in member vehicles to receive free entry). Proceeds from ArborEvenings help support the The North Carolina Arboretum Society and further advance the Arboretum’s mission.

Beer, Wine, and soft drinks will be for sale onsite at the Green Gardener’s Shed from 5:30 to 8:15 p.m. each night of the event. Outside alcohol is strictly prohibited, but guests are welcome to bring in water or a favorite non-alcoholic beverage.

Although the Bent Creek Bistro will not be open during the event, they will be offering their delicious dining options at ArborEvenings via pre-order! Simply place your online order — including alcoholic beverages — up until 11 a.m. on the date you plan to attend, then pick up your order at the Baker Information Desk between 5:30 and 6:30 p.m. (In the event of rain cancellation, pre-orders will be fully refunded.)

Led by frontman, songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Chris Higdon, The Mango Furs are a psychedelic band for the modern world, swirling the vintage influences of 1960s garage rock, surf music, and other trippy sounds into contemporary records like 2021’s Passages. This is textured, transportive music, as warm and woozy as the sunbaked Gulf Coast shoreline that ran beside Higdon’s hometown.
Raised in coastal Florida, Chris first fell in love with rock & roll while sitting behind the dashboard of his father’s truck. “My dad would listen to Allman Brothers or Jimi Hendrix and play drums on the steering wheel,” he remembers. Before long, Chris was playing rock songs of his own, earning write-ups in the local paper while still a teenager. Along the way, he also spent some time living with his grandmother, an eccentric painter whose unchecked creativity inspired her grandson. “She dressed crazily and wasn’t afraid to do her own thing,” says Chris, who named Mango Furs after a brightly-colored item from his grandmother’s closet.
Passages arrives on the heels of Mango Furs’ 2019 debut, Inner Migrations. Higdon wrote more than 40 songs for the project, eventually choosing a collection of 10 tracks that mixed neo-psychedelia, shoegaze, chillwave, and rock & roll into the same track list. The result is an album grounded not only in spacey arrangements, but sharp songwriting, too. It’s a record that casts a mood while delivering a message, with Higdon writing about the various passages in his own life.
“I’d gone through some big life changes, having lost my grandmother and becoming a father,” he says of the creative process. “Time doesn’t stop, though. It just keeps moving, and it’s up to you to fulfill your dreams and chase down your goals. No one’s going to do it for us. Passages is about moving through those transitions in your life.”
Atmospheric and anthemic, Passages brims with synthesizers, electric guitar fuzz, snippets of field recordings, echoes of reverb, and plenty of melodic spark. There’s a roomy reach to songs like “Be the Wheel Not the Road” and “Heart Ghosts,” which Chris credits to the longtime influence of Pink Floyd. “I watched Live From Pompeii years ago, back when the world was still coming out of the grunge era,” he remembers. “At the time, the radio was playing a lot of in-your-face music, but Pink Floyd was different. Those guys laid back and only spoke up with their instruments when it was needed. It taught me a lot about learning to shut up, listen, and let other things happen.”
Years later, Chris Higdon is still listening. Passages is the latest chapter in a story that’s still unfolding, capturing a prolific songwriter reaching his peak as a producer, bandleader, guitarist, and musical auteur. It’s headphone music at its most compelling — evocative, ethereal, and immersive, designed to pull the listener into the album’s lush soundscape — performed by a band whose songs have been heard on MTV shows, Netflix programs, and concerts alongside headliners like Liz Cooper & the Stampede.
“Music should be about sincerity and intention,” he says. “It shouldn’t be about trying to ‘make it.’ To me, ‘making it’ is just having the ability to make music. I’ve learned that, and maybe that’s why Passages has a sunnier color to it than what I did before. It’s uplifting. It’s feel-good music.”

Throughout his 30+ year career, Dan Tyminski has left his mark in every corner of modern music. Tyminski’s voice famously accompanies George Clooney’s performance of the Stanley Brother’s classic song, “I’m A Man of Constant Sorrow,” in the film, Oh Brother, Where Art Thou and his vocal collaboration with Swedish DJ Avicii on the song “Hey, Brother” was a global smash, having been streamed over 1 billion times to date.
Dan has also contributed guitar and/or harmony to projects by Martina McBride, Reba McEntire, Brad Paisley, Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson, Kenny Chesney, LeAnn Rimes, Aaron Lewis and Rob Thomas, to name a few. In addition to his highly successful solo career, Dan Tyminski has played guitar and mandolin for Alison Krauss and Union Station since 1994. His unmatched instrumental skills and burnished, soulful tenor voice have been key components of the band.
Dan has been honored with 14 Grammy Awards, was named Male Vocalist of the Year by the International Bluegrass Music Association 4x, and was recognized as 2004’s Male Vocalist of the Year by the Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music in America.

Circles Around The Sun’s unconventional origin is defined by a serendipitous twist of fate. Acclaimed guitarist Neal Casal was asked to record a handful of Grateful Dead-influenced instrumentals to be played during the set breaks at The Dead’s “Fare Thee Well” concerts in 2015. To accomplish the task, Casal would recruit keyboardist Adam MacDougall, bassist Dan Horne and drummer Mark Levy to join him in the studio. That was supposed to be the extent of it. Fast forward to the recordings being played over the stadium’s PA at the shows. The response from the audience was uniformly resounding, quite literally blowing up the internet with questions as to where this magical music came from and ultimately pleas for more.
To appease the demand, Circles Around The Sun released those recordings as their debut album, ‘Interludes for the Dead.’ It was followed by several acclaimed live performances. Again, the response was so positive, and the band was having so much fun making music together, that they decided to keep going. Indeed, the chemistry of the four musicians was instant and undeniable.
Circles Around the Sun—often shortened to CATS—returned to the studio in 2018 to record the double album, ‘Let It Wander,’ offering seven focused performances filled with imaginative musical turns and electrifying improvisation. Rolling Stone wrote: “‘Let It Wander’ is a set of even deeper spells that thread suggestions of Little Feat–style grooves and Bernie Worrell’s percolating synthesizers in Parliament-Funkadelic through the German mid-Seventies space travel of Tangerine Dream and the offbeat churn of the Dead’s “Estimated Prophet.'”
More tours followed, including sold out headline shows across the country, support dates playing theaters with Greensky Bluegrass and high profile festival appearances. The band recorded an EP with drummer Joe Russo, as well as, a follow up full-length album with producer Jim Scott. With their future appearing brighter than ever, fate once again intervened. This time it wouldn’t be as kind. Co-founder/guitarist Neal Casal unexpectedly passed away in August 2019, leaving the band’s future in question. After much soul-searching and per wishes Casal left behind for the band to continue in his absence, Circles Around the Sun has continued to record and tour, releasing their self-titled third LP in 2020 that had be tracked prior to Casal’s passing. In 2022, the band added John Lee Shannon as a permanent member on guitar who, fittingly, was among Casal’s favorite young guitarists.
The band’s most recent single, “Language,” a collaboration with harpist Mikaela Davis was released in March 2022 and offers a sneak peak at new music being recorded for an album release in Fall 2022. On the touring front, Circles Around the Sun recently completed a cross-country U.S. tour with many more club and festival dates planned for the remainder of the year, including appearances at Sacred Rose Festival, Whale Rock Music Festival and Santa Cruz Mountain Sol Fest. , the surviving members decided to carry on to keep Neal’s spirit alive and honor what he’d created.
With a slate of tour dates scheduled for the foreseeable future and plans being made for their next album release, fans can count on many more revolutions around the bright, burning star as fate continues to play its hand for Circles Around The Sun.
From the analog tape-hiss of their eponymous EP to the well-placed studio sheen of the singles released earlier this year, Color Green’s Noah Kohll and Corey Madden have revealed themselves to be adaptable at every turn, as they cut their own route through the hazy byways of cosmic Americana. First taking shape in NYC as a songwriting and recording project in 2018, Color Green blossomed into a full-on collective venture during the initial years of the pandemic. During that time, Kohll and Madden decamped to Los Angeles, where they were received by the open arms of kindred spirits and collaborators.
Arriving July 22 via AD and Org Music, Color Green’s full-length debut is music of absolute forward motion, meant to be played from open car windows no matter the speed you’re traveling. The songs nod reverently to their forebears—from the Allmans-tinged sunshine of “Ill Fitting Suit” to the JJ Cale taillight lament of “Ruby”—before tossing up a wave and taking the whole show a little further down the road.

The Squealers is a 4 piece Blues Punk band that draws inspiriation from rockabilly, country, bluegrass. Known for their erratic live performances, (namely the spontaneous antics of leader Jesse Harman and his dirty harmonica) The Squealers have been leaving audiences scratching their heads and excited to come back for another show. The tight yet fun timey rhythm of Taylor Olin (drums) and Johnny Caucasian (bass) juxtaposed against the lightning fast ferocity of Matt Daniels on the telecaster is a forced to be reckoned with

We are thrilled to announce that local fan favorite Flashback Band will be performing at our 13th annual Give To The Music Benefit concert at the Orange Peel on Saturday, August 27. Flashback is an Asheville NC based Arena Rock Band playing classics from Boston, Bon Jovi, Van Halen, Def Leppard and many more. We can’t wait to welcome Flashback to the Orange Peel, helping to raise money for Give To The Music and promoting music education for local students.
Music Academy Asheville’s Rock Academy bands will warm up the crowd with performers ranging in age from elementary school kids to adults who are discovering their inner rock star. Influenced by the rich musical heritage of Appalachia, Luke and Madison Morris’ sound is rooted in the folk traditions they grew up in. Nonetheless, they use folk tradition as a jumping-off point into new sonic landscapes and imaginative songwriting. After crossing paths at bluegrass festival, the duo began playing together regularly in 2018. Highland Reverie just released their self-titled debut album back in January. Their lead singles, “Real World” and “Father Time” were featured on Spotify’s editorial playlists, “Indie Bluegrass” and “Grassroots.”
The first part of their name “Highland” simply refers to the area they call home. Old-time and bluegrass music from the Appalachian highlands is the foundation for everything they create. The second part of their name “Reverie” is a noun that describes a daydream or a trance. It is used in a musical context to describe music that provokes a dream-like, meditative state. Their lyrics and smooth harmonies take the front seat while soft arrangements help to tell the story of each song. Together, Luke and Madison Morris bring a modern take on tradition that continues to evolve while remaining rooted in the music of Appalachia.
Built around rich vocal harmony, vivid emotional writing and a smooth fusion of Country, rock and pop, Lady A have long been a model of mainstream success. The multi-Platinum band continues that same momentum with their latest What a Song Can Do album (BMLG Records) featuring their current climbing single, “Like A Lady.” Additionally, their 11 No. 1s, 18 million albums sold, 34 million tracks, five billion digital streams and a global touring footprint prove the point. Known for their 9X PLATINUM hit “Need You Now,” which is the highest certified song by a Country group, they have earned CMA Vocal Group of the Year trophies three years in a row and countless other honors, including five GRAMMY Awards, Billboard Music Awards, People’s Choice Awards, Teen Choice Awards, a Tony Award nod and were recently inducted as members of the Grand Ole Opry.
In late 1966, at age 24, came the opportunity of a lifetime to join the Muddy Waters Band and help shape the electric blues sound that inspired the rock and roll movement of the late 60’s and early 70’s. Regular guests of the band included Eric Clapton, Paul Butterfield, Mike Bloomfield, and Elvin Bishop. The Muddy Waters Band (as a unit) shared the stage with the likes of Howlin’ Wolf, Elmore James, Jimmy Reed, Junior Wells, Big Joe Williams, and Big Mama Thornton just to name a few. During this time, Mac played on John Lee Hooker’s “live “album, Live at the Café Au Go-Go, as well as Otis Spann’s classic recording “The Blues is Where It’s At”.
Here is how he met Muddy Waters…
In 1965, having already established himself back home as a bass player, playing with J Floyd & the Shamrocks including James Brown on keyboard , Mac Arnold decided to take a trip to Chicago to check out the Blues scene. He was obviously impressed because 3 months later 24 year old Mac packed up and moved to the Windy City to expand his music career.
There was a club called the Green Bunny Club on 77 & Halstead St. where Mac first met his sax man A. C. Reed who at the time needed a bass player. Mac was the right man for the job. He played with A. C. for only a short time when he got a chance to play with Muddy Waters. He was asked to come out to Big John’s Grill on the North side to sit in with the band. Muddy asked him where he was from, he replied Greenville, South Carolina. Muddy said, “son, if you’re from the South, then you can play,” and so he did for over a year. His first gig with Muddy was the Mother Blues Club. The band’s line up was Luther Johnson on guitar, Sammy Lawhorn on guitar, Frances Clay on drums, Otis Spann on piano, Mac Arnold on bass, and Muddy on guitar and vocals. The band would play most of the show and Muddy would play the end of the set. On occasions he would play every other set. This gave the guys a chance to show their stuff. Mac had an edge because he’d been working with James Brown in the past. A lot of people had yet to of heard of James Brown, so when Mac would play that funky stuff, it got a lot of people’s attention. Mac is a left handed bass player, and if you listen to some of his early recordings, you will hear he was way ahead of his time.
The band would tour from the East to West Coast and all points in between. Cruisin’ in a 1965 Fleetwood Cadillac, all 7 band members and the driver (Bo) at the wheel. Bo could drive almost non-stop from St. Louis to San Francisco with no sleep. One time they were passing through Mississippi, they stopped in to see some of Muddy’s relatives and wound up doing a show. Mac stayed at Muddy’s cousin’s house, and when L. A. he would stay with George Smith and his family of 6 kids. While touring the West Coast, Mac fell in love with the California weather. When he returned to Chicago he told his wife “we’re moving.”
Mac talked to Muddy and told him he would give him time to find another bass player. Muddy wished him luck and said “he would have him back any time,” and that was it. Mac is one of the last surviving members of the Muddy Water’s era, and so Mac Arnold & Plate Full O’ Blues begins.
Mac now resides in Pelzer, SC, where at the age of ten he got his first taste of the blues when he learned to play his brother Leroy’s home-made guitar. Going back to his roots, Mac is serving up a mess of Blues with his own band, “Mac Arnold & Plate Full O’ Blues”. The band consists of Austin Brashier on lead guitar and vocals, Max Hightower on keyboards, harmonica, rhythm guitar, bass and vocals, Dizzy Dizzy on drums, and Mac Arnold on Slide and Rhythm Gas Can Guitars, vocals and bass. Mac is also an organic farmer.
The Blues Music Awards have taken notice of Mac Arnold over the past few years. Mac was on hand for the 31st annual Blues Music Awards held May 6, 2010 in Memphis. Mac accepted the award for Best Historical Album for his participation on the 1966 recording Muddy Waters – Authorized Bootleg: Live at the Fillmore Auditorium (Geffen Records) The recording was released in 2009.
Roots and Dore are an American blues, soul and roots duo from the music-rich mountains of Asheville, North Carolina. They are currently among the busiest performing acts in the southeastern US. Having played 150-200 shows annually for the past ten years. They have made a name for themselves in the blues world by opening for national acts, playing festivals nationally and internationally and their original music is being played on dozens of radio stations, locally and around the world. Roots and Dore just released their new album The Blues and Beyond to a wave of awesome reviews. (Featuring special guest appearances by “Steady Rolling” Bob Margolin of Muddy Waters Band, along with Doc Watson’s partner and multiple Grammy winner David Holt and Tony Black, the bass player for Marshall Tucker Band.) Always a good time had by everyone when Roots and Dore are doing their thing for folks at shows.
Anne Steele is an OUT multi award-winning singer/ songwriter and recording artist from NYC. She is so thrilled to make her debut in Asheville at Isis Music Hall with her show, Anne Steele: The Remix. For the last year Anne has been revisiting all the songs that really created the artist that she is today. She will take you back to classics you know and love but with a 2022 twist. From the 70’s to the 80’s and 90’s and onto today’s music, she will reimagine in ways you never expected plus she will drop in some of her most loved original songs. Anne released her last CD called Made Out Of Stars in 2019, and toured extensively to sold out audiences from LA to Chicago to Nashville to London. The drawing will take place on Tuesday, November 15, 2022 at 3:00pm EDT. All mail, phone, and internet orders must be received by 11:59pm EDT on Monday, November 14, 2022.
TICKETS
The cost to purchase a single entry (“Ticket”) for the Raffle is $125 (U.S. Funds only) and is not tax deductible.
DETAILS
- By entering this raffle, entrants accept and agree to be bound by all the rules, limitations and restrictions set forth here and that their names and/or likenesses may be disclosed to and used by the news media and may otherwise be used by BMC for publicity purposes.
- The winner may choose a new 2022 Volvo, Subaru, or Hyundai prize vehicle from Hunter Automotive Group of Fletcher, NC with an MSRP up to $50,000.
- Vehicle choice will be subject to the current available inventory of the dealer. BMC reserves the right to substitute a Volvo, Subaru, or Hyundai model of equal value.
- The winner is responsible for all taxes, delivery costs, dealer fees, and any options he or she may choose above the vehicle’s manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) greater than $50,000.
- The gross winnings of the raffle will be reported to the federal and state tax authorities at the MSRP and the winner is responsible for income tax withholding prior to taking title to the prize.
- Individuals may purchase as many tickets as they wish; however, only 1,500 tickets will be sold.
- Participants must be 18 years old or older.
- BMC employees, faculty, and students 18 or older are eligible to participate.
- Winnings are not redeemable for cash.
- If a minimum of 600 tickets is not sold, all ticket holders will receive a full refund and the raffle will not occur.
- BMC does not make or provide any representation, guarantee or warranty, expressed or implied, in connection with the car and accepts no liability or responsibility regarding the construction or condition of the car.
WINNINGS
Once the winner has selected a prize vehicle, the Dealer will notify BMC of the award vehicle’s MSRP. BMC will calculate the required federal income taxes due. The raffle winner is responsible for remitting the funds to BMC for the federal income tax. Brevard Music Center is required by law to report the base MSRP of the vehicle the winner chooses as gaming income to federal and state authorities and to withhold and deposit federal income taxes equal to 25% of the MSRP less the wager (raffle ticket). The winner’s payment of the federal taxes to BMC will be deposited with the US Federal Treasury and the winner will receive credit for the taxes remitted. In order for the dealer to release the winner’s vehicle, the winner will need to provide the following to BMC:
- A completed form W-9.
- Payment to BMC of the appropriate amount of federal tax withholding in cash or certified check.
Once both of these are received, BMC will authorize the dealer to release the vehicle. The winner will receive a Form W-2G by January 31, 2023 to use in preparing their 2022 income tax return.
