Experience the drama, amazement and instant gratification of Raku in this one-day firing workshop. Bring up to 5 bisque fired pieces (vertically oriented vase and cylinder forms up to 12 inches in height preferred). We will glaze the pieces using a variety of crackle, iridescent luster and matte glazes and fire the work outdoors in our Raku kiln. Pieces will be removed from the red-hot kiln and quickly transferred into ash cans lined with flammable materials. Participants will go home the same day with dramatically transformed, finished work!

Help kick off the 31st anniversary of Lights Before Christmas by making tracks to Riverbanks’ third annual 5k race. The wild run will wind through the park’s scenic back roads, cross the Saluda River and pass some of the most popular exhibits in the Zoo! Proceeds support ongoing conservation and education efforts at Riverbanks.Entry fees include a commemorative Riverbanks Run T-Shirt, admission into the Zoo on race day, plus complimentary snacks at the finish line. Zoo admission is required for non-race participants, and T-shirts are not guaranteed for late registration.

November 15 and 16: Packet Pick-Up from 9:00am–6:00pm inside the Guest Relations at main Zoo entrance.

SOAR’s Eagle Run 5K

All proceeds from the event will go to SOAR’s scholarship fund and directly to the youth and young adults that we serve. Each year SOAR provides meaningful outdoor experiences to students through scholarship assistance. This would not be possible without the support of our community, alumni, and families.

Handstand Workshop

What has you hesitating around your handstand practice? Fear of falling? This workshop will provide the foundational tools to build a strong, safe handstand practice.

Farrell will lead this workshop and will cover:
1. Kicking up in efficient, stable ways.
2. Using the wall for strengthening.
3. Wrist and shoulder care.
4. Identifying common obstacles and how to remedy them.
5. How to build handstands into your life.
6. Various alignment tips and tricks and tidbits.

This is an ALL-LEVELS workshop. The only requirement is the dream to do a handstand. Farrell will meet you where you are on your handstand journey and help you to take the next steps forward. Though handstands are super serious business, the workshop will be fun and playful. Don’t let your dreams be dreams, by this time next year you WILL be handstanding.

Got handstand fundamentals and ready to soar to new heights? This workshop will help you level up your handstand. If you’ve been using the wall as a crutch or you feel like your practice has become stagnant, this is the workshop for you.

1. Confronting the fear of falling; safely bailing out of a handstand.
2. Different kick-ups.
3. Different handstand variations- straddle, scorpion, stag legs, diamond legs.
4. Neutralizing banana-back.
5. Building towards the press-up.
