RETROWAVE – DARK ELECTRONIC – SYNTH POP – POST PUNK
JUNE 16 @ Static Age-Records
Kangarot – Hardware synth act that incorporates elements of EBM, industrial and Krautrock.

Jaguardini – Jaguardini treats music like a science project, combining the sounds of old video games and synthesizers to create a live blend of energetic synthpop and nostalgic chip beats. Christo manipulates a gameboy, a vocoder, an array of synths, a megaphone, and an electric guitar with a CRT TV set on his head and 90s workout videos in the background. Desperate vocals overlay glitchy elements like those of Com Truise, paired with the 80s revival-isms of synthpop artists like Wayphaser and Teeel.

Ships In The Night – Ships in the Night drifts between the worlds of night and day, past and future, reality and illusion. Songwriter Alethea Leventhal’s ethereal vocals float effortlessly over electronic waves of synth and drum machines.

Grovewood Village is housed in the historic weaving and woodworking complex of Biltmore Industries, a noteworthy enterprise in the history of American Craft and textiles, founded by Edith Vanderbilt and two inspired teachers, Eleanor Vance and Charlotte Yale. At the height of its success in the late 1920s, Biltmore Industries had a total of 40 looms in steady operation, producing bolts of some of the finest handwoven wool fabric in the country. Orders were shipped as far as China and Uruguay, and customers included the likes of Thomas Edison, Henry Ford, Helen Keller, and several U.S. presidents and first ladies.

Join Dr. Marc McClure as he presents his documentary firm (60 minutes) on the life of Dr. Dennis Branch who practiced medicine in Newport, Tennessee from 1914-1964. Over the course of his life, Dr. Brach became a beloved leader of the community, both for his quality of care as a physician and for his public contributions to the town. Dr. Branch’s story is unique because the vast majority of his patients were white during the time when segregation laws prevailed, forbidding inter-racial intimacy. Dr. Branch came to national attention when James and Wilma (Dykeman) Stokely included him in their 1957 award winning book Neither White Nor Black. Dr. McClure’s film will include interviews with Dr. Branch’s former patients, town folks and graduates of the historically black Tanner School for whom Dr. Branch was a trailblazer. As a Rosenwald School, the Tanner School provided an education for rural African American children from the 1920s until schools were later integrated. The film will be introduced by Jim Stokely of Asheville (son of Wilma Dykeman and James Stokely) who grew up in Newport and is currently President of The Wilma Dykeman Legacy.
