Scott Kendrick of Asheville started playing the guitar during his sophomore year of high school. After five years of progressing on the instrument, he discovered fingerstyle guitar and was amazed at the technique which fused percussion, rhythm, melody, vocal melody, and bass all into one bodied performance.

INTENTIONS: Prepare a five-minute story about best-laid plans. To do lists, apologies, New Years resolutions. Making something happen through sheer will. What I meant was….

It is brilliant and quietly addictive” – The London Guardian
“New York’s hottest and hippest literary ticket” – The Wall Street Journal
The Moth is an acclaimed not-for-profit organization dedicated to the art and craft of storytelling. It is a celebration of both the raconteur, who breathes fire into true tales of ordinary life, and the storytelling novice, who has lived through something extraordinary and yearns to share it. At the center of each performance is, of course, the story – and The Moth’s directors work with each storyteller to find, shape and present it.
Since its launch in 1997, The Moth has presented thousands of stories, told live and without notes, to standing-room-only crowds worldwide.
Moth shows are renowned for the great range of human experience they showcase. Each show starts with a theme, and the storytellers explore it, often in unexpected ways. Since each story is true and every voice authentic, the shows dance between documentary and theater, creating a unique, intimate, and often enlightening experience for the audience.
Moth stories dissolve socio-economic barriers, expose vulnerabilities, and quietly suggest ways to overcome challenges and see with new eyes.

Caspa
UK bass pioneer, DJ, label owner, ex-pro basketball player, straight talking dubstep champion, dopest ghost: Caspa can be introduced in many ways. But the best is through his beats. His decade-deep discography has dented dances since dubstep’s earliest chapters. Over three studio albums, four mix compilations, 30+ singles and many high-profile remixes including Depeche Mode, The Prodigy, Deadmau5, Kaskade, Swedish House Mafia, Grand Puba, Ludacris, Miike Snow and TC, his precision heavyweight productions have been released on eminent labels such as Digital Soundboy and Tempa as well as his own influential imprints DubPolice and Subsoldiers. Both iconic dubstep brands that have played a major role in the worldwide dubstep phenomenon and boasted the earliest work of some of the scene’s most respected creative artists like L-Wiz, Subscape, The Others, Emalkay and Caspa’s partner in grime Rusko.
DJ-wise he’s just as renowned: West London to Cape Town via USA, Australia, India and beyond, Caspa demonstrates how uncompromised club dynamics can work from some of the world’s most iconic festival stages (Glastonbury, Sonar, EDC Vegas, Dour Festival) to some of the world’s most respected club institutions such as Fabric whose mix CD series featured his and Rusko’s era-defining, generation-inspiring ‘Fabriclive 37’ album.
Fast forward: Caspa continues to innovate at the heart of UK bass culture. From 2014’s lean, molten back-to-basics ‘500’ concept to 2017’s sub-stacked ‘Vibrations’ series by way of his and Rusko’s rule-wrecking slew of genre-burning EPs and well into the future, Caspa continues to push the music he lives his life for in many ways. But the best has yet to come.

When reflecting on the current state of the environment, it seems that we have entered into times of seismic sorrows. Carbon emissions, water pollution, fracking, and changing climate patterns all point to a troubling reality with serious consequences for human and non-human populations. Through weavings, installations, sculpture, and print, artists Rena Detrixhe and Tali Weinberg (Tulsa, OK) explore the complex relationship between humans and the planet, offering insights, expressing grief, and creating space for resilience and change.
In Time of Seismic Sorrows is curated by Marilyn Zapf and organized by the Center for Craft. The Center for Craft is supported in part by the N.C. Arts Council, a division of the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources.
Winter can be the most beautiful time of the year at Chimney Rock. Leafless trees make for expansive views of Lake Lure and the Hickory Nut Gorge. The sky is clear; you’re likely to find a quiet spot to sit and enjoy the peacefulness. You may even see a critter scamper by you in the forest. Capture that special moment or scene on your camera, enter it in our Winter Wonders Photo Contest and tell us about it. We’ll use the winning entries on our website and Facebook album, and you’ll win some fun prizes. Photos must be taken within the Chimney Rock section of the Park.
Cost: No additional cost to enter.

We are honored to share our passion for our Beloved Black Bears in our exhibit at the “FW Gallery” in Woolworth Walk – downtown Asheville. We are grateful to have been chosen to be their Featured Artists. We want to also thank the many lovely people who work at Woolworth Walk and have supported and assisted us with the exhibit.
The FW Gallery exhibit will end Tuesday, January 29th at 6pm. Our permanent artist booth #229 downstairs “Beloved Black Bear” has over 50 black bear canvases 11×14 at $75 each. We hope you will stop by to visit.
We are happy to say that many black bear canvases have been sold and are now adorning many homes. Our wish is for all of us to share our compassion for the black bear with our friends, family, and neighbors and create connections with the bears giving them a voice.
Love, April Johnson & Jeff Miller
