Old Kentucky Home -The Thomas Wolfe Memorial
American Novelist Thomas Wolfe (1900-1938)
Considered by many to be one of the giants of 20th-century American literature, Thomas Wolfe immortalized his childhood home in his epic autobiographical novel, Look Homeward, Angel. Wolfe’s colorful portrayal of his family, his hometown of “Altamont” Asheville, North Carolina, and “Dixieland” the Old Kentucky Home boardinghouse, earned the Victorian period house a place as one of American literature’s most famous landmarks.
House tours are offered daily at half past each hour. Last tour leaves at 4:30 pm.
Group tours by reservation.

Student (ages 7-17) – $2.00
Adult Group (10+) – $2.50 each

Hours of Operation
Join us at Eliada Home’s campus for a small group guided walking Farm Tour. Tours last approximately 1 hour. Participants will learn about outdoor and greenhouse growing practices, aquaponics, hydroponics, market gardening, corn maze production, and learn about our Animal Therapy program.
We will be meeting at the PARC building and walking to the different greenhouses, garden site, and a visit with our animals. Reservations required, tickets are $10 each visitor (to be collected at the time of the tour).
We recommend bringing the following: comfortable shoes for walking on pavement and grass, hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen. This tour is not handicap accessible and will require participants to climb stairs and walk on uneven ground.
We will begin out tour promptly at the starting time, so please arrive 5-10 min early to allow for parking and check-in. If you are running late or cannot make your tour, please email [email protected] or call #828-348-2287.
All proceeds from ticket sales from your farm tour go directly back to helping the Campus Farm Program grow more food for the children of Eliada!

Take a 90-plus minute walk along Historic Main Street to learn about Hendersonville’s history and architecture and hear fascinating stories of the past. Be charmed and informed by Hendersonville’s history, architecture, and colorful stories. Learn how the town got its name, who donated the land, bordellos, the oldest block of buildings, amazing fires, trolley lines … and more. All walks begin at 10am and begin at Hendersonville City Hall, front steps (corner of 5th Ave. East and King Street).
Post-Game Fireworks Show Presented By Raumedic
Enjoy a festive parade of local organizations, classic cars, veterans and more at the annual 4th of July Parade in Hendersonville! The parade route is on Main Street, from Caswell Street to 6th Avenue.
The Ingles Independence Day Celebration is back in Downtown Asheville on Monday, July 4. As always, the festival is free and open to the public. The celebration is produced by the Asheville Downtown Association in partnership with the City of Asheville.
The event will feature:Ultimate Air Dogs, local food and beverage vendors, family activities, live music, and of course, FIREWORKS!
The Ultimate Air Dogs will jump between 12pm and 6pm in the 20ft pool installed on North Pack Square. Local food and beverage vendors will open at 5pm. Live music also kicks off at 5pm with folk/Americana singer/songwriter Hannah Kaminer, country rock musician Ricky Gunter at 6pm, and R&B/funk artist Lyric at 7:30pm.
Lyric will also sing our national anthem just before the fireworks show at 9:30pm.
The Hendersonville Visitor Center and Henderson County Parks and Recreation are teaming up to offer a family-friendly 4th of July Celebration. The evening’s activities will include inflatables, kids games and activities, food trucks, and 2 stages featuring live music, with the evening being capped-off with the annual fireworks display.
- 5pm – The Lonesome Road Band performs at the Historic Courthouse
- 7pm – BSE Rox performs at the Visitor Center
- 7pm – Supper Break performs at the Historic Courthouse
- 7pm – Main Street will be closed to car traffic from 2nd Avenue south to Caswell Street. There will be food trucks, games, face painting, inflatables, a craft corner, giveaways and more.
- Between 9:15 & 9:30pm – A festive Independence Day fireworks display will take place between 9:15 & 9:30 pm. You are encouraged to find a spot to see the display by 9pm. The launch site is off of South Grove Street, which will ensure prime viewing of the display from South Main Street and the Music on Main concert area as well as many other vantage points on the south side of town near the intersection of Hwy. 225 South and Hwy. 176. A large balloon will be launched the morning of the 4th to signify the visibility of the fireworks show, if you can see the “Big Balloon,” you can see the fireworks from your location.

At either concert location, you are encouraged to bring a chair and sit back, relax and enjoy the music, followed by the fireworks display. Alcoholic beverages, backpacks and coolers are prohibited. Admission is free.

Distance: 2 miles Difficulty: Moderate. Several inclines are present on the trail.
Cost: Free for Members. $10 for non-members.
Join the Southern Appalachian Highlands Conservancy on our beautiful Community Farm to hike along our Discovery Trail and see all the terrific projects we have in the works.
Our Community Farm is a 140-acre educational and working farm just outside Asheville. The farm is a continually evolving home for conservation projects and agricultural production. Highlighted by our stream restoration project, shortleaf pine reforestation project, farm incubator program, and education center, there is always something new to see.
Participants will hike The Discovery Trail in a 2-mile loop allowing us to view all of the amazing farm projects before returning to our education center. Participants are welcome to bring a packed lunch to enjoy while overlooking the entire farm and surrounding mountains.

Explore Grandfather Mountain after hours with your own personal guides. You’ll discover some of the park’s nighttime wonders, while stopping at its most significant sites. Watch a stunning Grandfather sunset, and experience the mountain as never before!
This event costs $50 for general admission and $42 for members of Grandfather Mountain’s Bridge Club. Registration opens here June 15.
