About this Event
How can we support our mental health, deal with our insecurities and find joy, even in tough times?
Chude Jideonwo will explore the power of human connection and how we can help each other through difficult times by sharing our experiences and feelings. Chude will explain how we can heal and build resilience, by creating safe spaces for authentic conversations about our mental and emotional health. When we learn to embrace our insecurities and imperfections, we can live more joyfully.
Chude is on an ambitious mission to transform Sub-Saharan Africa into a (mental, emotional, spiritual) safe, warm space. He is founder of Joy Inc. which supports co-working spaces and walk-in centres for young people dealing with mental health challenges. He is also the host of the hugely popular #WithChude media series across TV, Radio and Podcast, telling stories that strengthen the mind, heart and spirit.
About The Speaker
Chude Jideonwo is an inspiring Nigerian lawyer, journalist and media entrepreneur. He is the founder of Joy, Inc., a human flourishing company which aims to help people become happier, and build safe, warm spaces across business, government and culture. Chude has extensive experience in media and previously led African media group, RED | For Africa, working on national elections and social movements in Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya and Liberia. He is a co-founder of The Future Project, focused on inspiring leadership, building entrepreneurs, and using the media as a tool for social change. He is a Forbes 30 under 30 honouree, an Archbishop Desmond Tutu Fellow, and a World Fellow at Yale University. He is the author of two books, including ‘Are We The Turning Point Generation?’, and host of #WithChude – a network of media products across TV, Radio, Podcast, Newsletter and Blog telling stories that enable and strengthen the mind, the heart, and the spirit.

Joining a CSA (or Community Supported Agriculture) program connects you directly with local farms in your community. ASAP (Appalachian Sustainable Agriculture Project) offers several events and resources to learn more about CSAs, in which members buy a “share” of a farm’s harvest upfront and receive a weekly box of fresh produce or other farm goods. ASAP will host a virtual CSA Fair on March 10 from 4 to 6 p.m. on Zoom. In addition, Full Share, a free guide listing 60 CSA farms in the Appalachian Grown region, is available now at farmers markets and community centers throughout the region as well as digitally at asapconnections.org/find-local-food/csa.
The virtual CSA Fair will feature farms providing CSAs in Buncombe County and the surrounding region. In addition to traditional produce farms, the fair will include farms with meat and flower CSA programs. The virtual fair will have a similar format as live fairs in the past—a relaxed setting where attendees can talk to farmers about their CSA programs, products, growing practices, and more. Attendees can sign up for CSAs during the fair or follow up with farmers later. The fair is free to attend, but participants do need to register for the event to get a Zoom link.
For farmers, the CSA Fair is a chance to build relationships, even if attendees decide not to purchase a share. “[The customers we meet at the CSA Fair] tend to really want to know the farmer and the food, meaning they are a bit more adventurous when it comes to trying new things,” says K.P. Whaley of Tiny Bridge Farm. “They are interested in knowing how and what we are growing, and really want us to be successful as a farm operation. We may get some customers from the fair and that’s great. But we also start building relationships with future customers.”

Do you have a streambank on your property that is eroding from excessive rain or high water events? If so, this virtual live stake workshop is for you! For only $20 you will receive a mixed bundle of 20 Silky Dogwood and Silky Willow live stakes, and an easy-to-follow instructional video on how to install and care for your new plants.
Tickets are limited and registration closes on February 19, so hurry and sign up now!
Live stakes can be picked up from the RiverLink office at 170 Lyman Street in Asheville on Friday, February 26 from 2:30-5:30 PM. After registration you will receive an email from the RiverLink Watershed Resources Coordinator with your pick up time. We ask that all participants please wear a mask when picking up their live stakes.

Craving homegrown veggies, herbs, or flowers, but not much space, poor growing conditions, contaminated soils, or past failures with container gardening? Learn how to succeed with EarthBoxes®. Although Extension Master Gardener volunteers don’t endorse commercial products, these boxes are the result of research to develop a growing system that manages water and nutrients for optimal plant growth.
We will cover planning, planting, watering and other maintenance, harvesting, overwintering, and long-term strategies for using these types of growing systems.

Jerry Donoghue is founder of the Asheville Compassionate Communication Center and the Inner Presence Coaching Institute in Asheville, NC. Jerry is a Master Spiritual Coach who specializes in training couples to be more compassionate with themselves and each other through his courses and private coaching. He also trains helping professionals in gentle, non-invasive, non-prescriptive approaches to support that rely on the clients’/students’ innate intelligence. He draws on his many years of teaching people compassion communication, self-compassion, and nondual awareness work to create this dynamic Inner Presence Inquiry Work. Put your critter knowledge to the test with our virtual trivia series! Join two educators from the Friends of the WNC Nature Center for the month of March as we host four virtual trivia nights.
Every Thursday night, we’ll be giving away a prize to the participant with the highest score. We’ll also offer a grand prize for the participant with the highest score over all four nights, so be sure to study hard and join us for the whole month of March!
If you register for all four trivia nights, you’ll also be entered in a raffle to win a prize package valued at $200! Raffle winner will be announced on March 4.
After registering, you’ll receive an email from us with more information. The night of each virtual event, you’ll be emailed a Zoom link to participate. You must register by 6pm the evening of the event in order to participate.
- March 4: “Scales and Slime” – Everything cold blooded! Test your knowledge as we explore snakes, turtles, frogs, and more.
- March 11: “Who’s Got Hair?” – Mammals do! Let’s see how much you really know about furry friends!
- March 18: “Feathered Friends” – It’s a good thing to have a bird brain during this trivia night! Hopefully you’ll fly through the questions!
- March 25: “All About Appalachia” – Here, anything goes! We’ll be asking trivia questions ranging from plant life to the history of our beloved mountains. We’ll also be announcing the grand prize winner of the series at the end of this round!
