This classic, annual, Lowcountry bicycle ride, formerly known as “The After the Bridge Run Ride”, winds through beautiful Francis Marion National Forest. The event raises money for the support of bicycle advocacy in the Lowcountry and around the state! The ride features beautiful scenery, quiet backcountry roads, multiple well stocked rest stops, post ride meal and entertainment.

The JCC’s Virtual Falafel 5K allows you to choose your own 5K course and start time on race day, and still participate in a competitive race complete with prizes for winners!
Details: Participants in the Asheville JCC’s Virtual 5K will run a 5-K course of their choosing on Sunday, April 26. They will log their time via a log button on the JCC website (button will be emailed to participants), and submit photographic proof of running. Winners will be announced on April 27, when all times have been received. Prizes will be mailed to winners following the race. Proceeds from the Asheville JCC Virtual Falafel 5K support Shalom Children’s Center’s tuition scholarship  fund.

Paddle Camping on the French Broad Paddle Trail

Have you ever wanted to do a paddle overnighter? Do you want to get a taste of a river expedition? Learn the secrets behind using the FB Paddle Trail.

Here’s a sneak peak:
Secret #1: Your canoe or kayak is doing most of the heavy lifting. So, bring whatever you want! You’re not backpacking, so if you want your dog to have a costume box and it fits in your boat, bring it.

Secret #2: You can eat SOOOO well when you paddle camp. Bring your camp stove or a dutch oven to create your favorite meal with a sweet view.

Headwaters Outfitters, the French Broad Riverkeeper, and MountainTrue are hosting another session on how to use the FB Paddle Trail. Whether you’re looking to do one night or 14, we’ll tell you how. Get all your questions answered – from what gear to bring, to how to reserve campsites, and where to stock up on beer. There will even be a raffle to win a free camping weekend.

Earth Day Kids Festival encourages collaboration between environmental organizations in order to inspire younger generations to be stewards of our planet. This event is hosted in conjunction with WNC for the Planet, a collective of local environmental organizations that provides access to service, educational, and recreational opportunities in recognition of Earth Month in April. We hope you can join us to inspire younger generations to make positive change in our local and global environment!

Smoky Mountain Relay

A scenic, wild, team adventure in the mountains of Western North Carolina, the Smoky Mountain Relay is an adventure that is not to be missed. This course will challenge you and your friends with tough legs and reward you with stories to last a lifetime. Choose from the original 200-mile course or the shorter 135-mile course with your team of 8 or 12 participants.

The 200-mile course begins at the Pink Beds Trail Loop picnic area just outside of Brevard, NC In the Pisgah National Forest. Teams of 12 or “ultra” teams of 6 make their way through 36 legs and finish at Nantahala Outdoor Center.

The 135-mile course begins at the Jackson County Recreation Complex in Cullowhee, NC. Teams of 8 or “ultra” teams of 4 make their way through 24 legs and also finish at Nantahala Outdoor Center.

Each relay team member will run between 3 and 6 legs of varying lengths and difficulty and will cover an average total distance of 18-20 miles of the race.

2nd Annual Broad River Race

We welcome folks to race at their own pace and enjoy 5 miles on the most beautiful stretch of the Broad River. Remember, the hare may not outrun the tortoise!

This race only has two rules:
– You MUST wear a pfd.
– No motors allowed

Otherwise, you can paddle solo, tandem, or with as many people as will fit in your boat. We will meet at the Lake Houser put-in at 1:45 sharp to drop off boats. From there, we will take vehicles to the Broad River Greenway and get a shuttle back to the put in. (If you don’t have a Greenway sticker, you may have a $5 parking fee). Betsy the Turtle drops and the race begins at 3:00pm.  And we’re off to paddle or just float at your own pace. First person, or first team, across the finish line wins a MountainTrue gift bag and takes possession of the Turtle until next year’s race.

Nantahala Racing Club and Nantahala Outdoor Center are proud to host the 2020 ICF Wildwater World Championships, bringing over 150 athletes from 30 countries around the world to the Southeastern US. We are thrilled to welcome these athletes, their families, and their teams to our home and are excited to facilitate this competition of top-level athletes in April 2020!

As the gateway to the Great Smoky Mountains, Nantahala Gorge, and Appalachian Trail, Bryson City is the ideal location for outdoor recreation and suited for all levels of adventure!

Nantahala Racing Club and Nantahala Outdoor Center are proud to host the 2020 ICF Wildwater World Championships, bringing over 150 athletes from 30 countries around the world to the Southeastern US. We are thrilled to welcome these athletes, their families, and their teams to our home and are excited to facilitate this competition of top-level athletes in April 2020!

As the gateway to the Great Smoky Mountains, Nantahala Gorge, and Appalachian Trail, Bryson City is the ideal location for outdoor recreation and suited for all levels of adventure!
