Music by the Lake is a free, monthly summer music concert series hosted by the lake at Blue Ridge Community College that is open to all people. This month’s performance features Nick Chandler and Delivered, who plays Traditional Bluegrass Music. In case of inclement weather, the performance will be moved indoors to the Technology Education Development Center.

The John Henrys have been entertaining loyal, local audiences as the house band at 5 Walnut Winebar in downtown Asheville every Tuesday night for ten years . The band features Jon Corbin and Hank Bones on guitars, Taylor Pierson on piano, Kevin Kehrberg on bass, Lyndsay Pruett on violin and Russ Wilson on Vocals. Specializing in a mixture of Gypsy Jazz, Standards (Great American Songbook), Swing, Country and originals the group makes fun, happy music on the fly. This performance is not to be missed!
Come enjoy an evening of live music, food and drinks at the Isis patio and lawn. Reservations are highly recommended.
Shaken Nature is the sick, strange story of four young highwaymen who found themselves stranded in the Appalachian wilderness of Asheville, North Carolina. Rather than left for dead, they decided to trade in their buckskins and Winchesters for fender guitars and vintage pearl drums. Fans of The Velvet Underground or Brian Jonestown Massacre are bound to love with this crunchy, psychedelic, big-hearted Rock n’ roll band. The band is quoted in saying their genre is somewhere between “Outlaw-Psych” and “Post-Punk Gospel.”
Shaken Nature is led by guitar playing duo Miles Constable and Benito Rose Plaza. Plaza hails from the west and was involved with some great bands in Austin, TX (i.e. Annabelle Chairlegs). Constable gained notoriety in Tallahassee, Florida where he played in heavy garage rock group “The Royal Heavies” and swampy fuzzed out band “Black Cloud”. The two met shortly after moving to Asheville in 2016 and formed the preliminary bones of the group which would become “Shaken Nature.” Tyson Phillips would come to join as drummer in 2018 and Sean Miller on bass a few months after. Their first show with the current lineup came in early 2019 at the legendary “Grey Eagle” in Asheville, opening for world renowned psychedelic ensemble “Night Beats.”

“David Wilcox is a father, a husband, a citizen and a songwriter. First inspired to play guitar after hearing a fellow college student playing in a stairwell. Wilcox is now 18 records into a career marked by personal revelation and wildly loyal fans. His lyrical insight is matched by a smooth baritone voice, virtuosic guitar chops, and creative open tunings, giving him a range and tenderness rare in folk music.”

BMC alum John Schindler performs his own transcription of Siegfried’s Funeral March from Wagner’s Götterdämmerung. Originally composed for full orchestra, this performance transforms the colorful orchestration into a stunning soliloquy for solo piano. John is currently a student at Juilliard and recorded this on August 15, 2020, in Hartland, WI.

BMC faculty members Dilshad Posnock (flute), Jason Posnock (violin), and Jenny Snyder Kozoroz (viola) perform a socially-distanced trio in the new Parker Concert Hall on the Brevard Music Center campus. This is the first movement (Entrata, Allegro) of Beethoven’s Serenade for Flute, Violin and Viola.

Labor Day is almost here which means that Fall is just around the corner. As we close out this Summer of Change we are grateful to enter into a new season of LEAF and debut our new website! To many, a new website is not that exciting. But in a world where digital is the present and the future, our website is our entry point to the world, a world we hope to change for the better. This new website has been a year long process and we are still working on the kinks but the journey has been full of new discoveries, life long friendship development and new skills. As always, our goal is to expand connections, inspiration and resources.
LEAF’s mission comes to life as an agent for positive social impact in many ways and places.
The “ways” include: cultural exchanges, residencies, programs, workshops, mentoring, Easel Rider Mobile Art Lab, Learning Journeys, Signature Events and immersive experiences. “Places” include: LEAF Global Arts Center in downtown Asheville, in communities across the world, in schools, in community centers, at event locations such as Lake Eden in Black Mountain, and downtown Asheville, and now LEAF is also Virtual.

Thanks to a generous donation from our friends at fellow local business, Image 420 Screenprinting, we are proud to introduce a special, super limited edition t-shirt and sticker merch bundle ready for purchase today!
These awesome shirts, which come in unisex sizes S through XXL, plus the matching sticker, are available for a $50 bundle price which will include one of each. The full price of your purchase will benefit our campaign to keep the Orange Peel alive and well until it is safe for us to all be together enjoying shows again in person.
There are only 100 of these bundles available, and the designer, Brent Baldwin, did an amazing job with the art, so you are going to want to show off your proud support of keeping the music alive when you wear your shirt or display your new sticker. Every penny will bring us closer to hosting your favorite artist on our stage in the coming months when we can gather safely, and we will be SO thankful to all those who choose to demonstrate their support this way. We can’t wait to see you around town in your gear that helped save the music.
Thank you all for your love and support. Don’t forget, another amazing way to help us that costs nothing is to contact our elected representatives and let them know that you want congress to act and sign aid legislation now, including support for the SOS Act. This bipartisan act will help independent music businesses recover from our devastating losses of nearly 100% of revenue this year. Click here to send a letter to your rep. Even if you don’t have financial means to support us right now, sending a letter is a MAJOR contribution that we appreciate just as much.
We wouldn’t have become the club we are without all of you, and with your help, we will be around for decades to come.

NOC’s Guest Appreciation Festival has been a staple in Western North Carolina since 1982. Bringing together families, friends and the community to celebrate another season of outdoor adventure. In light of the challenges presented by COVID-19, we have made the decision to change up GAF for the 2020 season — with a focus on a virtual appreciation event throughout the month of September and no in-person festival the weekend of September 25th – 27th. The recreational releases on the Cascades and Upper Nantahala are still scheduled as normal.
In 2020 the festival format might change — but the spirit is stronger than ever. Let’s celebrate another summer of (socially distanced) adventure with a month full of deals on new and used gear, apparel from the big brands, and last minute savings on fall adventures in the mountains.
It has been a challenging year, but one that has reminded us that outdoor adventure plays a critical role in a healthy lifestyle. As we “space out” what is normally an action-packed weekend in the gorge, we plan to bring offers throughout the month of September that will keep you outfitted for the next adventure, big or small.
Want to be on the inside track? Sign up below to be added to our #GAF2020 list. We’ll be sharing additional updates soon and subscribers will be the first to know when the big deals hit.

EVERY Tuesday at Asheville Music Hall! Tuesday Night Funk Jam has been a huge part of Asheville’s vibrant music scene since 2008 and is #Asheville’s hottest weekly concert. Tuesday Night Funk Jam is programmed and orchestrated by an evolved Legendary House Band with trombonist Derrick Lee Johnson at the helm. At 10PM sharp, the Legendary House Band kicks off the night
