- For auditions for The Little Prince, directed by Jason Williams, the submission deadline is midnight Friday, April 8, 2022. Callbacks will be held in person at the amphitheatre on Saturday, April 23. The director will contact each pre-selected actor with specific times. The Little Prince will be performed Fridays through Sundays, June 10 – Saturday, July 9 at 7:30 pm.
- For auditions for Much Ado About Nothing, directed by Dwight Chiles, the submission deadline is 11:59pm Sunday, April 24, 2022. Callbacks will be held in person at the amphitheatre on Friday and Saturday, April 29 & 30 from 4:30 to 8:30 pm. The director will contact each pre-selected actor with specific times. Much Ado About Nothing will be performed Fridays through Sundays, July 15 – Saturday, August 13 at 7:30 pm.
- For auditions for The Three Musketeers, directed by Rodney Smith, the submission deadline is midnight Sunday, May 1, 2022. Callbacks will be held in person at the amphitheater on Saturday, May 7, with a rain date of Saturday, May 14. The director will contact each pre-selected actor with specific times. The Three Musketeers will be performed Fridays through Sundays, Aug. 19 – Saturday, Sept. 17 at 7:30 pm.
Submission deadlines for Hamlet will be announced later, through our newsletter and social media.Specific instructions for audition submissions:
- On the website above, click on the link below “Actor Season Audition Form”
- Sign in to your Google account (required as most information will be shared in Google documents)
- Fill out and submit the form – if you have a headshot and/or resume (not required), please upload them as part of your application.
- Record a short (90 second) video – you can do so on your phone. For As You Like It, a Shakespearean monologue is preferred. IMPORTANT: please name your video with your name, not the default title; ex. “Smith, John Video”
- On the website, click on the link below “Actor Season Video Upload Link” and upload your video.
- Directors will review each application and video, and will contact prospective actors for callbacks.
- Important: This season, the Montford Park Players will require that all persons involved with any show must be fully vaccinated, or present a request for exemption, stating the reasons. The Executive Director, in consultation with the director, will make the final decision on the selection or non-selection of any person who is not fully vaccinated.
- Anyone who is interested in a technical role only (stage management, lights, sound, etc.) should sent an email to [email protected] and include your background, if any. We welcome all volunteers!

Based on Louisa May Alcott’s life, Little Women follows the adventures of sisters, Jo, Meg, Beth and Amy March. Jo is trying to sell her stories for publication, but the publishers are not interested – her friend, Professor Bhaer, tells her that she has to do better and write more from herself. Begrudgingly taking this advice, Jo weaves the story of herself and her sisters and their experience growing up in Civil War America.
Little Women embodies the complete theatrical experience, guaranteeing a night filled with laughter, tears and a lifting of the spirit. Little Women features plenty of great opportunities for female actors and singers ranging in age. The powerful score soars with the sounds of personal discovery, heartache and hope – the sounds of a young America finding its voice.
A determined young fact checker is about to stir up trouble.
His demanding editor has given him a big assignment: apply his skill to a groundbreaking piece by an unorthodox author. Together, they take on the high-stakes world of publishing in this new comedy of conflict. The ultimate showdown between fact and fiction is about to begin—with undeniably delicious consequences.

Every person is assigned a role. When Jonas turns 12, he is chosen for special training from The Giver — to receive and keep the memories of the community. Now Jonas will learn the truth about life — and the hypocrisy of his utopian world. Through this astonishing and moving adaptation of the Newbery Award-winning book by Lois Lowry, discover what it means to grow up, to grow wise, and to take control of your own destiny.

Funny, poignant, and heartwarming. Escape to the warm Mediterranean sunshine and wisteria blossoms of a 1920s Italian villa with this Tony award-nominated play. Set against the backdrop of dreary post-WWI London, four women – strangers to one another – decide to take a holiday. Leaving their husbands behind, they venture into the unknown. When they arrive, personalities hilariously clash and friendships are forged as the women bloom again, but what will happen when the men unexpectedly arrive? A story of renewal and love, “Enchanted April” is a shining gem of a play!
Featuring Rosalind Ashford, Darlene Cah, Marianne Carruth, Lori Corda, Laura Depta, Ben Dawkins, Andy Millard, and Joel Perkin. Catherine Gillet directs the talented cast.
The Los Angeles Times calls it “As good as they come: a lush, thoroughly refreshing theatrical holiday. Escape has seldom seemed so sweet. A magical triumph.”
Admission is free in celebration of the return of live theater. Cash donations will be accepted at the door to support the artists. The production is made possible by the North Carolina Arts Council and Polk County Community Foundation, in conjunction with Tryon Fine Arts Center.

In the sequel to Nunsense and Nuncrackers, Dan Goggin’s endearing, eccentric nuns sing zesty tunes with a country-and-western twang. Sister Amnesia (a.k.a. Sister Mary Paul), having discovered her true identity and desire to be a country singer, finally records her debut country album, “I Could Have Gone to Nashville,” and goes on tour to promote it. The show, filled with hysterical one-liners and infectious comic songs, is sinfully funny.
Sister Amnesia’s Country Western Nunsense Jamboree’s production team includes HT’s Artistic Director Victoria Lamberth as director, the musical direction of Laura Williams, choreography by Matilyn Hull and Dru Dykes as stage manager. WNC actors Karen Covington-Yow, Leisa Foronda, Sarah Henby, Hogan McLamb and Allison Starling complete the cast.

If you have ever attended a show at Flat Rock Playhouse, you know parking is an adventure! Our parking lots operate on a meticulously planned system, which is kept running by our wonderful parkers! The Vagabonds have been on the Rock since 1952 and years of workshopping have led to the system you see today. Volunteers help keep the Playhouse running smoothly, and parking is no exception!
Parking shows is a great hands-on opportunity to help the Playhouse and interact with patrons, fellow community members, and Playhouse staff.
Parking for shows requires a minimum of 8 people per show.
Parkers choose one of five areas of our parking area to direct traffic.
Parkers are in position to begin parking 1 hour and 15 minutes before a show.
Depending on their position in the parking lots, parkers will greet patrons, ensure they are in the right place, and direct patrons to the appropriate lot and parking spot.
Volunteers will be trained in all parking positions before parking their first shift.

Discover the fun and fundamentals of musical theatre technique by integrating acting, singing, and simple choreography in the development of a Broadway repertoire. Students will learn proper vocal technique, storytelling through song, musical theatre-style choreography, and how to work within an ensemble. Apply your skills in an informal showcase for friends and family. With new material every semester, this class can (and should) be taken multiple times.

Learn the ins and outs of sketch comedy in this eight-week course for adults led by Flat Rock Playhouse’s favorite comedic actor, Scott Treadway! Dive into the history of two-person comedy, learn about the straight man vs character actor and how to break down comedic beats and jokes in a script. Hone your skills in delivery, timing, and physicality as you pair up and perform a comedic scene, coached and directed by Scott. Laugh, learn and level up your comedy skills in this low-pressure, highly-humorous class.

This class is designed for curious young performers eager to explore the “FUN”-damentals of acting. Through high-energy theatre games, improvisation, pantomime, storytelling, & ensemble-based activities, students will hone their theatre skills, build meaningful connections with other young artists, and discover their creative potential! In the final class, showcase what you learned in an informal performance for friends and family. With new material every semester, this class can (and should) be taken multiple times.

This fun and high-energy class combines the three fundamentals of musical theatre, acting, singing, and dance, in an accessible and exciting way! With a focus on singing technique, musicality, movement, and storytelling, students will learn new skills and make friends as they develop songs from Broadway musicals. No prior experience is necessary. With new material every semester, this class can (and should) be taken multiple times!

Build your acting toolbox in this class exploring technique and performance in a playful and safe environment. With an emphasis on improvisation, text analysis, and character development, students will breathe life into dynamic scenes and monologues. This class balances ensemble-based work with individual coaching as teen actors prepare an informal performance to share with friends and family at the end of the semester. No experience required.

Get moving in this fun, high-energy dance class focusing on Broadway-style choreography. Lay the foundation of jazz technique through warm ups and across the floor, and practice picking up steps and style in theatre dance combinations inspired by a variety of musicals. Join us to get a weekly workout, learn how to fill your movement with character, and step into your next dance audition feeling confident. Masks are required.

PREREQUISITE: Improv I or extensive improv experience (*must be pre-approved by instructor)
Improv II reinforces all of the skills learned in Improv 1 by applying those skills to advanced scene work, character creation structures, and at times intentionally conflict-filled scenarios. Final showcase to be held on Friday, May 27, 2022. Tuition will be $180.00 – payment plans and scholarships will both be available.

Jesus Christ Superstar is an iconic musical phenomenon with a world-wide fan base. In celebration of its 50th Anniversary, a new mesmerizing production comes to North America. Originally staged by London’s Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre and helmed by the acclaimed director Timothy Sheader (Crazy for You, Into the Woods) and award-winning choreographer Drew McOnie (King Kong, Strictly Ballroom), this production won the 2017 Olivier Award for Best Musical Revival garnering unprecedented reviews and accolades. Appealing to both theater audiences and concert music fans, this production pays tribute to the historic 1971 Billboard Album of the Year while creating a modern, theatrical world that is uniquely fresh and inspiring.

Does your little kid have a big imagination and lots of energy? Then this class exploring the fundamentals of theatre is just for them! During this 8-week class, students will explore favorite storybook characters and bring them to life through acting, creative movement, and music! This high-energy class will celebrate your young artist’s creativity, develop skills in improvisation, public speaking, and expression, and release creative energy in a meaningful way. With new material every semester, this class can (and should) be taken multiple times!

Story Parlor presents Creativity Lab: a six-week exploration of the creative process, common blocks and obstacles, and ways to kickstart and sustain creative momentum.
Focused on the process and the act of doing, opposed to product or outcome, Creativity Lab explores ways to overcome fear, embrace curiosity, and channel our muse in all creative endeavors.
The six-week workshop is experiential, hands-on, and tactile. The Lab will utilize exercises to help cultivate imagination, innovation, and creativity. Each class will focus on a different part of the creativity process all while building a tool kit for dealing with obstacles in our way, creating positive habits for growth, and investigating the ways our personal narratives intersect with our work.
