CHURCH BASEMENT LADIES, a musical comedy about the women who work in the church kitchen, cooking meals for church events. The musical is inspired by the book Growing Up Lutheran by Janet Letnes Martin and Suzann Nelson. Characters range from an elderly matriarch to a young bride-to-be as they handle Christmas Dinner, a close-to-home funeral, a Hawaiian fundraiser, and hot July wedding. HSO Presents the Hot Club of Cowtown
Mar 14 all-day
Bo Thomas Auditorium

Since its beginnings in the late 1990s, The Hot Club of Cowtown has continued to rise as its reputation for jaw-dropping virtuosity and unforgettable live shows has become the band’s global brand. Lauded for its down-home melodies and exuberant improvisation, the Hot Club has always woven a combination of seemingly disparate styles together in its own magical effect, setting up camp at that crossroads where country meets jazz and chases the blues away.

NC Brewers and Music Festival CANCELLED
Mar 14 all-day
Historic Rural Hill

UPDATED INFO:

To make the transition from this year to the 2021 event as seamless and exciting as possible, we have already worked with our artists, our brewers, and our vendors to make sure that we are able to carry over this year’s lineup and infrastructure to next year’s festival date. In addition, we are also in conversation with Eventbrite regarding the best options we can offer you when it comes to making a choice about how your ticket investment plays out.

Because this decision affects you as much as it does us, we will offer full refunds of all ticket purchases to any of you who would prefer that option. We understand the inconvenience that this change might cause you, and we ask that you offer us your patience while we organize that process. As another option, we would also like to offer you the opportunity to retain your ticket purchase and to roll it over into next year’s attendance. Any ticket that has already been purchased for 2020 will be honored at our 2021 festival in lieu of a refund. That is a choice we are allowing you to make, and we will be delighted to have you back as our guests then!

Please check back with us often as we continue to plan for the 2021 (“unofficial 10th Anniversary”) North Carolina Brewers and Music Festival. Again, thank you for your patience and understanding, but mostly for your continued support at the festival. We couldn’t keep putting on this event without you, and we continue to be thankful year after year.

Along with a rich Americana lineup, North Carolina Brewers and Music Festival also shines a spotlight on local brewers and their contribution to North Carolina’s vibrant culinary scene. Over 50 breweries offering a selection of craft beers will be featured on-site throughout the weekend. Tasting tickets, which include access to beer samples plus a commemorative sampling glass, are available for purchase for $50 ($39 for early birds).

North Carolina Brewers and Music Festival began as a fundraising effort to preserve the historic site of Rural Hill. The site, which boasts extensive hiking trails, is a beloved landmark in the Central NC region and is home to many educational field trips and events. Since its inception, the North Carolina Brewers and Music Festival has continued to support the awareness of Rural Hill and attract diverse crowds from all over the country.

Friday music-only passes with sets from Acoustic Syndicate and Fireside Collective are $15. Saturday music-only passes with sets from the Steep Canyon Rangers and Hayes Carll are $22 for early birds. For attendees who would like to sample an unlimited assortment of celebrated North Carolina brews on Saturday, Tasting Tickets (which include daily entrance to the festival for music happenings) are available at the Early Bird price of $39. Camping options are available for attendees who would like to make the most of their weekend. Two-Day weekend tent camping, premium tent camping, and RV/Camper camping with hook-ups are available for $45, $65, and $85 respectively. North Carolina Brewers and Music Festival is a family-friendly event. Children 4 and under are free. A Children’s Ticket is available for kids 5 – 15 for $8.

The Cathedral of All Souls

Together with Music” expresses through song various aspects of a universal human experience; the joys and lessons of childhood, the struggle to persevere through strife, and the hope for a better world tomorrow. Presented by two artists with roots in western North Carolina, this program will feature America and British song, as well as standards from the Broadway stage and the great American songbook.

The Cathedral of All Souls, located in Biltmore Village, has a long history of nourishing and supporting the arts. During Lent, we invite the public to attend a series public concerts, featuring local master-class musicians and singers. Each Sunday, we will host a concert from 4 to 6 p.m. in our Sanctuary. We suggest a donation of $10, the proceeds of which will be given directly to the musicians.

An Evening with George Winston
Mar 15 @ 7:00 pm
Diana Wortham Theatre

George Winston is undeniably a household name. He’s inspired fans and musicians alike with his singular solo acoustic piano songs for more than 40 years while selling 15 million albums. A tireless road warrior playing nearly 100 concerts annually, live performance for Winston is akin to breathing. Winston’s music is evocative, offering us all a chance to take a step back from our perpetually busy lives and let our minds adventurously wander. Restless Wind is a portrayal of Winston’s place in a chaotic world – his compositions extend solace with an idiosyncratic grace.

George Winston’s classic albums, Autumn and December, are perennial favorites, along with Winter into Spring, Summer, 2017’s Spring Carousel – A Cancer Research Benefit, as well as two volumes of the compositions of Vince Guaraldi, two volumes of benefit albums for the Gulf Coast disasters, and six other solo piano albums. He released his 15th solo piano album, Restless Wind, via Dancing Cat Records/RCA Records in 2019. The album is available now at GeorgeWinston.com.

Moogseum Closed Through March 31st
Mar 16 all-day
Moogseum

The Bob Moog Foundation announced today that it will temporarily close the Moogseum, located in downtown Asheville, NC, until March 31, 2020. The closure comes in response to a call for Americans to practice social distancing to help “flatten the curve” of an anticipated widespread Coronavirus outbreak.

“Given the critical importance of early self-isolation in stemming the spread of COVID-19, we believe it is our moral imperative to protect our staff, as well as our visitors and our community by temporarily closing the Moogseum to the public,” stated Executive Director Michelle Moog-Koussa. “During this time, the work of the Bob Moog Foundation will continue, with our staff working remotely to advance our projects. While the considerations around the spread of the virus remain fluid, we will continue to reassess when we will  reopen the Moogseum.”

The decision to close the Moogseum comes with considerable financial ramifications. During this time the Foundation encourages supporting its work through donations or a variety of other means, explained here: http://bit.ly/BMFWaysToSupport.

The Moogseum, which opened on May 23, 2019, is an interactive facility which brings the legacy of synthesizer pioneer Bob Moog alive for people of all ages to experience. It is the hallmark project of the Bob Moog Foundation, representing the convergence of its work in education and archive preservation.

ROOSTER

Rooster crows a wake-up call through the hills and hollers, with Annie Myers and Erin Kinard blending their voices into organic harmonies that are full, lush and straight off the front porch.

In any configuration, their orchestrations can be clean and uncluttered, but with a raw, gritty edge. They seem right at home in a grunge coffee house, wine bar, brew pub, honky-tonk or at a backyard barbecue.

The duo’s musical influences include: Shovels & Rope, Gillian Welch, and John Prine.

Rooster released an eponymous collection of five original songs in 2017.

Their first full-length album, “Bloodroot,” will be Released in 2020

Bardic Alchemy Mama Danger: Orange Peel Concerts to be Postponed through March 31
Mar 16 @ 9:00 pm
The Orange Peel-PULP

Here at the Orange Peel, though we are not yet facing mandatory event closure through City or State authorities, we, in conjunction with our artists and partners, have decided the most prudent and responsible course of action to safeguard the health of our community is to postpone all Orange Peel shows scheduled between now and March 31st, effective immediately.

We are working very hard with our artists to reschedule each of these shows to a safer time later this year. We are announcing rescheduled dates as we are able to get them confirmed, and will inform ticket buyers for each event when a new date for their intended concert has been solidified. Tickets will remain on sale while we work on determining a rescheduled date. Fans should hold on to their tickets, as they will be valid for the rescheduled performance date. If you are unable to attend a postponed show, please contact us at [email protected] or via phone during box office hours (Wednesday through Friday 12pm to 5:30 at 828-398-1837).

In the event that we are unable to find a new date and a show is fully cancelled, all buyers will be notified and tickets will be automatically refunded at the point of purchase. Please allow at least a week for this to be reflected in your bank account.

While this has been a painful decision to make and we have great concerns for workers and fellow small businesses in our industry during this time of economic uncertainty, the health and safety of our patrons and staff is really what matters most. We hope that you all do what you can to protect yourselves and those who are most at risk, with good hand-washing and hygiene, and by following social distancing recommendations.

We will keep you updated about rescheduled dates, and further plans for the weeks ahead as we are able. Feel free to contact us with questions at [email protected]
