The market will operate for as long as necessary, possibly expanding to other locations and days of the week as opportunity and demand allows.

Market Rules

  • No customers or vendors exhibiting symptoms may enter the market.
  • Maintain 6 feet of social distance at all times.
  • One customer at a time for each vendor table.
  • Only handle product you are purchasing. Products will be pre-packaged or bunched.
  • Children, if they must attend with adult shoppers, must be closely supervised.

Anyone failing to comply with these conditions will be directed to leave the market.

Coronavirus has gained attention worldwide as an emerging infectious disease. This webinar is intended to share evidence-based information about COVID19 and to help agricultural producers identify strategies for responding on their farm.
Intended Audience
Agricultural producers, ranchers, farmers, farm workers, veterinarians, Extension personnel, rural health care providers, and others who work in agriculture.
Objectives
At the end of the webinar, participants will be able to:
  • be aware of common signs and symptoms of COVID-19
  • understand the transmission risk to yourself, employees, and potentially your animals
  • describe infection control principles and appropriate strategies for limiting disease transmission
  • locate resources and training for ag producers related to infection prevention

Join Fermenti for a hands-on demonstration and discussion designed to introduce you to the basic principles of vegetable fermentation for the home, hobby farmer/gardener and foodie alike! Problem solving techniques, creative approaches and planning your garden with intention to ferment will all be discussed. The two basic types of vegetable fermentation will be covered: self-brining (sauerkraut and kimchi) and brined vegetables (pickles).
 
The class will also include:
– make and take home ferments
– fermented beverage of choice
– tasting menu featuring fermenti ferments
 
We will cover everything from salt curing fruits, honey ferments, basic fermentation principles and creative recipe ideas to add flair to any culinary function. You will walk away with ferment recipe ideas, culinary applications of fermented foods and a secure understanding of how fermentation will cut your food waste, reduce food budget and increase your nutritional value.

The Botanical Gardens : Are You Bearwise?

Ashley Hobbs, Assistant Furbearer and Black Bear Biologist for the NC Wildlife Resources Commission will discuss the natural history of black bears in western North Carolina and how one can use that information to safely coexist with these North Carolina treasures. A question-and-answer session will follow the presentation. Among the topics covered will be : * The new BearWise initiative which provides ways to prevent conflicts as well as resources to resolve problems and which encourages community initiatives to keep bears wild. * The next phase of the Urban-Suburban Bear Study in Asheville.  For more information on how to coexist with bears, visit http://bearwise.org

 

Ashley Hobbs is the Assistant Black Bear and Furbearer Biologist for the NC Wildlife Resources Commission. She graduated from the University of Georgia in 2015 with A Bachelor’s in Forestry Resources with an emphasis in Wildlife Science. She has a background in human-wildlife conflict mitigation and has worked all over the southeastern US in addition to parts of southern Africa.

Participants must pre-register for classes: 828-252-5190.
