abilities by developing draft materials for each of the common components found in grant proposals. Participants can develop those materials for use in a grant application by their organization. Financial Series

Our Financial Series is made up of two distinct classes that, when taken in order, comprehensively cover the basic financial skills and tools that every entrepreneur needs to start and run a successful business.

Financial Tools, September 10 + 17 – Financial Tools will introduce you to the tools to understand the basics of business finance so you can make informed decisions on how to organize and manage your business finances. Intro to QuickBooks Online, September 24 + October 1 – this class provides an overview of QuickBooks and the different subscription levels, and will teach you how to navigate the dashboard and explore the reporting feature to generate reports that can be customized to your needs. When you complete this class, you’ll know the best ways to get around, enter day-to-day transactions, get the information you need out of QuickBooks, and powerful report tools that’ll help your business make good decisions. Individual Price: $25

Financial Series Pass: $60

Financial Tools (Virtual Class)

This 2-Day class is the first in our Financial Series

Financial Tools will introduce you to the basic financial management principles that all small business owners should know. Participants will walk away with the tools to understand the basics of business finance so they can make informed decisions on how to organize and manage their business finances.  Topics discussed are record keeping; bookkeeping; accounting; creating, understanding and using financial statements and reports.

Class will be held virtually via videoconferencing platform, and be held over two sessions in two weeks, for a total of 5 hours of training.

Financials are always one of the biggest hurdles for a business owner. TD Bank and Mountain BizWorks are teaming up to talk about financial literacy, various reports, opportunities to grow and navigating the lending landscape.

Financials are always one of the biggest hurdles for a business owner. What reports are important to look at? What do they mean? How can you know if your business is fiscally sound?

These questions and more will be addressed by John Verreault, Senior Vice President of TD Bank and Mountain BizWorks’ Director of Lending, Michael Lane. TD Bank will talk about financial literacy, various reports, and opportunities to grow. Michael Lane, Director of Lending at Mountain BizWorks will be joining in to discuss lending opportunities that are available for small businesses, how to position yourself to be competitive to receive a loan, and answer those burning questions you have around lending for small businesses.

The primary purposes of this fund are to:

  • Support and preserve cultural identity within Buncombe County;
  • Stimulate the creation of new, or expansion of existing, festivals and cultural events; and
  • Contribute to the financial viability and long-term sustainability of the area’s festivals and cultural events.

Explore Asheville CVB is offering grants for Festivals & Cultural Events ranging from $1,000 to $5,000, not to exceed 50% of the total event budget. Application deadline is Sept 29th at 5 pm.

Naturalist Niche: Early Bird Walk

Chimney Rock State Park

Start Flock to the Rock out with a bevy of birds!  This early bird walk was designed to start before the Park opens to ensure participants get the best chance to encounter a variety of birds. Taking place during fall migration also enhances the number of species expected to be in our area. This hike is considered moderate and is the prelude to our 13th Annual Flock to the Rock event which starts at 11am. Click here to see what birds you might see during your hike. Space is limited and advance registration is required for this hike.

 

Cost: Includes Park admission. Advance registration required.

The North Carolina Arboretum: Guided Trail Walk

The North Carolina Arboretum

Hit the trails and learn more about The North Carolina Arboretum’s botanically diverse forest with the return of guided trail walks in 2021! From April — October, this free hiking program is led by trained volunteer guides who take small groups of participants along woodland trails and through a variety of forest types. Depending on the season and each guide’s area of expertise, topics of discussion may include wildflowers, plant and tree identification, natural history and more.

Guided trail walks are limited to 10 people, including the guide, and are not recommended for guests under 16 years of age. Groups depart from the Baker Visitor Center Lobby on Tuesdays at 1 p.m. and Saturdays at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m..

Walks last 1.5 – 2.5 hours, are approximately one to two miles in length. As this program is held rain or shine, all participants should dress appropriately for the weather.

Register In Advance

Space is limited and advance registration is encouraged. Pre-registered participants must check in at the Baker Information Desk no later than 10 minutes before the scheduled program to keep their spot. Unclaimed spots will be offered to other guests.

Guests may sign up for trail walks in the following ways:

Walks are FREE; however, donations to The North Carolina Arboretum Society are appreciated. Regular parking fees apply. Arboretum Society Members always park free.

51st Annual Girl Scout Day
